The best in the world faced off at the 2019 Vans Rebel Jam Bunny Hop Contest! See the likes of Garrett Reynolds, Ty Morrow, Broc Raiford, Sean Ricany, Larry Edgar, Dakota Roche max out in the battle for the highest bunnyhop.
WHAT IS OUR BMX?!
In short, we are the Ride BMX staff out on our own. We're building from the ground up and our goal is pretty simple. We want to continue what we love. We want to create great content, feature awesome riders, and contribute, push, and show why we love BMX. On my palm like if you put you hand on a table and then just raise your arm up , I got x rays they didn’t see anything soo the doctor said that maybe when you fell you squished these two little bones right here and pointed to the x ray and I was like bruhhh😂

Bunnyhops are one of my favourite things to do on a BMX:) Just hop a ledge, gap, curb, plant, someones dog, literally anything:D

back in the 80s greg hill pro bmx racer did a contest like this. he cleared 48 inches almost 30 years ago

This is great. I’m just getting into BMX at 60. Bunny hop and manual are two things I’d like to learn.

Reminds me when I got back into riding in my early 30's, my buddy took me to the indoor park, by the end of the day I popped tubes in both his bikes, broke one skate board and ended up roller blading, good times lol

brad does have a nuts hop, but its proportionate to his height. he is quite short, thats why in this ty morrow and garret reynolds didnt get that far because they cant hop that high in number terms compared to broc raiford who is 6ft. id still love to see brad in one of these though :D
@@smallsee Body height isn't tye only variable that determines how high a person can bunnyhop. This isn't the NBA, it's BMX. Brad Simms has some amazing pop. Ive seen him hop up ledges others much taller than him couldn't even come close on. It would be interesting to see how he does for sure

@@smallsee highest bunny hops are mostly about who has the best technique, just look at how high Chad Kerley jumps and hes like 5'4"? But I agree the taller you are the better potential, I say would love to see Brad Simms cause he has power along side good hopping technique.

Getting air the hard way, my next door neighbour who had a work shed built me one for our driveway..........I was making if I member rightly 32/36". Not so great you think but that was riding a Diamond Back Silver Streak which was half Chro-Moly and steel frame 36 years ago.
The sick thing about all this is that its almost the exact height as the highest Ollie from flat with skateboarding

You wanna try street obstacles like big bins,it's the right speed ,the pop timing and having to go that extra distance to cover the object, many a time the rear won't clear and spit you hard to the ground ,but one day you'll fly making it look easy and be bestowed legendary status

ok... so I will openly admit, I'm not nearly as good on a bmx bike as I would eventually like to become... I am approaching 4o in a few years, not as young as I once was, not as agile as I once was, but back in my youth, I had a GT Performer that I messed around on a tad... I couldn't do much with it, except bunnyhop, and ride around with the kids I grew up with... I learned how to bunnyhop, where both of your wheels come off of the ground at the same time, this was no easy feat for me, it took me damn near forever to learn how to get the back wheel off of the ground... I can still do this to this day, but my tires probably only come 2-3 inches off of the ground... the hops they are performing in this contest, we referred to as j-hops when I was a kid... this is something I would love to learn how to do, but I do not understand the physics of it... I have watched a few vids on TH-cam, and I know the first step is to yank back on the bars as hard as you can, to pull the front wheel off of the ground, the higher you can pull the front wheel, I imagine the higher it is you can get the bike off of the ground... for anyone not too comfortable on a bike, the idea of pulling up too hard and looping out and smashing your head makes me nervous to pull up too high... so the question is, for any of y'all that have mastered this technique, what do you do after you've pulled the front wheel off of the ground? is this second part more in pointing your toes downward on the pedals and trying to lift your back wheel off of the ground that way, like a normal bunnyhop, or is it more in the motion of your arms? someone told me to try to roll your wrists forward and push the bars away from you after you've pulled them upward... does this only work if the bars are close to your torso to begin with? do you have to do anything with your feet? watching these pros, they make this look effortless, it kinda discourages the shit out of me... any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

no it was over poles as i was doing the same thing back then. i had his pro robinson team. not his but i had the same bike he rode. i am 46 and i still make bmx videos regularly. but ya i have all my 80s era bmx plus magazines still. i am 99 percent it was over poles as i seen photos and i made my own set and only could do 22 as a kid. in my prime i was doing 24 or 26 inches. but i was doing it on a heavy mid school haro. with 4 pegs and both brakes and rotor. i did it on a 36 pound bike. not sure if you ever seen my bmx vids but i do some fun bmx vids. 6'3 and 260 pounds and still throwing down on my bmx bike in videos. bmx for life.

Is there any particular reason you would want pegs on your bike for this? Taking them off would trim a couple of pounds no?
There’s no reason to keep them on, but I believe it’s more about technique than the weight of your bike. It could help though.
There could be. Pegs provide weight at a particular center point of your bike. I personally find it more difficult to hop without two at the front.

Hey can someone answer a question for me. Why do BMXers hold the bars like that. Like leaving so much bar on the outside of the hands. I see it all the time but just don’t understand the reasoning behind it.
Depends on the trick. It's all a matter of feeling comfortable
