Back in the 2000s, I produced a Judas Priest tribute album, in which Tim did the cover of Exciter. Couldn’t have been a nicer guy or more professional. I’m glad he’s doing well, he deserves all the success in the world.
Agreed. But in retrospect, I fucking hate how both Priest and Iced Earth completely drowned Ripper out in needless fucking studio effects. Just let the dude sing FFS, lmao. Dude's got the most impressive pipes in metal history.

What are the odds that Tim 'Ripper' Owens and Blaze Bailey were both in bands with Bane in the name and then both went on to front rival bands in the 90s. Seriously, what are the odds? Like a million to one? If this was fiction, people would criticize the author for not being very original with the band names.
Blaze Bayley and Ripper Owens were both plucked from obscurity, both only did two albums with their respective bands, both were underrated as well as both their albums were underrated, both of them were fired to bring back the more popular vocalists that they replaced… It’s almost scary how similar they’re careers are.
I've been listening to Jugulator and Demolition pretty much non stop this past month (Jugulator was what got me into Priest when I was a kid) and damn, they're both really good shit. Then this appeared in my reccomended videos. Pretty cool to hear what Ripper's been up to!
My brother also got into priest because of Jugulator. He *had the baddest tattoo of halford on the mic, Glenn and kk, lightening coming down into their guitars crashing into the hammer and the anvil. May my beloved brother rest in paradise. I miss you J so very fucking much. Thank you for vibrating the sounds of the priest, as every time I turn them on I feel you through their music.
Tim Owens is the vocalist on 2 of my favorite metal records of all time, Jugulator and The Glorious Burden. As much as I will always love Rob Halford and Matt Barlow’s recorded contributions to those groups, it’s a testament to Ripper Owens that his albums not only didn’t suck, they have a life and a personality that are absolutely unique contributions to those bands catalogs. He was never a replacement singer, he was wholly unique and the albums he recorded became their own era. Love this man, love his contributions to metal.
The Demolition album helped to get me through high school, and The Glorious Burden was just the thing to listen to as I was becoming more and more politically aware after 9/11. I fucking adore Tim Owens. Thank you, RazörFist, for bringing this to us, and being an interviewer who actually knows what the fuck he’s talking about. 🤘💀🤘
What a pleasure to hear Tim is a humble guy!!! I’ve been a JP fan since Sad Wings, and what a gift Mr. Owens has in his voice and personality! Very grateful to learn deeper dimensions to the history of JP. Thank you Mr. Owens for your gift!! You are at the top of singer history!!!
Tim's an awesome dude. Got Wendy Dio to send me a bunch of signed Ronnie James Dio stuff back when I was doing online radio dj-ing. Met up with him on Iced Earth's stop in Toronto on the Glorious World Tour. Hit that high pitched note in the middle of "Iced Earth" and I swear to God he held it for almost 3 minutes. One by one the band stopped playing and started laughing in amazement. Ripper simply rocks. Heart of a Killer was a fucking masterpiece. Cathedral Spires is the pinnacle of the Judas Priest song catalog. Gettysburg (1863) may be the most epic (and historically accurate) song ever composed in metal. The thing all these have in common - Tim "Ripper" Owens. Nuff said.
Went too Junior Hi and High School with Scott Travis. He was into METAL then and is living his dream. And this was during 72 through 76. The schools were Campostella JR. and Gramby Hi.
Love the full length interview by a actual metal guy. Would LOVE to hear a interview with Jon Shafer of Iced Earth. Especially considering his undeniable and deeply held beliefs regarding the founding and direction of this country currently. I unfortunately do not believe that Jon will be talking to anyone until there is a change in the oval office for fear of his plea deal being altered or changed to taking in public about what happened and what he thinks about the social issues facing this country. I'm sure it would be a legendary hour of thoughtfull commentary with these two...
First time I heard and saw Priest was Burn in Hell video, and I was stunned. I was maybe 12 back then, already heard some metal bands and everything. And that song, music was great, but Ripper's voice and charisma was what hooked me. Later I became singer in my own band and every band member choose a nickname to himself from one heavy metal celeb, I choose Ripper. Was a great time! Thank you Tim, later every album where you sang is pure awesomeness!
