  • 1-POCKET: BUDDY “The Rifleman” HALL and “Pittsburgh” BILLY INCARDONA are featured in a match at the 1994 Roanoke One-Pocket Championships. Buddy and Billy were renowned in their prime as top echelon players who weren’t shy to gamble. Hall, of course, has a host of tournament titles in his career including two U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships. Incardona, the “Voice of Accu-Stats” for over 30 years may know more about the game of one-pocket than anyone. Let’s see how they did so many years ago.
“Weanie Beanie” Bill Staton and Johnny Ervolino, the “Velvet Foghorn” kept you entertained.

I'm so grateful that Pat Fleming (accu-stats owner) makes these historical matches available to the public on TH-cam. Very generous as his business model would seem to be at odds with this. Thank you Pat.

The transfers from film back then to video now make for some VERY nice viewing. In the taped versions from that era you're lucky if you can differentiate the balls. It is really nice.
Great match, it looked like there were a couple of funny exchanges between them and those back to back triple combos were great. They weren't hard and were the right shots, but I don't think I've seen that happen in a pro one pocket match. I saw the eight, but not the six.
I knew in my heart when the Rifleman flubbed that shot that Billy was going to put him away, and he did it in fine style. I hear Billy all the time commentating and he does a first class job of it. Fun to see him play, and easy to see why his commentary is so good.
And when he gets with Danny it is hilarious. They are like an old married couple sometimes, and I always get a kick when Danny shuts Billy down because Billy can't stop laughing. Danny's always good for a top notch quip or two, such as "he's amphibious". Thanks for posting this match.

Billy I heard you mention some of the colorful "old timers" like Peter Rabbit. Downstairs in Mosconi in Philly. Every famous player came in to play The Rabbit who was always broke and lived with his mom at age 45. He gave me evry ball in 9 ball, won every game, then drove me home in a snowstorm. I was 16. Memories!

Billy signed my One Pocket book a few years ago when I was almost too scared of his fame and talent to ask him. What a gentleman. One time I saw him send a hundred bucks by Western Union to some hard-up guy halfway across the country. He asked a poolroom regular to take the cash and make the WU transaction, then had the grace to simply say "thanks" when the guy returned, pocketing the receipt without even looking at it.

40:37 The match they’re talking about is Mike Sigel’s 150 and out video, where Johnny joined Weenie Beanie and Grady Matthews in the booth for the last few racks and Sigel used the exact same pattern at the end of every rack Johnny commentated on. I wasn’t playing when Johnny was around, but I imagine not too many people ever out-maneuvered him throughout his career.

How is that not a foul from Billy at 35:29 and why would Buddy not ask for a neutral party to call the hit seeing what Billy was going to attempt? I have no beef with who was the winner, just surprised Buddy sat silent during a pretty important point in the match.
