  • Ever wonder how fast a dandelion is growing? This 36 days time lapse captured part of the journey, from seeds to sprouting. We took a blowball's seedling from our backyard and test-planted it in an indoor container with LED light and regularly watering. Plant was thriving rigorously to mature sizes by day 36th.

    I just moved to a country property last Summer. After we mowed, thousands of dandelions began growing. I picked the leaves, washed them, and ate them all Summer until the snow fell in December. In January they started to grow again! I saute mine with onions and garlic as you would any dark green. Delicious!

      Can you describe the taste because I tried a leaf of a random dandelion that was growing amongst my arugula, the other day, and it was quite bitter. :-/

    • @LyubomirIko
      @LyubomirIko ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jonescity They are a bit bitter, and you have to get use to the taste. Also they can be a bit chewy. For less bitter one - pick those that have grown in shade and have bigger leafs. The dandelions that grow in full sunlit area have more skinny/long leafs and are more bitter. The same apply to the kale (if you grow one yourself - better put them in mid shade for better taste) Also the flower is editable, and that part is sweeter, it is actually the most beneficial part of the flower.
      That said there is some wild varieties or look-likes; like the "sow thistle" or the "flatweed" that are more bitter - but they are actually editable too. I believe you can put the Dandelions for a few minutes in a pan and cook/sweating them to mild the taste too.

      @@LyubomirIkoThank you, that's great to know! It's interesting how our palate's can be coaxed into liking some foods if we keep trying it in different ways. I bet if a freaking Kardashian ate dandelions it would catch on 🤪. I'm going to try your suggestions tonight and saute some dandelion greens in with callaloo! Hope you have a great rest of your week 💖🙏🕊
