I didn’t know that and I’ve been a long time zelda fan since I played Breath of the Wild in 2019
So this Ganondorf is basically a newly reincarnated Ganondorf with his own completely different set of ideals. OG Ganondorf actually cared about his people but this psychotic bastard was even willing to destroy his home along with the rest of the world.
I mean, to be fair, originally in ALTTP it was said that Ganon betrayed and wiped out his followers and fellow thieves purely so he could, alone, take the Triforce. This is actually more aligned to the Original Ganon concept.

@@zirrous I think it’s safe to say this is either a completely separate timeline, or the Fallen Hero timeline no longer refers to OoT Link but maybe a Link between SS and OoT or just the theory that most people had pre-Hyrule Historia that most of the games are just retellings of each other.
It’s hard to believe the Gerudo keep producing and falling for a king of the same exact name that keeps shaming their culture and leading this into ruin and kingdom war. It’s like if in 100 years another guy named Hitler runs for German Chancellor and no one puts two and two together.

During that time, theories were flying around telling that Ganondorf didn't start as a bad guy and this was a mean to purify himself from the source of evil, in hope to break the cycle.
I wished that theory was true… it would been so cool of a redemption story for Ganondorf
Instead we got a version of Ganondorf that became literally the Heir of Demise by turning into a being that resembles Demise very much.

Theory: Ganondorf targeted Queen Sonia, because he wanted to demoralize Rauru for only using the secret stones as tools of peace. And also, he thought that there were only 3-4 of them in existence.

@@chadpeterson5698 not necessarily. Rauru could just be the first king of this iteration of Hyrule. We have to remember that all other bits and pieces of information we have showed that botw was the furthest in the timeline of any other game. And the great calamity before botw happened 10,000 years in the past. The great plateau also has ruins that look like the castle town from OoT. So the environmental storytelling from that alone would indicate this took place after that.
@@thedeathofreason That's just mere references. If fans actually looked into Age of Calamity, the Great Plateau was actually once a thriving town with four temples (three for the Golden Goddesses and one for the Temple of Time) just 100 years ago, not ancient ruins from Ocarina of Time.
And then TOTK showcased that the original castle and kingdom was indeed on the Great Plateau. That's where Rauru and Sonia lived the whole time.
So yes, there is no Ocarina of Time or Skyward Sword in this new rebooted timeline.

Honestly this feels like a reboot and I don’t mind. I love those old Zelda games but it got to a point where the story and timeline was just so damn confusing and it seemed like Nintendo didn’t even know what the story was. I like that in botw and Totk, Ganondorf and Demise are basically the same person. I also like this new version of Hyrule’s creating. I love oot and ss but I hate the whole timeline split so I don’t mind getting a reboot of the franchise. Also this new imprisoning war is so much better than the old one.
I'm fine with this being a reboot so long as we do get games in the old timeline too. I don't want to abandon the old stuff entirely.

Ganondorf is a military leader and a king who only wanted to give a healthy life to his people and end the tyranny of the rulers of Hyrule who attacked the entire kingdom (they destroyed it in Wind Waker).
I understand that it is a different Ganondorf but do not make it very clear that if he is possessed by Ganon or directly is Ganon finally reincarnating in human form is confusing, Ganondorf is not a psychopath, he did not kill to kill

@@johnsantos507 There are three distinct timelines in the Zelda universe however Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom appear to converge all three together into one point somehow. Breath of the Wild takes so far into the future of the timeline that it’s absurd, thousands of years over.

so, from what i can tell. in this new reboot of the zelda lore. Ganondorf and Demise are essentially the same person now.
if / when we get future zelda games, i suspect they'll either take place in between the events of past totk, and botw, or in a DLC we'll see ganondorf place a similar curse on link and Zelda that Demise did in ss
hate it. OOt was the cornerstone of LOZ storytelling. So disappointing if that's the cop-out.

This isn’t a reboot. It’s a continuation but it’s so far into the future that this Hyrule is two ages apart from it. It’s so far in the future the previous games exist in what they call “The Age of Legends” and is so far back it’s barely remembered. Although it is confusing they call Rauru “The First King of Hyrule” because that’s just plain untrue unless this takes place in Wind Wakers Timeline when they went looking for a new land to call Hyrule

Ganondorf has alway been the reincarnation of demise. Also if one looks at the tear one could see a golden triangle, implying it could be containing the tri force of power

After careful thinking, I'm absolutely positive that this is a completely different Legend of Zelda origin story than Skyward Sword. Meaning it's a completely different timeline separate from the other games. This Ganondorf is what Demise was. The war that Hylia fought didn't happen, it was Zelda and the Zonai. That to me is a better explanation than "oh it's just so far in the future that everything melts together." Especially since the Zonai didn't exist in Skyward Sword and the battle was over the Triforce not Tear Stones.
This happens after skywar sword and before the minish cap. It´s in the era of prosperity when the kingdom was created many years after skyward.

