Fun fact: My sixth grade teacher showed my class this movie to teach us perspectives. It actually really helped me! And of course the teacher let me borrow her copy after I couldn’t finish the movie, so my family got to watch it too, and we all enjoyed it! Now we got our copy that we use to watch nowadays for fun!
Same, it it was my high school law teacher, he used it to show us how even a eye witness can be flawed as how multiple perspectives can see different things in the same crime.
Amazingly, this was only the FIRST DRAFT of the film’s script. Because of the low $8 million budget, not only was the animation not gonna be of decent quality, but they also couldn’t afford to do revisions or rewrite as they were animating. So they just wrote in one go, and it really shows how intelligent the filmmakers were.
What they would've done is set multiple cameras in each scene then render the frames from different camera perspectives, it's a really creative use of camera switching!
The funniest aspect to me about this is how each character’s perspective is like a different film each. Red’s like a Disney film. Wolf’s like a caper comedy. Kirk’s is like a comedy about an odd man. and Granny’s is like a bloated action flick.
hoodwinked was ahead of its time with this different povs and crossing paths things.. the scene that always gets me is the part where grandma is in the cloud telling red to use the hood, and the movie makes it seems like shes an illusion when shes actually in the clouds after her snowboarding thing.

I like one detail they add in the Wolf's and Red's different perspectives when they meet. When Wolf 'roars' in Red's perspective, it sounds scary, but when Wolf 'roars' in his perspective, it sounds more painful. I like that, because it shows how they think of each other. It's same thing with how they meet in Red's perspective, because Wolf is standing in the dark, and she's more in the light, showing what she thinks. But, in Wolf's perspective, both of them are in the light, showing what he thinks.
I don’t know why it’s rated bad on rotten tomato’s because I remember loving this movie t9 the core as a child, and I still like it to this day, it’s funny and good, especially the one off singing goat, his end songs funny

Whoa, forgot about this film. Need to rewatch it sometime to see if it's actually as good as I remember it being or if it was just me being a kid. I love how the lighting is completely different for when Red & Wolf meet in the forest to reflect how just how different their points of views were. Red is cautious/scared of a giant beast, Wolf is talking like it's an average day.
It's every bit as good as you remember. I saw it with my daughter when it came out and have since showed it to a bunch of mates. I'm 47. It's genius. You remember it fondly for a reason.

So the timelines all match up in terms of length? That's crazy attention to detail! I would have doubted that Boingo could actually be in all of their timelines in such a short amount of time, especially since the mountain was whole different corner of the map
It all checks out: 1. First, Boingo encounters Red. 2. Then he and his guys go vandalize Kirk's truck and strip it of its tires. Once the revelation comes in, you realize that Boingo and his accomplices were interrupted by Kirk and the kids coming back, and the ski team were all hiding in the trees. 3. Then he takes Red up the mountain and realizing she's in possession of the book, tries to steal it from her. 4. Since he knows about the Wolf poking around, he decides to send him and Twitchy on an out of the way route to Granny's house. I'm just going to assume he intended for the Wolf and Twitchy to drown in that cave. 5. Then it's back uphill to oversee taking Granny out during the ski race.
I've seen this movie, and while the animation is blocky and the some of the characters are unusually designed, it throws a few twists and turns to the Red Riding Hood story that make it enjoyable.

The brilliant part of this movie being animated is that they can show events unfolding the *exact* same way from different camera angles (by simply reusing the same animation), which would be very hard to do if you shot it for real. And it saves on budget, too!

I'm seeing a lot of comments on the interesting aspect of the different perspectives for a crime. This was a favorite movie growing up and as such, I'm just realizing why I love a new show on Apple with the same idea (unfortunately, i can't remember the name).
I think we can actually see the animation get better as the movie progresses, if we thinked they started in chronological order than it would make sense as the animators didnt have any experience with this software or much animation in general, so as they get more comfortable later in the process, the lighting and camera movement improve as well as character movement
You forgot to show Kirks song during the one part where Wolf was using the microphone to listen to Reds conversation. You can hear for a moment he ends up picking up a second of Kirks schnitzel song by accident.
One or two minor errors in the syncing (the actual film, not your editing) - and actually now that I think about it, they are all found within the same one character’s story: • Kirk the Woodsman is nowhere in sight *_from Wolf's POV,_* at the point in Red's song where she passes him, as he sadly leaves his audition _("But a sad song played at the back of her mind...")_ • When Wolf is listening in on forest conversations with his [radio?] equipment (just before Red falls from the cable car), among the things he hears, he picks up a second or two of the Schnitzel song. But I'm pretty sure the Woodsman's truck had ALREADY BEEN "Schnitzeled" by that time. • Not actually an error, but an inconsistency: All the other characters end their stories at the point where they all converge in the room, screaming; Wolf's version misses that part.
I always think the Wolf's story cut off at the point where Red comes in and calls to Granny to illustrate that from that point on, his story and Red's are identical.

Because clearly, that entire time she's supposedly passing by him, she's inside a dense forest saying hello to various people as she passes by, whereas Kirk is in a large open field with no trees around him. But it could also be she just repeated the song, because it's a pretty long bike ride. We also don't know how long Kirk had been driving and singing in real time before that point. I'm going to assume he didn't just drive five feet and then start his song. Plus, Boingo being with Red doesn't actually make it an inconsistency, cuz from the sheer level of strip the Schnitzel truck went through, it was obvious the evil ski team did the job and not Boingo by himself.
I used to consider this my favorite movie ever back when I saw it in 2006 lol I was 11 going 12 and I didn't get really started in my cinephile journey, I didn't see The Unusual Suspects, Pulp Fiction or even Sin City, so this cartoon really blew me away with the concept of the non-linear storytelling and seeing the events playing out from different perspectives.
God this movie really doesn't get enough credit with how the shots actually line up pretty well in timing, with beats ash shown here literally matching up with only a little editing.

It's brilliant how the scenes are almost completely synced. Shows the attention to detail the animators went to.

I've seen hoodwinked so many times! To see all of the scenes in this perspective gives it a total new experience, i love it!
