  • In a dual cab ute market dominated by the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, the Mazda BT-50 has long had a way of slipping through cracks. But as we’ve discussed many times over the years, it’s a worthy offering in upper-spec guise for weekend warriors.
While it shares much with the Ranger - platform and drivetrain, most obviously - the BT-50 taps into Mazda’s brand DNA as much as any pick-up can. It looks edgy and car-like, and feels more nimble and road-friendly than most of its rivals.

So what I've takin from all that it's a good all rounder without all the bullshit bells and whistles that one doesn't require in pickup ,the ride is harder for 1 reason only because it has the highest payload of any double cab on the market. The dash has clean lines easy to keep clean in a dusty environment,a good 4x4 system, a non stressed engine good power and torque, fits a family of five and the 2dogs camping gear the motorbike etc in the loadbay , can tow 3.5tons if required has gps and hema maps and it cost less than 50k and dresses up nicely if you are into that sort thing ,then it a good pickup. Great review it is a very capable ute for sure!

For $140 you can have the reversing camera display in the central console that’s the first version that came out and it’s much better I highly recommend getting it sorted .

I believe the bt50 is the best bakkie when it comes to power , load carrying capacity , & Smooth drive yet muscular body that takes you through any obstacle be it on or off road.

Really wish there was some way we could get this truck to the US. Mazda really could use a truck addition to their line-up

Bit of a half arsed effort from Mazda, seeing as it's a lifestyle truck package and not a work truck it ought to have a more car-like interior and gps unit. Take the interior out of the Mazda 3, put long travel soft springs and shocks on it, and you've got a mini-raptor competitor.

dn bn you're totally 100% correct. There's plenty of OFF road suv's (landcruiser 200, disco 4) that drive beautifully around town, but are also beasts off road.

I wish Mazda would release a completely new BT-50, this one is very dated now. Even the steering wheel is Mazda's old design, every other car in their range is so modern & sexy. This one drops the ball
