This is amazing, but I think there's a big problem: Soul is NOT the target of their mocking, as you think. The lines you say are them "talking about Soul" in the background, they're talking to each other here. While Soul is deeply effected by this Arguing, he isn't really targeted, Heart is. Mind, obviously, think Heart is unneeded because he's emotional. Aka "A depressed fool" Heart thinks Mind is unneeded because he's turning Soul into a machine. Aka a "Damn Madman" It wouldn't make sense if they are talking about Soul. It's said that they see Soul as naive and weak (when he's far from it, obviously). They're speaking to Soul himself in this scene; trying to convince Soul to get rid of the other. - Another thing, you've also stated that Heart properly didn't actually hurt Mind, Mind just sees it because Heart wants Mind to feel. This is said otherwise in Mucka Buck (I think it's this song, I might be misremembering) and Night and Light. Heart confesses in both songs that he's "shot at Mind" (this is referenced in Ruler of Everything as well. Juno being Heart and Mind being the sun) I think this is important for two reasons. Mind comes off very critical and destructive towards to Heart. Making him look like the bad guy since he's "such a meanie" (I'm tired). But Heart is just as much at fault here as he is. I also don't think they're against Soul in any of the the songs, especially in Light. Light is them coming together, it wouldn't make much sense for them to suddenly be mad at Soul. Soul was basically what kept them alive before this. Mind might be referring to how they played each other, instead; how they screwed themselves and each other so much because of the fighting. How much time they've wasted fighting instead of living. Other than those points, this is an incredibly good analysis of Chonny's music and covers! You did a great job and I'm glad Chonny is getting the recognition he deserves.
i think you make a great point, from the way i see it it's really Heart and Mind arguing and Soul being tired of being the mediator and wanting to kill all three of them. i do like the more confrontational role Soul takes, however, i do think the two arguing are pleading for Soul's approval and side in the argument as they realize that Soul took over the body. because they cannot control the body, they beg for the control to side with them while Soul wants nothing to do with either of them, resulting in him becoming suicidal and dragging Heart down with him in his thoughts. overall, amazing analysis from both parties!
"Heart confesses in both songs that he's "shot at Mind (this is referenced in Ruler of Everything as well. Juno being heart and Mind being the sun" I just had a massive realisation thats why in mucka blucka it says "if Mr sun (MIND) can't shine nor can Mr moon"
I love this dude. I was listening to this while math and it's. Context, we have OSDD . We usually get into arguments about certain mental health issues the body has. This feels like that in a way. We love each other yes, but we have certain things we disagree with. As a host, I relate to Soul in a way. The realization that we all need to be here to survive makes us upset. We all want our own lives, but we can't. But we make it work. Thank you for this, this made me rather happy.
This is amazing holy shit dude. I know that this isn't the canonical order, but that just goes to show no matter which point of view you have it can all end up with some sort of relevancy.
I really like this video! I personally believe that CCCC tells the story of Chonny slowly descending into utter madness after (and this might sound a tad stupid) a heartbreak he had because of a woman he was in love with. Now I doubt that's the actual story, but it's what I personally believe.
@@schedar_cassiopeia yep! tangentially related but chonny has stated in an official qna that he's pansexual (and that heart, mind, and soul are Also pansexual) if that helps lol
I found this in school and watched it all the way, and then proceeded to watch it again. I have been fixated on this man’s music for a while, and to see it all explained makes me so happy.
I strongly agree with this theory, I always had a feeling these songs were about mental health or suicide since there's almost a mention of a noose in every song, and some of his older songs also lean towards mental health. The plot was explained well, I really wanted to pull the plot of the songs together myself but the words were out of my vocabulary or it just got a bit too confusing. I hope to see more theory videos about Chonny Jash as its interesting to see how music can be interpreted especially with his style of music. The only critique of the video I can think of as of now is that sometimes the background music got more noticeable then the words which made me have to re-watch a few parts since i zoned out. I don't know if its Chonny Jash giving me more split thoughts like those described in the video since I've only noticed it recently but even so the songs do a great job of representing suicidal thoughts, panic attacks and having your thoughts conflict each other simultaneously about those issues in this context. It gives me a much easier way of explaining what I'm actually feeling mentally.
