Artists, please charge your clients for every major change they make you do. Little changes can be free but big changes are gonna have to cost an extra $5 cause what this guy did was not great.

I've had so many nightmare clients like this over the years. One of the worst being a person who made me start a fullbody drawing from scratch 3 times completely changing the character every time and i was too nice to say no

big part of why so many artists slap the 'three minor edits only' in their TOS for clients like that who never had a plan for what they would have wanted or liked in the first place, or who try to convince artists to move out of their style lol, what an entitled dude
Yeaa I don’t have that rule bc I’ve always been able to handle changes from any other clients but this dude i think he’s just special✨ and at the end I told him i’m gonna have to start charging for more changes he immediately stoped asking 😔else I really think he’s gonna keep going

im glad you were able to overcome ur people pleasing habit, I unfortunately still have it and I tend to make extra gifts for anyone who commissions me because I barely get commissions and feel I owe them more 😭
you get it 😭that was probably his intention 💀and tbh improving in art gave me more confidence and that’s the main thing that helped with overcoming people pleasing (I gave too much credit to that dude), so I say keep drawing and become confident enough to not feel like you owe anyone extra! Gift them out of gratitude not out of guilt🫶

Im not an artist, but i remember the times people would commission me to make 3D animations, and they'd always be so picky abt how they wanted things. Like not even a reasonable amount of pickiness, but like, to the point of absurdity. Id make a change, then they twll me to do smthn else, so i would make something else; then after i do something else, they're like, "uhh actually, i dont like that change it back". Like BRUH. Then when i was FINALLY done, they'd give me a bad review for not producing the commission to their standard, like bruh if you dont like my style dont commission me 😭
Btw, id go through this emotional roller coaster for just $6. Atp id get more bang for my buck being a beggar

I can relate, I once drew one of my colleague for her bday in my young&dumb coop student years and suddenly everyone wants me to draw them (and for free!) I don't even like to draw anything other than girls and ppl were asking me to draw elder ladies and literal babies 😭😭😭 Just don't let irl ppl know u draw unless u are actually ok with drawing them.
I played Chinese online pvp games back in uni as well but since I never told anyone I draw, I was lucky to never get that kind of requests.

I'm pretty sure these type of clients always appear when we are starting as an artist. I had a very similar client when I was a rookie. Maybe they can sense the insecurities haha
OMG I saw my past me in your story XD before I start taking commissions I had a friend who I drew a lot of projects for, then when my art started getting recognized by more people and I started getting comm offers I decided to stop making art for free cause I had clients sitting on the waitlist and that made him feel DEVASTATED. He tried very hard to make me feel like I'm greedy but I could only see him as the greedy one for insisting on getting free art every week while I had clients waiting. After a lot of arguments he made me choose between his friendship and my work. I've been a happy artist since then ❤

honestly, going thru a POS like that is a good pseudolesson for people pleasers like us. sometimes, people just suck and will try to get the best of you no matter what. recognizing this helps in the future a ton when it comes to realizing red flags.

i started doing commissions when i was 10 and i accepted way too many free commissions, and i closed the forms out of stress
but then i started doing them again when i was 11
Had a client who pulled the thing of asking for several small changes every single time I showed them a WIP. Eventually I just told them I was refunding them because I obviously wasn't going to be able to give them what they were looking for. They proceeded to beg me to reconsider and keep working on it, but I was done. Ended up after refunding needing to block them because they just wouldn't give up about trying to persuade me to continue doing the commission. They're the reason now I have an added fee after a certain number of requested changes as long as it isn't to fix a mistake I made. Some people will just take a mile when you give them a foot unfortunately.
i hope he sees this and rethink his life choice

That guy needed a reality check. I was like him when I was like 12-13, glad I got my reality check when I was 14.
A reality check is when bunch of people that you adore and converse with (Most likely on the internet) suddenly cut you out from their friend group, and you are left alone by yourself self reflecting on your actions.
It is harsh, but needed. Preferably when you are a child so it sticks with you as a deep memory.
But hopefully you do not get stuck on the next stage, Depressed Emo kid, too much. Again I am glad it was less than a year for me.
But keep on continuing on the tunnel, at the end of it all, there is the sky and the light.

Btw...is there a good way to get commissions normally or is it necessary to be online popular?...I sadly don't have many commissions and just about from those who personally know me...

Guy paid me 200 dollars, Me happy.. and not seeing red flags. Him expecting me to draw as a pro, when my ability is not even close. Him wanting me to draw.. us.. cough doing the naughty in a forced Fursona he made for me. A giant chubby fox girl that is blue. Me saying that I do not want to be drawn in a erotic way. And I had no fursona back then. Him paying me to hang out so we could collab, and it were always him drawing he base pose and me having to trace it so the image would look perfect. I finally snapped and telling him my mind. I have at that time become a professional artists and drew much much better and him refusing to improve whatsoever. I regret putting down his art ability, but at that point he pissed me off. Kids never talk about others art ability, it is scummy. I learned to never do it again. But this dude.. ugh is annoying

and all of these small stupid changes were requested towards TWITCH emotes. they are so tiny, little gaps in lineart or details like that totally mean nothing when it is seen it 56x56 px or so
