You can reach those back spark plugs also from underneath the car if you raise the car I've done it that way lots of times they're a lot easier to get at and you can see what you're doing a little better that's if you want to take the time to raise car and go under there you also need the swivel socket and Ratchet make sure you secure it be safe but they're a lot easier to get from underneath. I've owned that particular model I've had 4 or of them a 91 Two 92 and a 93 and I've done the plugs both ways just thought I'd give a little information to help.
Getting plugs from under the car is a great option for people with the ability to raise their cars. I have to do my 1992 Camaro that way, since I have all the smog equipment in place (and it still works)!!

Hi Paulie, I have a '92 seville and I'm looking for the ignition control module. I thought it was inside the distributor but I'm not seeing it in your video. I was going to put some new heat sink on it if it tests that it is still good. Mechanics are wanting around $600 to replace whole distributor. Thanks for this video I was wondering how to get that battery connector off of the cap! My caddy has a crank no start condition. Usually starts after 3rd or 4th crank and sometimes on extended crank.

Holy shit I love my 91 Cadillac DeVille I have the exact same one you have, Beige, same rims, electronic dash it was taking care of and garaged so the leather and everything inside still looks brand new it had 207,000 miles on it I bought it for $900 I put a 1,000 miles on it before I changed all the fluids and the filters, and within the last 6,000 miles I've done the wheel cylinder, fuel filter, coolant temp sensor, fan relay, throttle position sensor, idle control module, water pump, new radiator, new radiator fans, spark plugs, new plug wires, serpentine belt, new white wall tires I've put a lot of love in this car but now for the last 4 months I've had no brake lights when I push on my brake pedal, I have tail lights I have blinkers everything else works I don't have no hazards and I have no brake lights when I push on the brake! The bulbs are good, the fuses are good, and the brake light switch is good! And earlier this month I was driving home and I stopped at a red light and it died like it ran out of gas and wouldn't start again so me and my friend are trying to figure out, the e41 code popped up and my buddy checked and there's no spark when I trying to start my car so I'm going to just throw a new distributor in it!
I have a 1992 Cadillac Deville with no brakes and no visible leaks on any of the wheel cylinders or calipers. Master cylinder is full. Could it be the ABS system failure or the booster failure? I also cann"t open the drivers door with the key. How can I get the door panel off. Any help would be appreciated.

Subbed. Great video, I bought a 90 DeVille myself last year. 2 previous owners, both elderly people so it wasn't ragged out and only had about 140,000 miles on it. It was showing codes for a bad egr valve when I got it so I replaced it, no biggie. It also didn't have heat, just needed a heater core, also no biggie. Drove it for about 8 months and it started giving me some trouble. Thing starts fine, runs like a dream cold but once heated up it loses power, as in pedal to the floor and it just revs and drops, revs and drops. Under minimal load on a flat road, it'll go decent but uphill or under heavier acceleration it just acts like it's choking out. Changed the plugs, throttle position sensor, temperature sensor, new catalytic converter/o2 sensor, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and cleaned the throttle body real good. I'm no mechanic and been learning as I go, which is totally fun but I'm dying to drive Staley again. (Named the car after Layne Staley.) There's also no oil/coolant mixture that I can see so believe the head is fine and the coolant circulates through the hoses fine. And I also chopped the muffler off to make sure it wasn't choked up there. Any ideas? Thanks man
Thank you for the feedback! I would start looking at fuel pressure next. Have you tried using your HVAC controls to pull any codes? A lot of times the odd OBD1 hybrid computer will set a code and not illuminate the SEL. I had a bad sock filter in my tank that would intermittently collapse and cause me to lose pressure. Also, have you tried cutting the catalytic converter off? Or just the muffler?
@@Paulie_KITT the hvac controls have been the only way I've tried to pull codes. I have an obd 2 reader but not an obd 1 reader or adapter. Yeah, the cat has been off, I replaced it with a brand new one and a new oxygen sensor with it. The muffler is currently cut off. it runs great until the motor is warmed up.
Was it in spec while driving? I've got a test set that let's you watch your fuel pressure inside the car while driving. I'm wondering if maybe the pump is going out, and when it gets warm begins to fail worse. Does your AC work by chance?
I just bought a 1993 Cadillac Coupe deVille from Copart in Martinez, California for $225 and it was a family donation. It has 89,152 miles and runs like new. I will need to reupholster both front seats. The hood release is under the grille on the 1993 only.

