Have a wonderful honeymoon. I am really delighted to see the planning steps you took to achieve the holiday wardrobe. A tip regarding the swimsuit, really lovely silhouette for you, cut out pattern in the separate lining fabric you plan to use first, and make the necessary tweaks there before cutting out your main fabric. I use this method often and have found it very effective..
A packed video today full of great garment ideas, which resonate with me. Also, I have lived and worked in Kyushu, Okinawa and Kanagawa prefectures. As you probably already know, rainy season can be humid May thru June, so many locals rely on natural fiber wovens then. Also, that swim suit will be stunning in your fabric! For Kyushu sites, you might check out the Kintai bridge in Iwakuni -a beautifully restored undulating bridge to walk with your love on a fine day- and a lovely photo shoot!❤ Suzanne
Thank you for your recommendations! The Kintai bridge looks absolutely beautiful too. We'll be traveling more in the southern areas of Kyushu (Kumamoto & Kagoshima), but I'll save it for perhaps a future trip!
I just took a course on sewing with knits and we made two swimming suits. It was not a scary as I thought it would be and the best thing I learned was to do all my fitting in swimsuit lining and then once I had that done I could cut into my garment fabric with confidence.
I totally agree with you that every event deserves a handmade garment! I sewed for my husband, daughter, son and myself for our recent Japan trip. My wardrobe was completely handmade from scratch. We all wore what I made. Thank goodness that I made my son a jacket from soft shell to keep him warm and dry! I really love how you made a croquis, that would really help my daughter visualise better all the garments that I make for her. Enjoy sewing for your suitcase and have a wonderful honeymoon xxxxxxxx
Oh, wow! What a feat! That must be so special seeing your whole family together wearing the clothes you've made for them! I've been meaning to make a soft shell jacket for the same purpose, but just haven't gotten to it - your son is very lucky! And I highly recommend the croquis activity, it's helpful and, surprisingly, a lot of fun!
Such a fun video on one of my favourite subjects! I love planning travel capsules with pieces that will then integrate into my wider wardrobe. It's a great motivator to sew practical and versatile garments, and I love what you said about how the clothes become imbued with the memories you make while wearing them; I feel that way too (and it's even more satisfying when the fabrics were ones you bought while travelling on previous trips). I packed very lightly for my two week trip to Japan last November, in part by taking minimal skincare/ make-up (knowing that I could easily buy good quality affordable travel-sized skincare once I got there) and minimal sleepwear too, knowing that a lot of hotels and ryokan provide nightshirts and/or yukata. By thoughtfully planning my travel wardrobe, as you have here, I was able really save on space and weight in my bags. While there were a couple of things I would have done differently, overall I was happy with what I took, and particularly that I had so much space for fabric shopping in Nippori, which, as always, was a delightful (if occasionally overwhelming) experience! I can't wait to see your planned capsule take shape, and I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventures.
Thank you so much for your message and especially for your packing tips! I forgot about the sleepwear/yukata that Japanese hotels often provide and you're right about the skincare - no need to bring a fully stocked toiletries bag as I know there are a lot of products I'd like to try there!
How exciting! Me and my fiancée are getting married in May and our honeymoon we are hoping will be in Japan!!! So thrilled for you. It really is a cool place
Congratulations! I wish you all the best in this last leg of preparations for your wedding and I hope you'll be able to make it to Japan for your honeymoon too!
Your croquis looks amazing! It's so like you! Well done! I hope you have the best time on your honeymoon. (I'm sure you will!) I lived in Japan for five years when I was younger and it was wonderful. I haven't made it back yet, but I would love to go again someday. Thanks for sharing your process, it's so inspiring! 💙
Watching your videos has inspired me to learn to modify patterns to fit my measurements. I did my first pattern modification today and am so excited to see how the project turns out! 😊 Thank you for the inspiration and for being such an awesome sewing nerd! Good luck with the handmade travel capsule. ❤️
Oh, thank you so much and I'm so glad your first pattern modification went well! I find that being able to customize the fit of my clothes has really changed the way I think of my body and what I wear and it's so empowering!
Have faith in you, you will manage to sew the swimsuit! The collection you curated is very beautiful and elegant. Watching you plan everything is very inspiring, but also quite funny. I'm currently planing my wardrobe for my trip to Japan in October/November. The region you mentioned just entered my list of possible places to visit! Thank you for another great video!
Love your philosophy about sewing for occasions and the memories you then associate with them, i totally identify with that. I really appreciate how creators are now sharing challenges - it's just clicked how find the cooler wet months more challenging, i know you didn't mention it in this video but i just wanted to acknowledge it. Enjoy your honeymoon ❤
Thank you so much! And thank you for sharing that sewing for a special occasion and experiencing a hard time with motivation in dark, wet seasons resonated with you too. I’m glad I’m not the only one!
Looking forward to seeing your new items! Have a wonderful honeymoon!! I find all my undies and swimsuits want to ride up so much and finally figured out why, I have very thin legs and the leg holes need to be cut smaller, in case you have this problem
Thank you for your well wishes! I'm glad you were able to figure out why your undies and swimsuits were riding up - that must have been such a nuisance! I have the same problem and I think it's because my torso is a little longer than average - I think I'll lengthen the swimsuit just in case and test that size with the lining 😊
I’m so envious - Japan has been my absolute favourite place to visit 😍 I recommend checking out Rosery Apparel’s recent videos if you’re at all interested in doing some fabric shopping while you’re there. Janelle recently spent a number of months in Japan and has some great travel vlogs and - most importantly! - great fabric shop recommendations. She travelled around a good bit so I imagine she made it to Fukuoka, although I don’t specifically recall. Enjoy your making and your travels 😊
Thank you for the recommendation, Janelle's channel sounds really interesting and exactly what I should watch before going! Thank you too for your well wishes, I appreciate it 😊
I hope you get a chance to go to some sewing shops while in Japan. If you do, maybe you can film it for those of us who wish we could go fabric shopping in Japan too. Janel who has the channel Rosery Apparel, filmed fabric shopping in Japan and her latest video was sewing a dress from a Japanese sewing pattern she bought while there. Have a wonderful honeymoon!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! And for the bathing suit, I didn't think of that, thank you for the tip! 😊

"Talisman of courage" - I really like that. So descriptive. All your makes are gorgeous. Especially the red skirt.
I’m glad that it resonated with you too and thank you! 😊