I have a bit of a big question. If this is part of the Zelda connected timeline, this would technically be the very first incarnation of Ganondorf after Demise. If that is the case, why did other Ganondorf's come to exist? Totk Ganondorf never died, he's still alive and was just sealed away, meaning that as time passed, another Ganondorf came to exist with similar goals and motives to the first. With that being the case, this Ganondorf would not be a part of the resurrection cycle as through each timeline, through every fight between Link and Ganondorf, Totk's Ganondorf was always there, biding his time until he was released.
Well, the only case I can remember is that time the soul of hero of time Link meet his descendant to train him in order to save hyrule, so the reincarnation can work if the the predecesoe is in some way dead or sealed.
But in some point Ganon has the memories of his 2 predecesors so he remembers zelda and link from past events.
That's the funny thing. It's not. It's a different universe.
BoTW is at the end of the timeline, and TotK is assumed thousands of years after the previous games. And in Skyward Sword, Demise curses Zelda and Link and they and Ganonddorf are 3 parts of the triforce cursed to repeat this tragic battle through the ages.
This isn’t the first Ganondorf. This Ganondorf is one in the FAR Distant Future that the past games are only remembered as myths and legends. I’m betting this takes place in the Wind Waker timeline because at the end of that game they sailed off to find a new Hyrule. Considering one of the Leviathans in the previous game was essentially a beached whale and in game they say it probably died when the sea dried, I’m willing to bet this is Hyrule reclaimed from the Great Sea.

Trying to sort out where this game is on the timeline is tricky.
They just name drop this conflict as the Imprisoning War. And it partly matches what LTTP tells us. There's clearly no Link/hero for this battle. So the forces of Hyrule and 7 sages band together to stem the tide and seal Ganondorf away. But what we see in LTTP doesnt lineup with this game. In this game, there's no triforce, no sacred realm.
My first thought was that Nintendo is just massively retconning past games. Using the purposefully muddled timeline references all throughout the BOTW/TOTK Hyrule as a way to say that the more time passes between events, the more distorted memory of them becomes.
Maybe what we play in LTTP is just the result of the actual story being lost to time and changing.
But that can't happen because if TOTK is the REAL story of the Imprisoning War, then everything else about Hyrule's history is wrong. LTTP happens because the Hero of Time failed his quest to stop Ganondorf in OOT. But, if the real story of the Imprisoning War is as we see in TOTK, we wouldnt have a Ganon for Link to fight in the original LOZ and onward.
The Gerudo in the BOTW note that a male is born among them only once every 100 years. But, no male Gerudo have been born since the one who became the Calamity. Which is this same Ganondorf we see in TOTK. His power reaching out in the form of malice/gloom WAS Calamity Ganon. It's clear that despite being a mummy, trapped by Rauru's magic for thousands of years, Ganondorf was still very much alive. When Calamity Ganon resurfaced for BOTW, he wasted no time in hijacking the same methods used to beat him last time in taking over the Guardians, Divine Beasts, etc.
There's no way this Imprisoning War is the same one from LTTP. Ganondorf, as previously mentioned, is sealed by Rauru's magic for thousands of years. The Gerudo haven't seen a male born to them since the one who became the Calamity. We couldn't even have OOT if this was the case.
So when I thought that this was a retcon by Nintendo, I thought it was changing the events of past games, but its not. I think Nintendo is using this to retcon the entirety of the Zelda timeline away from the triple split and to a more unified one thats easier to keep track of and build on.
There just isnt a way for TOTK to be the real story of what happened while the events of other games also exist as actual moments in Hyrule's history.
I nearly convinced myself that the humans we see in Skyward Sword were actually Zonai and when they came down from the sky, they founded Hyrule and all that good stuff.
But that can't work because that would mean the Zonai built all this fancy technology and then forgot how to do so when they went skyward. Which makes Rauru's musings on the Zonai constructs still sticking to their labors after many thousands of years all moot because he shouldn't remember much, if anything, about them.
Point is, I think Nintendo is using these games as a chance to get away from the triple split timeline and move to a more cohesive one.

