Wynton's introductory comment "Julian Lee is going to explain to us" - couldn't be more accurate. His playing is some of the most lyrical/conversational I've heard.
Most lovely tribute to my sax hero Herschel. Nice dry tone. Like most people, old Wynton hasn't noticed Herschel too close. Herschel wailed, soared, gasped, moaned, roared, trilled, communicated, but he didn't growl, but at least Wynton chose him.
It was a joke he said “always growling and doin bad things” not exactly meaning he was growling but to emphasize the fact that he has 2 sides 1 sweet and 1 mean
playing this with my high school jazz band at a festival on saturday. i transcribed julians lick at 1:46 its so tasty. we just got first at our schools district jazz comp and we are shooting for first at state this year!
This one has a relaxing vibe to it, the high schooler version was more emotional and better for when you in the feelings while this one is something you’d listen to when doing homework or something like that
this sax speaks!!!! how does he can do that???!!!! belissimo the best perform I heard
you're right !

Why haven't I heard of Julian Lee before? He's great!
What a gorgeous tenor solo!!! Wow!
Beautifully played!!! I just listened to Ike Quebec play it with Grant Green, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe.

Bros really gatekeeping a tenor part
@@alejandrosantana5133 Really? Wow sorry. It's just Herschel is so valuable and rewarding to really listen to. Fabulous.
Bro i did not understand this comment in the slightest, would you kindly explain what you meant?

That tenor is just exquisite lovely phrasing
Reminds me very much of Don Byas. Great Tenor solo!!. Fantastic composition by the Count- Bill Basie!
i agree. I would love to see a Julian Lee rendition of Laura like Don Byas.

I’m a paid musician. This scares the pants off me. It’s so fierce at lilting tempo
Oh wow, got that Basie lilt on the tempo that's so drunk, it almost falls off the curb into the street, almost...
amazing job to the tenor but how did the highschooler in that one vid do a better job lol
hell no😭
The highschoolers do it for the love of it. These guys have a buisness it’s work for them so that may make them perform safer

Is it Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble From Ellington?
