As it's a bicycle world record not a bmx world record, if someone could set it on a penny farthing then they should be allowed to. Bmx's just aren't focused enough of a bike. Trials bikes are built for three things hop, balance and maneuverability. Where as bmx bikes are built for a much wider range of movement's as well as stability at speed and they need a seat not only to sit on but for tricks like t-bogs. Unfortunately for bmx fans the trails riders were, at this point in time able to hop higher. I think a rolling hop would be different though.

It is a side hop technique used to get over the bar, but Guinness World Records have recorded it as a bunny hop over the bar. This does in theory mean someone could try and beat it by using the rolling technique.
Some of the bikes were Monty Kamels. The one that the winning rider was on was another brand. The semi flat tires actually give a bit more spring and soften the landing. Normal for trials. The sidewall of the tire (and rubber in general) is much softer providing better grip when riding on obstacles.
In practical application, trials riding involves a lot of balancing and stationary hopping from one object to another and riding on very narrow objects, and yes, if you want to see actual trials riding check out Ryan Leech or Danny Macaskill

Its still a bunny hop actually but the technique is slightly different and a bit complicated. In trials this is called a pedal hop, its a certain hopping move that you perform in order to angle the bike at the object then do a standing bunny hop.
If you get that first hop in like the guy did at 1:30 you can go higher. I do the same thing on a unicycle and that first hop can gain you a few additional inches

its a biketrials bike and there made for that kind of more technical moves like a side hop shown in this video and they wouldnt be able to because the have to land in the specific area and stop were they would need to get a run up then hop over it
I don't own one of these crappy bikes with only one tube , of course they can hop that high , those bikes have sooo much more clearance than a real BMX that everybody else rides
You can't even compare them, that's a trial bike, it is designed for obstacles (not tricking like bmx or riding around like normal ones), but trust me what they do is *NOT* easy!!

Rode trials for years and i know the skill involved in getting the bike that high... but its only a sidehop which are always easier to get higher, alot more effort doing a propper straight bunnyhop!
the frame is basically squished:p the traingle like part of a normal bmx is squished so the bars are aninch apart so they can be really skinny because its just as strong
He's got one of the highest bmx hops but this is trials where hoping high is pretty much their sport. they are also two totally different methods of hoping
na its not from the tyres its from there body movements and hitting the pedals just a bit to give the right amount of lift, the tyres just do what tyres do and keep them stable

I think the bunny hops should fall into different categories with different bikes . Bmx, Mt bikes, street bikes , vert bikes , cruisers , dirt jump bikes etc because some bikes have advantages like the dude in this vid has no seat that gives him more space to crouch down & spring up . They should have rolling & non rolling categories also . Hell when I rode back in the 80s & 90s I could clear almost 3 feet these guys make me look like a noob .

It's not like a bunny hop because it is a J-hop. They are two different jumps. You can't achieve this kind of height on a bunny hop.

umm... did anybody realize that this isn't a bunny hop? in bunny hops you ride to the obstacle then pull your front and back wheels up(in a nutshell).
