@kniphofia The Coens NEVER wrote BETTER dialog than they did in this movie! Not even in NCFOM or Fargo!! Lebowski came very close but this is still the best writing they ever did!
To me the actual plot in Miller's Crossing is beside the point- it's the language! Reminds me of "The Big Sleep" which made no sense really, even to Raymond Chandler who wrote the story.
@tommyt1971 Much of the dialog in Miller's Crossing was lifted almost verbatim out of the works of Chandler and Hammet. Not that it detracts in any way from its brilliance. On the contrary.
I rank this the third best gangster flick ever made right after The Godfather and Scarface. Much of the dialogue in this is right up there with "Leave the gun - take the cannolis" and "Shoot this piece of shit!".
"If you can't trust a fix, what can you trust?" Absolutely priceless!
Even the ice cubes studied under Lee Strasberg.
this is their BEST FILM PERIOD.
I love this movie. I watched it more than Lebowski and Raising Arizona and Fargo even.
That actor playing, "Casper" was absolutely BRILLIANT in this film!!! He absolutely should've been recognized for this performance!
'cause ethically, he's a little shaky
Sounds like Johnny's gettin' the high hat.
I believe in America. America has made my fortune.

This would be excellent YTP material.
Jon Polito.
Enought said.
Absolutely goddamn right...
Polito is brilliant in this film. Oscar worthy.
Best ice shots ever filmed
"Bernie ain't satisfied with the honest dollar he can make off a fix."
Vig*
Vigorish
How that guy can drink all day long and not throw up is amazing.

Am I the only one who thinks Johnny Caspar's riff on "etics" sounds remarkably like some State Department press release on "human rights?"
Yep
As...mud 😂
I absolutely love the way Polito says "Ethics" at 1:15.
It ain't elves.
Branson Missouri Skaggs Hospital 1972, thanks from John Robert Bruffett Junior USA 🏁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
What is this the high hat?!
Awesome movie.
Best Mob movie EVER!!
Homage to the Godfather, am I the only one who sees that?
Very similar openings...
No doubt about it. From "I believe in America..." to "Why can't I get a full payout on a fixed fight?"
@@ryanevans8566 Good point!
One of the greatest allusions in cinema.
Damn, I always thought your bet maintained the odds at the time of placing your wager. Rough house.
classic stuff.
"So ya want to kill him"

you should've included the rest -_-
C'mon Tom, you know I don't like to think.
Well, think about whether you should start.
bad post..fucking amazing scene though!