Every cooler line leaks so about to do everyone as well as intake valley China walls leaking oil puddle above timing cover about to do all trying to talk him into trans fluid filter plugs cap. Was nicest Seville I ever found made a killing on it and super happy to find loving owner. Daily now is 10 CTSV killing me with these gas prices! How bad those intake man/valley gaskets? Hey 👋 I’m curious of what kind tool you used to reach those tight places ?! I know it’s a 5/8 socket. Did you use a swivel ?! I attempted to do my 86 4.1 the other day, and it was a fail for me. I was able to reach but not get a good grip. What a headache. I also refuse to get under the car to do it. I fear that 😂
The engine block and intake manifolds on the 4.9 L are aluminum however the heads are iron not aluminum, but yer right start your plugs by hand the iron heads are not as easy to get cross threaded or stripped but most certainly possible.
I'm working on my grandmother's 94 deville with this same engine and trying to replace the ignition control module. Where the hell is it located!! I cant find it.
Fear not my friend, it's in the bottom of the distributor. It has a plug on either end, should be a 4 prong, and a 2 prong if memory serves. Should be held in by one or two 1/4 machine screws. Let me know how you make out!
This is great...I have a question for you though. If the Hood cable breaks, how do you get the darn Hood open? I purchased a white Cadillac Coupe DeVille with a broken hood cable somewhere between the hood release lever by the driver inside lower instrument cluster to the hood latch itself and for the life of me can not figure out how to open the hood... It does not help matters much that it is 20 Degrees outside in winter? Can You help?
@@Paulie_KITT I will try to bend or build some kind of hooking wire to see if the latch directly in the middle of the car grill/ Radiator area can be manipulated...you cannot see any of the wire attachment points from under the car or where they route to. If I can not see or feel what needs to be pulled or manipulated can I bother you to take a short video of the primary and secondary latch area's for me to look at?
Hi from Rimini Italy. I appreciate your tutorials videos. I have a big problem with this engine and no One can resolve It with the distributor. I bought years ago a Cadillac Seville of 1983 with engine 4100. The old owner put a carburator two barrel Weber 😅 because ignition was bad. Now the engine dead (bearing of the cramshaft) and I bought a traverse 4.5 of a Seville of 1988. I put the engine in the car using the flexplate of old engine and the exhaust. During the disinstallaton the distributor went broke and the new engine was bared (without accessories). On eBay I have buy a new distributor in Usa for 4.1 4.5 4.9 but in a side there are 3 wires and in the other side 5 wires. What Is the simple way to joint the wire to start the car? All these wires are for the electronic ingnition. (The music Is Amazing of top gun, I made a copy of gpz 900 r and I bought the jacket 😁). Thanks .
hey Paulie, have you ever changed your 02 sensor in your 91 deville? if you have, what is your take on getting it out by it being in such a odd place? i have a 93 deville. i've tried to get it out with no success. i've been doing my own work for over 20 yrs. but, this has left me scrathing my head. i was going to use heet on it but, it's so close to the firewall, i can't get the torch down in there close enough to get to it. also the fuel lines are very close also. i mean it's really in there. never been changed. please help if you can. thanks!
I've changed it twice due to a bad Bosch sensor the first time. The 1st time was a pain, but I got it from underneath with a 7/8" wrench and A LOT of PB Blaster. The 2nd time I was able to get it with a socket and extension from the top. Always make sure to use anti-sieze on the threads!

Is yours all tuned up, EGR working, no codes, and TCC working? At 70 MPH I get 25, and at 65 I get 29 believe it or not. It took a lot to get there, but she runs perfectly now!

Is that for the 1991 or would that work for a 92 as well do they go by years because I know 91 through 93 are basically the same as far as the motors and things like that.The 89, 90 are different they have the 4.5 motor, 91 through 93 have the 4.9 motor and basically the same grills so I was wondering would the 91 service manual work for my 92. I found one on eBay but it's for 91.

