Do you really think it wouldn't get bigger? Since watermelon plant can produce up to 2 or 3 fruits don't you think it's better and especially for commercial purpose,?

      I've had supermarket watermelon. I've had home grown watermelon. I've been in the middle east with my war buddies looking for anything we could est that would quench our thirst.
      Even locally grown watermelon in 120 degree heat tasted the same as the grocery store.
      The only difference is that now I have a memory and an emotional attachment to watermelon. But that supermarket melon hits the same.
      Cantaloupe is a different game entirely. Fresh cantaloupe will ALWAYS beat store bought canteloupe.

    I am going to be growing sugar baby watermelon in my garden this year just wondering if I have to hand pollinate the female flower or if I leave it alone would the watermelon still grow

    • @TonysExploration
      @TonysExploration  ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly recommend hand pollination , leaving it to nature is very much on bees and insects pollinators. In between ,, check out the sugar baby video here.

    Hi. My watermelon was successfully pollinate 3 days ago. What fertilizer did you use to make the melon grow? Did you water them normally?

      After fruit setting , you can switch to lower N , higher P n K. Just water as usual.

    Wow.. can you guide on the medium used to grow like soil,manure

    • @TonysExploration
      @TonysExploration  ปีที่แล้ว

      just normal gardening soil with compost. As long as the soil pH is correct, then it works fine!

    Would sand on top of the soil somehow help keep things dry for the fungus issue? Beginner sorry 😅

    • @TonysExploration
      @TonysExploration  ปีที่แล้ว

      that does not help. and once the watermelon plant reach maturity, the plant will eventually die off due to fungus

    Did you consider treating it with an anti-fungal, baking soda or peroxide? 🤔

    • @TonysExploration
      @TonysExploration  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Actually I take a risk for not treating with any fungicide, and at the end, it turn up great. Of course if the fungal attack during seedling stage, then definitely need some anti fungal procedure. Since this is home gardening, and kind of my hobby experimenting with different technique, yeah... is doing fine without much chemical intervention

    Our plant in terrace garden produced 4 baby watermelons. But two dried away. The other two grew up to the size of big apples, afterwards stopped growing and became yellow . Heart burning experience. Pls. tell me where I went wrong.

    • @TonysExploration
      @TonysExploration  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to do self analysis....depend of which cultivar.. normally I only kept one melon per plant to focus all the energy to single fruit. Also the mosaics virus carry by Whitefly also can cause stunted growth....the last is check the pH..sometimes yr soil can provide all nutrient...but the wrong pH prevent the nutrient uptake. gardening is always about....soil pH and pest management. You get these two right, you almost win the battle

    • @fathimabegum6442
      @fathimabegum6442 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I too kept one per plant and pinched the tips . As u said I should check pH and do the need.

    • @TonysExploration

      Normal gardening soil .nothing special...most of the time, the pest is the culprit, not the soil
