Somewhere the great Harry Carney and Sir Duke are smiling! I was binge watching Ellington performances and surprised not to find a vintage Carney Sophisticated Lady, but this did the trick! In my book Carney is the trademark stamp of the Ellington Orchestra, besides The Duke himself of course. With apologies to Johnny Hodges, Cat Anderson, Ray Nance, Paul Gonzalves and all the many other great players over 50 years. You'll never mistake them when you hear them, and that is usually because of Carney's baritone, raw as old New Orleans and elegant as a Paris Cafe' all at the same time.
hello to you. I first heard this Wilbur, track on UK, BBC Radio, late 1950s ( two way family favourites) I was a teenager at that time. Anyway, enjoyed track so much I bought this album following week. Peace to all !!
The tone on the bari sax player is to die for, one of the most heart-wrenching solos I’ve heard. Enjoyed every minute
especially on a metal mouthpiece too? MAN
Ya I dunno about that
@@greyaltonmetal mouthpieces have great tone if you put as much time into it as a rubber

WOW!!
The true test of any band is how well they play a soft ballad. No hiding behind a wall of sound when performing a ballad!

The bari tone 👌😍
My high school performed at Essentially Ellington in 2007. It's nice to see it's still going on.

BRAVISSIMO!!! Such young talented kids playing some serious mature jazz!!! Loved it!!!!
You have captured the mood of the greatest orchestra including the voice of the great Harry Carney.
Fantastic recreation from the whole band. Wonderful.
Really wonderful. I often watch the video of Ellington with Harry Carney play this and he holds the sax note forever. Great playing by everyone.
Wonderful! I'm sure Harry Carney is smiling down.

Thanks for posting this. Wow, these kids really can play. The Sax player is Harry Carney reincarnated.
As a bari player myself, that’s about the best compliment you can give. I wholeheartedly agree! What a tremendous performance.
Wow, this is actually really good!!! Great bari performance and great band performance!!
Congratulation to all specially the bari sax player! From Brazil!

Very impressive. Even though a little loud sometime the lead alto is doing a good job too..
Bari Sax: Andrew Stine. Great job!
Wonderful bari sax playing by Andrew Stine! Which arrangement is this? By which arranger and publisher?