Iced Earth took over my life in 2007. I was a sophomore in Highwchool. I'd later find that Marr Barlow would become my favorite vocalist of all time but it was The Glorious Burden and F.A. that really got me into the band. I will always have a level of respect for what Tim did with I.E. Amazing interview. Thank you Razor.
I saw Judas Priest in Tokyo Japan on the Jugulator tour in '98. We were right in the front and after the show Tim came over to the edge of the stage, shook our hands and said thanks for coming. Killer show and I still have the tour book!! We had to be the only two Americans at the show.
Just heard a few tracks off of K.K.'s Priest, right on Ripper Owens! Never heard of Winter's Bane, oh my Lord. That's some great sounding metal right there, going to go back and do a serious exploration of Tim's passes work.
Ripper is a very close second for favorite singer for me. King Diamond will always be my number 1. His voice being buried in the mix in the Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon album is that much more impressive when you listen to the title track. I think the last minute of that song is why they had to bury it a bit. If they had just unleashed Tim's full power he would have caused Armageddon by shattering the Earth like a bullet through a plexiglass window when we all cranked that shit up to 11.
Just heard the full KK's Priest album. Best thing since Angel of Retribution. Return of The Sentinel is easisly the best 'Judas Priest' song since they forged metal on the Painkiller vinyl. Whole album brings me back to everything that made JP great and is lost nowadays. Ferocious, hungry, stealthy and razorsharp. Oh man love that double guitar attack especially. Ripper also sounds awesome. It's like KK's is saying; "You think you know what Priest is about? Let me remind you how its properly done."
Tim Owens and Blaze Bayley shared the destiny of the hated and publicly blamed vocalist that were brave enough to fill in for their idols. It was an unbelievably difficult task, but they did their best and nobody of them failed imho. OK Ripper was better than Blaze to be honest, but Blaze is one of the humblest guys in the business. I attended 3 of his shows here in Czechia back in 2012, 16 and 2020 and thanked him for being Blaze Bayley and for filling in for Bruce. He was touched and thanked me for this one.
This is so awesome! Thanks a bunch for putting this interview together, Razorfist! And thank you so much for coming on Tim! Jugulator was one of the greatest Priest albums ever and no one can tell me different. 🤘🏻
Ripper is a legend! I remember seeing him the first time with judas priest in London on the jugulator tour. I've seen him with many other bands including his solo. Always great and a such an amazing voice!
Saw Ripper about 10 years ago at Download Festival. He was on at the ungodly hour of about 11 o'clock in the morning and a fair crowd were there to see him. He was immense absolutely tore everyone's head of with that scream. An Absolute Legend. Does a fuckin brilliant job in KKs Preist and an absolute essential gig to attend. Metal Legend. 🤟🤟✊✊
Back in about late 2017 I think it was(it might have been 2018).. Tim Ripper Owens did a gig/had a jam at Frankies Pizza in Sydney Australia. It's where we all used to hangout(the local Sydney Rock/metal crowd). I knew nothing about Tim Owens at the time.. Apart from that he had done two Priest records which I had heard way back. What I'm saying is I didn't know anything about his personality.. Having not seen an interview with him over the years. So.. I went along to the gig. Ripper Owens took to the stage. I had no idea what to expect from him.. I was curious. He had stage presence.. Yet he was humble and professional.. Energetic and keen to Rock. The best way to describe it.. He had a laid back/calm/smooth Rockin/attitude. I was most impressed. He sang passionately and with incredible range and different tones.. Lows and highs. Ripper Owens seriously kicked Ass that evening. He spoke well with the crowd. At one point saying.. "Hey.. This is a just a jam.. We are just jamming". I went home that night and listened to Demolition.. A revisit. Rockin.
Ripper has always been a down to earth person.hungout wth judas priest when jugulator came out. Still one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Ripper is still way underrated! \m/ awsome interview.
Need a metal mythos on Sanctuary/Nevermore and of course Iced Fucking Earth/Jon Schaffer (kinda surprised you didn't do one after Schaffer's questionable arrest and "trumped" up charges. Keep it heavy Razorfist!
I had no idea that Wendy Dio was Ripper's manager... if anyone knows about working with superb singers and charismatic frontmen, it's here... I can't believe Schaffer criticized Ripper about not fitting the frontman role better. That's baffling...