In heart acoustic I always looked at it as mind and heart were mainly bashing eachother in souls part but it’s interesting to think that they could be bashing soul, this vid brought another pov that I didn’t think of before and I’m glad I know now
personally i have a few nitpicks about continuity and the like, but i think this is a really good dive into chonny's work and the messages, subtle and screamed, behind them. it was really entertaining to listen to, and i'd love to hear a part 2 to this that touches on the completed compendium. definitely earned a sub either way
Love it, amazing dive and the album has been on loop for me personally. I do feel like, at least from my experience, heart and mind are more focused on eachother and proving the others uselessness than actually talking to soul. Before they come together they mainly just "past" soul instead of "to". all in all a great starter for looking into chonny's songs.
Love this analysis so much. I've only been listening to his music for a couple of days now, and I can't even fathom coming up with an interpretation that I can relate to this much. Sometimes, it takes someone else to say it for you to realize what's going on
I loved this video, I found CJ just a while ago when I found his take on the mind electric, and a day or so later finding the whole chaos compendium. I've loved the story that's loosely found within the lyrics and wanted to take time to look into it. and then your video showed up to satiate that curiosity
this was incredible. As someone with a total of three braincells and all of them being used for breathing, it was super interesting to see these wonderfully made songs in a completely new light.
This was so well done! But I think there's one last key to this puzzle that was left out in this video and in my eyes it was the final piece of the puzzle the "acceptance" and the "moving on" stage if you will.. Time machine reprise is in my eyes, confirmation and acceptance of what's been going on in chonny. In the beginning you hear two vocals (more than likely from heart/mind) asking who I actually assume is Chonny himself to wait. Ignoring them decides to realize that he's struggling and trying to better himself while trying to stay in the moment he's currently in because it's one of the peaks. I dunno I just feel like it's one of the more important ones
I’m not sure where this song would fit in but I feel like a song that might be important is the bidding. In this song mind and heart are arguing and soul is saying how pointless it is. But there are two important parts. One soul says he will tie the knot (a noose) tonight implying that is the night he’s going to try and end it. The second important thing is at the end of the song when mind and heart combine and stop arguing realizing that they can work together saying that all the chaos and fighting can finally disappear
This is an interesting interpretation! I had thought the attempt was represented by Good Day, being the one with the...let's call them darkest lyrics. Also, I had interpreted Heart being the one that was doing most of the ideation, with Mind trying to help but making things worse (basically the epitome of internalized "get over yourself you have so many great things just stop being sad"), and Soul being dragged along for the ride. This kind of turns my whole interpretation on its head, and I'd be interested in seeing what you think of some of the other songs on the Chaos Compendium; particularly Dream. I had pinned that down as the three surviving their suicide attempt and Soul resolving to carry on, and basically saying Heart and Mind need to get it together. But that...does not work here. So, uh...thoughts?
I have a different order. Light happens after storm and a spring and night happens after the soul eclectic. Light happens after storm and a spring from how heart and mind seem to be on the same page especially with the switch in lyric colo[u]r they both had to stop the noose because it says "we've survived out of pity and spite" heart pities soul while mind spites soul for preventing whole to reform in order to form a trident which then collaspsed everything leaving whole to reform untill variation on a cloud.
Nice theory, but there is something I very much disagree on, and that being soul being a fragment of chonny's true self, being the sociable side of a trinity. But I find that to be wrong given being sociable could fall under heart's purview, in addition to something I think you may have ignored in this theory. That is that soul is the core essence of chonny's being, the origin from which heart and mind were split, and chonny himself, now this comes from the imagery of the songs changing my interpretation of the lyrics as near always, soul is depicted as a grey, the mixture of black and white, but also something from which they can be split, this in combination with the fact that them being hurt by the clashing of mind and heart, two of thier inner functions, makes a greater degree of sense than them singling soul out, in addition to the fact that in dream, soul is compared to atlas, heart to apollo and mind to Artemis. Now you mentioned the existence of a 4th character in this theory, that being the complete chonny, which I do think exists but instead of being intensified with shaders is represented using the rainbow, such as in banana man.
@@CatalystsCompass its a ch at the beginning lol, at the begging of "welcome to tally hall" it starts with "Welcome to chonny's (pronounced with a ch) charming chaos compendium" Though I don't think its worth pointing out. Just throwing it out there.

The thing about JC's work is that it feels way too serious compared to the original material, especially comparing his Tally Hall covers with the original songs themselves. This is not to say that those covers are bad, just that they're somewhat weird compared to the source
Only thing I have to say other than praise is I believe your supposed to pronounce the Ch in Chonny. I am aware that it is a based in the name Johnny. But in the name "Chonny's Charming Chaos compendium" The alliteration works much better with the "chuh chuh" "kuh kuh" sound. I know its nite picky but that just makes more sense to me.
