Joining a co-op and not letting it take too much time away from your home academic pursuits is HUGE!! There's so much pressure on homeschoolers to "socialize" their kids and making sure the co-op you're apart of doesn't suck up all your time is the best advice! 💕💕
We belonged to a really nice co-op for 3 years. However, there was an issue with moms who wanted a select few to carry the weight of teaching year after year. The prep work would take up insane amounts of time, plus the frustration of knowing all the time I sacrificed with my family, as I watched the moms who refused to teach, sit and snack, chat, play on their phones, lol...then occasionally hear them gripe about a teacher they didn't feel was prepped well enough. Dont let yourself get taken advantage of. We are taking a break this coming year and will possibly return for higher grade levels. We'll see. Also, as we approach middle school years, I just feel an urgency to have my boys to myself for a little while. Time goes by way to fast, moms. Oh I just found this channel. Over the summer I LOVE to sit on the front porch and watch homeschool videos!!! Thanks for the interesting content!
Oh that is so frustrating. I am glad you are getting a year off and I will pray when the time comes to go back to co-ops that God will bring the right one for your family.
SO true! Struggled so much with a co-op this year. Didn’t realize there were different kinds. The one we were in was more academic based and my kids just wanted to play with other kids, and it’s all I wanted for them too.
It took me a good long while to find a co-op that would work for our family. I found one that I can pick and choose what classes my child would like. I also don’t have to volunteer (which is perfect as I’m a working mom).
This video is so valuable. I am just coming off being soft kicked out of my co-op I’m honestly still a little confused yet I’m giving it to God. Definitely a lesson I have learned. I may focus on other extra curricular next year just so I can have a stronger why for if we join one again.
We are in the process of joining a co-op, so it was good to hear your thoughts. Unfortunately, we live in a small town, so there aren’t many co-op choices. However, I think we’ve found some that fit our needs 🙂
I really wanted to join a co-op mostly for socializing with other kids but I am not into sacrificing our homeschool pursuits for it. I was wondering if a homeschool field trip group would be better.
wow! thank you so much! Gives me a lot to think about as we decide which co-op to join. I'm curious--will you be doing a co-op this coming school year?
So there are 3 things I would do. 1) contact your state homeschool organization and see if they have a list of co-ops 2) Ask Friends on FB, in person, etc 3) google search homeschool coops and your city name

Yes, I love co-ops but making sure your work is not suffering can be hard.

Very frustrating. It’s important to have clear guidelines around the expectations of parents. Hope it all works out for you.

Yes, it helps so much when you can find the right kind for you and your family

That’s awesome

Oh no I am so sorry to hear that.
I’m so sorry to hear this! I’ve been hurt before - not in a coop - but in a moms group. God is faithful to help heal us
This is great Katie. As someone that has worked with co-ops for 10+ years it’s all really good advice.
Thank you

I am so glad you have found something to meet your needs.
These are such helpful questions Katie! We’ve done co-ops twice in the past and both were very different. 🤗👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Beat ever impartial video on homeschool coops!

Thanks for watching

Yes that can be a great alternative. We do one once a month and it keeps it fun and easy without sacrificing school.
Sounds like you just want a social group and not really a co-op.

Yes we’re doing one this year
How do go about searching and finding coops in your area?
So there are 3 things I would do.
1) contact your state homeschool organization and see if they have a list of co-ops
2) Ask Friends on FB, in person, etc
3) google search homeschool coops and your city name
Great video!
Thanks
How do you find co-ops? Only through your church?
Sometimes through churches but also by googling co-ops, asking others, and you can always create your own too
We are moving soon but are thinking of joint a co op wen we get to our new place.
That sounds like a great plan