Ripper is so sick. Demolition is so underrated album, In Between is probably my favourite Priest song ever. Also, the Gettysburg trilogy from The Glorious Burden and 10.000 strong is up there with the best Iced Earth songs. PS: when a singer as accomplished and respected and talented as Ripper says in an interview "i still have to pay the electic bill", then you know its a sad, sad, sad world we live in.
Grew up on Original Priest and only paid serious attention to Ripper in past few years... I missed out. Serious vocal chops; A real singer who could hang as a replacement for Rob. Said as a Halford fan.

I discovered Judas Priest through Demolition and I had it on constant replay. Upon discovering Rob's years it was yet another awesome journey. One of my most favourite bands along with W.A.S.P.
Tim is a great guy. Honored to have chatted with him myself. In my opinion, Jugulator is the best Judas Priest album. Live in London is as epic as it gets for Judas Priest.
Still get chills and feel awe whenever I listen to the Meltdown '98 live rendition of "Diamonds and Rust"... I love Rob Halford, but that's Ripper's song now, as far as I'm concerned.
Glad to hear Tim pointing out his performance on Framing Armageddon because I have always loved the vocals on that album, and easily prefer it over Glorious Burden.

I still think KK's Priest should rerecord Jugulator and the highlights from Demolition, cut the fat from those songs, and call it Ripper Reborn or Return of the Jugulator
Kinda dig this idea.
I wonder if KK would still want to ride that Priest train instead of doing his own stuff though
@@Hettmar Priest doesn't want anything to do with those albums. I'm not sure if it counts as a retread if you're putting a new spin on something someone else no longer wants. Plus the new album has two tracks called Hail to the Priest and Return of the Sentinel
Ripper is the man! great singer without a hint of LSD
sick!! major jelly Ripper got in w the Razorfist. Thanks for some Three Tremors love Hail and Kill! Sean Peck
Awesome job! First time I saw JP was with Ripper on the mic. Saw them at the Celebrity Theater with Flotsam and Jetsam opening here in Phoenix. They put on a great show that nigh. Ripper was a bit over the top with his name plastered all over his jacket. Found it funny as hell when you brought that up during the interview. Cool dude, love just about everything I’ve heard him on, including KK’s Priest. 🤘💀🤘
I agree "Coffee with Yngwie Malmsteen" needs to be a show! Great interview! God Speed Razor!🤘
Framing Armageddon is one of my favorite albums of all time. Trying to redo it with Matt Barlow was blasphemy.
Great stuff. Now I'm off to watch the priest mythos again!
Razor ever since you recommended glorious burden 2 or 3 4th of July's ago, it's been the most listened to album I ever had & I struggle to remember the last time a man's voice made me well up with patriotic tears. 🤣😭
About damn time you got him on the show, Razor!
Always loved Ripper since the first time I heard him and the new KK's Priest album is unbelievable!
Best interview of ripper ever! Thnk you! Iv been waiting for some1 to interview tim properly . a actual fan and musician got to ask the questions this time.
His cover of Abigail by king diamond kicks ass
Metal Mythos: Running Wild. Make it happen.
'98 Meltdown is Priest's best live album. Glad it got some attention. I wore out the CD's when it was first released.
wow! you actually got that interview. thats crazy. Congratz!
I sincerely hope this becomes a future trend for your channel...more interviews
Time to buy winter's bane albums now
I’m ready for Coffee With Yngwie Malmsteen
Would have been "Coffee and Donuts" but we all know how that would end with Yngwie...
@@GorditoCrunch343
"You unleashed the fockin fury!"
Would like to see him join Metal Church
The Mythos is back! HELL YEAH!
Framing Armageddon is a criminally underrated album.
The title track is one of the best and most brutal things IE has ever done.
I am glad that I stumbled across this video. Now I have a list of some good metal!!
Amazing guy! I bought the Beyond Fear album in 2006 at a festival in Europe!
And 2 years later I saw Ripper Owens with Malmsteen at the same festival!
Still get chills and feel awe whenever I listen to the Meltdown '98 live rendition of "Diamonds and Rust"... I love Rob Halford, but that's Ripper's song now, as far as I'm concerned.
I’m also of the opinion that glorious burden is tim's best album. I fucking loved that album. I put it at the top of iced earth's stuff too.
Glad to hear Tim pointing out his performance on Framing Armageddon because I have always loved the vocals on that album, and easily prefer it over Glorious Burden.
