stumbled upon your video, im French (born and raised here) with two senegalese parents that fortunately taught me wolof and i was lucky enough to visit my home country a lot in my 19 years of life so im quite familiar with my cultural ascendance! i learnt english in school (media exposure probably played a lot) and im now trying to learn japanese and literary arabic (did not pick the easiest lol)
for your film-watching goals i highly recommend ousmane semebene's movies! a brilliant senegalese director, most of them are subbed or dubbed in French so it can be a double exercise for you - good luck on your goals!

What a secret blessing in disguise to speak your parents languages! My issue is that I still struggle finding an amplitude of language learning resources in both Haitian Creole and Wolof (at least English to Wolof) but I’ve accumulated a nice list so far. In any case, I hope to stay motivated through the year 🤗 yolo they say! And yes, I’m familiar with Sembene but I haven’t seen all of his stuff yet! I’m excited to dive deep into his filmography and bibliography! 😊😊🇸🇳

Here in Omaha, there isn't much exposure to languages other than English, except for Spanish. There are many people here from Mexico and Central America. There might be a small Haitian community here. At least, I thought that it was Haitian Creole that I heard, along with some French. On a side note, some of my distant relatives might have been among the Polish soldiers sent by the French to put down the Haitian revolt, but ended up helping the Haitians. The name of the town of Cazale comes from my last name, Zaleski.
On TV, it is relatively easy to find non-English language movies and other shows, Netflix and other places are full of choices. That can help language learning these days.

Oh wow! I just learned about the Polish troops! How fastening and encouraging to hear that we had allies in even some of the farthest places from Haiti!

Learning a language is practice, practice, and practice more with a native, and boom voila!!!

I’d like to add “structured” practice and then boom voila over a period of time

iPhone 13 in cinematic mode with natural lighting (around 1-2 pm for me works well). I edited the video in CapCut! I did this all on my iPhone!😅

Hey Fatima I'm try to learn the French language. Just started but I'm thinking like you that this is not a race. When becoming a French resident what level do you have to be at? What does B1 mean ?

Good luck with your journey and have fun! As for French residency, I don’t know. I think it depends on various factors and what you need specifically.
