If you unwind the solder half a meter more and hold the soldering iron at the back of the cable, you can make it even a little more difficult for yourself ;-)

Nice job with the respirator, the solder fumes are nasty and dangerous! The blue sponge in the soldering iron stand should be soaking wet with water (even some extra standing water is fine too) so when you wipe the tip on the sponge, the wet sponge shocks the tip clean.
