Wow! I feel extremely privileged to have been on the boat a few times, watching my favourite band - The Heads... So nice to discover the history behind it. I knew it was Viv's place for a while, but didn't know all this had happened...

Good to see this. I lived in Bristol on and off for years and the story was always "oh, this was Vivian Stanshall's boat..". Interesting to see that he had very little to do with it all. I wonder what Suki is up to these days. We are almost the same age. Interesting that it's less a film about a boat or the creation of a theatre and more about these 3 fractured characters all pulling in different directions. And interesting that Hamlet is featured (albeit 'Reduced') i wonder what happened to Ann. She reminds me of people i've known. Its interesting what Ki says at the end as she sits atop her boat - the only surviving character of this play.

They certainly did a job on the ship. A very nice vessel, I'll have to visit her.

I admire their determination, but , talk about foolhardy, it was a crazy scheme ,especially given Viv was involved, it was almost guaranteed to fail. .

Hi, I'm working on a project for Thekla's 40th Anniversary this year. I'd love to use some stills from this documentary, do you have contact with production crew so I can get permissions?

Anyone know if this ship is still extant? According to Wiki it was a nightclub in 2009, there's nothing more after that date.

Still there. Used to be a regular venue on the Bristol scene. Saw lots of bands there. They started veering more towards club nights about ten years ago meaning that the gigs were finished by 9 or 10 which sort of sucked all the fun out of them. I guess they figured they could make more money selling booze to 18 year old students than gig tickets. A Real Shame.

Why an anarchic, nautical, Comic Strip episode with Lemmy as the Jack Daniels swilling pirate captain and the Young Ones as crew and a fiendishly exotic plot involving all manner of sea men/cabin boy related cliches, Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle meets Mutiny on the Bounty was never filmed on board I'll never know? Or was it??

It's like some gullible wealthy yet relatively normal/clean people got involved with a famous mans coked out wife and didnt realise it until it was too late. It seemed like Ki Longfellow didnt really care, and the Blonde lady seemed to realize that when Ki wasnt listening and acting coked out during that lawyer meeting. Pretty disgusting knowing that Ki knew the lady was in all the way financially. I feel sorry for those that did get burned by Ki, but honestly this seemed like a bad idea from the start. Funny to watch them all start off so friendly and then later hear Ki explain one by one why shes happy they are gone never to be seen again lol. Then in the end she admits that people will see her as cold, but that she "hasnt done anything, just watched" lol. Ki honestly seemed like a very off putting almost scary person, even her smile was creepy, it's weird Viv got involved with her, but understandable why they had such a hard time and spent so little time together...
We never hear from the Blonde lady (Ann) after the split, like we do Peter Jackson. That's unfortunate.

My thoughts entirely. A cold fish. Manipulative and scheming bit of a blagger. My ex was very similar...scary. Vivian, on the other hand, appears very much to have been captivated by her dubious charms...two blaggers together... perhaps.

You do not know the story of my grandmother Ki Longfellow so do not spread false knowledge. You havent any right to place your input on a woman who has nothing to do with you so keep your crueling thoughts to yourself, you are unaware how deeply rooted the trauma following her has affected her. If youve another opinion about my grandmother keep it to yourself.

@@irplane Wheres your evidence that she was coked up ? My understanding is that Ki wasn't into drugs or booze. If you had ever read anything about Viv you would know he was an extremely difficult person to live with, drunk as a skunk, valium'd up to the eyeballs, wandering around brandishing 4 foot machetes, totally unable to look after himself and terminally selfish in many ways. by all accounts she was a saint in attempting to look after him for so long, he really was a total wreck and he was lucky he had some people who were prepared to put up with his s eccentricities, as much as I love his work.
