"Because good & evil as a concept is a good thing, whereas binary opposition as a concept is ignorant, destructive, counter-productive, & stupid" This hits so hard & is probably my favorite thing someone has said in ages
Why does everyone say he's schizophrenic, I've never seen this confirmed by any member of tally hall, or joe himself. all tally hall said was joe was mentally unwell.
@@tallyballYT I find the fact that they're short oddly comforting, I have ADHD so I dont normally watch long videos and being able to understand what I like in a short time and in a fun and actually interesting way is very appreciated:3
I disagree that Good & Evil is supposed to be only the good side because calling something purely good is the exact opposite of what the album’s message is. I believe that it’s more likely that Black People, White People was removed from the album because the song was considered to be a little bit too silly when compared to the other more serious songs. Other than this one point this is a great and well made video.
That’s totally fair. I probably should’ve made it more clear that my point wasn’t just that that’s the reason it wasn’t on Good & Evil, but more so that that’s one of the reasons Joe Hawley eventually did release it (along with the fact that it’s just a good song) and why it’s cool that they aren’t on the same album, because it wouldn’t make sense if they were :)
Also the first half of the album Good & Evil has multiple of Rob’s break up songs. This establishes the idea that love is a strictly bad thing. Later in the album, in the songs A Lady and You we see that love shown as something that isn’t necessarily bad (“I know a lady good & evil”) and can even be a good thing (Rob’s song being “You & Me” while Andrew’s is “You” thus implying that in Andrew’s song their relationship isn’t evil). The album’s beliefs contradict each other here which again shows that the album isn’t meant to show only good. Also, I know “A Lady” was originally about Joe’s grandma but I think that it’s meant to be a love song in this album.
thanks! i always get worried that i don’t go in detail enough because it’s so short, but i think it’s just because i don’t pad my videos with unimportant stuff 👀
Me trying to understand the whole video because I don't know how to speak English and I only speak Spanish: 🕴 but jokes aside, I loved the analysis and as you explain during the video lol
i absolutely love how the two live next to eachother because if you think about it, bpwp and & are also opposites, because their message is the opposite
I think that the message of & is more that nothing are perfect opposites. Like in every “duality” mentioned there is always a grey area where one thing can be both. Idk man
Just found your channel today and subscribed and watched every video! I always love finding more Tally Hall related content and I’m happy to have crossed some more off the list. I make short piano covers and I did one of & a while ago. Keep up the good work!😁
wow this is insanely good! i never would have sat down and looked more into the meanings of these songs, but this is so interesting and makes total sense. how do you find these seemingly minor details and flesh them out into something so deep? (also you’re voice is really nice👍)
also, silly little thing i noticed, both black people white people and & are the second songs on their respective albums, maybe its a coincidence? maybe not?
No I think Black People White People is actually for the same themes of Good & Evil because of that final breakdown after "Single Indonesian Mothers Born in 1967" (or whatever...), there's no 'opposite' of that.
A song vs an entire album? Are you sure? I think Black People White People is just meant to counter &, not the whole Good & Evil. Black People White People is only *one* song.
Tally hall isnt just a conincidence and contradiction Tally hall is a band that consists of funny people and 1 proud loud serious person only some adore. And Fabloo
Honestly, I'm liking the new content but I would appreciate if you could still at least MAKE content similar to the short tally hall clips you used to make
kind of funny how this channel went from random tally hall clips to joe hawley song explanations in the matter of like 7 months
i hope it wasn’t a downgrade

This further proves that joe hawley is an absolute genius corrupted by the horrible ilness that is schizophrenia :(

I agree, and I hope he gets the help he needs
I do hope Joe and all the other Tally Hall members are okay!
I HAVE TWO SIDES
black people || white people
This man really made a poll asking if people think his next video would be about & or black people white people then made it about both
i love how you explain everything in less than 5 minutes, not like that people that make 30 min long vids and dont explain it 😭😭
thanks! i always worry it’s too short and not explained enough, but comments like this definitely make me feel better about it

Good & Evil being the good part of good & evil is funny considering there's no "Hawaii: Part I" :)
The missing duo: Evil G&E and Hawaii: Part I
I did not need to spend 5 minutes on that one poll just to have both answers be correct