Does the Service Aircon light illuminate? If so you can go in the Climate Control module to pull the codes. It should tell you where to go from there. Next week I'm going to upload a video on how to get your codes, but the forums have that info as well.
I have a 93 sedan deville, my grandparents old car, literal 3rd generation heirloom the fuel data center and climate control displays are always blank. any ideas? I have lots of other questions too, any way I could contact you in the future?
When you push buttons on the climate control, does the HVAC system react? If so, then more than likely the displays are bad. If not, then either the modules themselves have failed, or the BCM failed. My BCM took a crap on me, and I lost both displays, and all functionalities. Also, if you can, I'd advise getting a Factory Service Manual.
@@Paulie_KITT climate control will work for a few seconds, and then it shows a "c" or a "d" on the display and is unresponsive. Fuel data is always blank. I did recently acquire factory manual.
@@ShagBackJack the factory manual is an absolute must for these cars. Fortunately if you follow all the troubleshooting steps, you will quickly find the issue. I believe it's section 8 that deals with the electronic troubleshooting procedures. Good luck, and let me know how you make out!
The only thing i don’t like about those engines is the very second they get hot enough to turn the temp light on the dash on, the heads instantly crack and you start getting coolant in the oil. Other than that they are amazing engines.
Check for cracks along the bottom of the bottle, and along the nipple the line goes on. I had one crack right below the nipple and it leaked constantly.
I had a back yard mechanic which is the best name I can call him. He pulled an replaced the distributor and hopefully that's all not he didn't mark anything if anyone has any knowledge they could give I would be very thankful
In a 4.9 Caddie?? You'll have to put it at TDC and drop the distributor in. I believe the 3rd part of the Corvette Swap video has me talking about distributors. Let me know if you need anything else!
Had 2 jackasses working on my cad and now i suspect their repairs..one stole cat converter one replaced a new dealer installed waterpump with 10 000 miles on it..both are government referals and own former gas stations..!!!
@@AMthefox The only parts that are leather, are the seating surfaces, and the steering wheel. The dash, door cards are vinyl. And you would want it that way, because leather on a dash board is a real PITA. BMW 6 and 7 series had a very special model that had leather dash, and just didn't last at all. A lot of Ferraris had leather too. But not GM cars.
Just a FYI cadillac offered real wood on those as well as 20 way adjustable seats on those but you had to order the sixty special or Deville touring sedan and they had sport mirrors and door handles as well.

I'll make a video soon of me removing my door panel... I have to do it too. As for the no brakes, you might have to bleed the ABS system as well

If you slide under the the front of the car and look up, you will see the hood latch. Pull the linkage that the hood cable it attached too

How do I bench bleed the master cylinder with the hydro boost? Also how do I determine if the hydro boost is bad?
Autolight is a ford plug ,you should be using AC which is for GM.

Service manual for 1992 AND 1993 DeVille is the one you want. They combined the two years.

I would also look at your plug wires, cap and rotor. Most auto parts stores can give you the right plugs.

When you push buttons on the climate control, does the HVAC system react? If so, then more than likely the displays are bad. If not, then either the modules themselves have failed, or the BCM failed. My BCM took a crap on me, and I lost both displays, and all functionalities. Also, if you can, I'd advise getting a Factory Service Manual.
@@Paulie_KITT climate control will work for a few seconds, and then it shows a "c" or a "d" on the display and is unresponsive. Fuel data is always blank. I did recently acquire factory manual.
@@ShagBackJack the factory manual is an absolute must for these cars. Fortunately if you follow all the troubleshooting steps, you will quickly find the issue. I believe it's section 8 that deals with the electronic troubleshooting procedures. Good luck, and let me know how you make out!
The only thing i don’t like about those engines is the very second they get hot enough to turn the temp light on the dash on, the heads instantly crack and you start getting coolant in the oil. Other than that they are amazing engines.
It is recommended that you do a coolant flush every 2 years to help prevent that.
whenever I fill up the coolant tank, it leaks somewhere that is hard to find. but the radiator remains full with coolant. so strange. any ideas?
Check for cracks along the bottom of the bottle, and along the nipple the line goes on. I had one crack right below the nipple and it leaked constantly.

Some mechanic leaned and broke it. Clean it and glue the crack. Or put a new clamp and hose on it.
Do the plugs in back from underneath the car.
Do the rear bank from underneath the Fleetwood.

I had a back yard mechanic which is the best name I can call him. He pulled an replaced the distributor and hopefully that's all not he didn't mark anything if anyone has any knowledge they could give I would be very thankful
In a 4.9 Caddie?? You'll have to put it at TDC and drop the distributor in. I believe the 3rd part of the Corvette Swap video has me talking about distributors. Let me know if you need anything else!

Had 2 jackasses working on my cad and now i suspect their repairs..one stole cat converter one replaced a new dealer installed waterpump with 10 000 miles on it..both are government referals and own former gas stations..!!!

@@AMthefox The only parts that are leather, are the seating surfaces, and the steering wheel.
The dash, door cards are vinyl. And you would want it that way, because leather on a dash board is a real PITA.
BMW 6 and 7 series had a very special model that had leather dash, and just didn't last at all.
A lot of Ferraris had leather too. But not GM cars.
Just a FYI cadillac offered real wood on those as well as 20 way adjustable seats on those but you had to order the sixty special or Deville touring sedan and they had sport mirrors and door handles as well.