It looks as if Ganondorf tries to release his energy here but doesn't quite get it the first time so he tries another time but doesn't get it and on the third try he gets it to work. Kinda neat how it shows us how he's staggering after just getting a big battery boost on his power and how he's not used to it yet and gets over confident trying to use it.
But it could just be the animation and im looking too much into it.

So Basically Ganondorf was the (piglet demon king) but he wasn't the first OG evil big bad man guy.
Yeah, that's about all I had understood at first.
I see a lot of people confused thnking this is a new universe or that this is not the first Ganondorf. The truth is, this is , the same universe and this is the first incarnation of ganondorf.
The memories take place when the kingdom was founded hence, in the era of prosperity, after the skyward sword which proceded the era of chaos and before the minish cap. It was in this era when the Kingdom was stablished canonically. So yeah this is the first ganondorf after demise that´s why he looks so similar. He was techincally killed by rauru that´s why he was re encarnated in the Ganondorf of ocarina of time. The games are old so ofcourse there would be some retcons but it fits perfectly in the timeline. This is the first sealing war. The other games occured in the time expand of more than 10 thousand years, all the enviromental references that appear in breath of the wild confirms this. One even mentions Link from twilight princess. Or also Zelda referencing the heros of sky, twilight and sea.
It´s hard to bealive that this Ganondorf was sealed deep under the castle in all the previous games but that is a side effect of a 35 year old franchise.
Can someone explain to me htf this doesn't retcon OOT Ganondorf? Are we to assume he is also reincarnated in the same way Link and Zelda do? Also, how does this make sense in the OOT timeline if he's born into the Gerudo tribe during that time - is ALL of this before OOT?

@@mercianthane2503 in no document or hyrule history or hyrule Encyclopedia say that Zelda (Skyward Sword) is the founder of hyrule, that is, it is likely that they have created a civilization, but not a kingdom, Sonnia is probably a descendant of Zelda (Skyward Sword) and when the zonnan came down from the heavens, there they did found hyrule with the help of the civilization created by Zelda (mortgage) after skyward sword, for minish cap, the kingdom is already founded, so these events had to have already happened, the foundation of hyrule is before ocarina, in summary, the foundation of hyrule that we are told in the timeline of hyrule History, it is probably this, that is: Skyward Sword -> The Intruder War-> The sealing of the Triforce in the sacred realm by the ANCIENT SAGES (who are mentioned in ToTK)-> Hyrule Foundation-> Age of Legends (where Zelda travels in time), unless you think I'm saying that ToTK (the gameplay itself )happen before ocarina, in that case, that's not what I meant.

Aonuma stated that this happend in the ancient times of hyrule and confirmed that skyward sword did happen and the sure make an effort for the player to know. The problem comes with the rest of the games. True is in breath of the wild twilight link is mentiones in some ruins and other stuff. The other thing is , that according to hyule historia all this shit happend in a time expand of more than 100 thousand years. Thans enough time for stories to become legends, be forgotten, for kingdoms to rise and fall. But despite all of this, Zelda is a 35 year old frachise and its quite hard to make all connect. So yeah it is a soft reboot.
The only way I see this make any sense in the current lore is if this ganon is a different ganon than the ocarina of time, I think something similar happend before on the timeline, but from the flashback and current year was a thousend years, we really need a new lore explanation for all of this...
How I see this is that both botw and totk take place on a fourth timeline branch after the events in Skyward Sword.
This game makes it clear that the Zelda team does not care about connecting one game to another in terms of lore. Tears of the kingdom does very little to nothing referencing the guardians or divine beasts from BOTW as if they never happened. Calamity ganon is never mentioned by Zelda in the past even when she sees ganondorf as if those events never happened. The literal Triforce is never mentioned either as the focus is now on these secret stones that were also created by the gods. Rauru being the first king of hyrule makes absolutely no sense either. It’s clear that the Zelda team wants to try new ideas and move on from the pre established lore without officially saying they are done with the old stories.

Nintendo believes we can be fooled easily. This game is a total reboot, and I'm okay with that. The old timeline was a mess after Wind Waler was released and Nintendo kept adding much more confusing elements in Skyward Sword.
It is fine for me if after Skyward Sword the events 10,100 years before ToTK taking place instead of the other games.
