Thanks so much (from the CEO of Saber) for the support of this game. It really means a lot to us when we can spread positive word of the game to potential gamers. We obviously don’t have the COD budget to blast this out onto football commercials every Sunday so this is how we build community. Super happy that you like the game. A lot of us grew up playing games in a simpler era of gaming and we really wanted to revert to that feeling. It is hard to entirely ignore all the modern trappings (cosmetics help to fund more substantive free content) but we have done the best we can. I know some people feel the game could be longer, and that is in my mind the one criticism we are ok with. It means people are enjoying the content and finishing the campaign. More importantly this is just the beginning for this franchise. We will continue to support and react to player requests. Its been a totally crazy first week thanks to guys like you showing love and support for the game.
Thanks for making this sequel happen. I've been waiting for nearly 13 years to get back in the Rhino with Titus and company For the Emperor. Truly, this game was such a gift to wait for and I am honestly happy with it so far. Can't wait for Horde mode in a future update!

Titus being so straightforward is actually kind of refreshing. Chaplain- “We’re giving you a chance to regain your honor and rejoin the Ultramarines”. Titus- “Cool” Captain- “You’re demoted to Lt., is that a problem” Titus- “No” Some guy- “Wow, you’re not even a born Primaris Marine, and you were in the Death Watch like a dumb baby” Titus- “Yes” My dude is a professional and untrollable.
I really liked how Gadriel immediately apologizes when he realises he's been a dumbass and Titus just goes 'nah it's cool I get it' they're huge brainwashed child soldiers in diapers but damn it they resolve their differences maturely
40k actually is cheaper because there's no rarity element to it, but it's not cheap for sure. Once you have a armies worth of minis you pretty much are done if you want to except for the extremely overpriced codexs and rulebooks.
@@jaredmccain7555 True, but here's the thing. You complete one army then another one catches your eye. Then you hear about AoS and some of those miniatures are just as enticing. (Also, it's hard out here being into both Warhammer and MtG)
describing it as a 360 game in the golden era was perfect. that's exactly how I felt. I told my friend that we haven't had a game like this in awhile and it feels so good to have one again. A lot of it reminds me of gears of war in the 360 days of just pure testosterone and violence but turned up a notch.

Long answer: No game is worth buying day 1 , you are much better off playing an older game that is patched fully featured with all the dlc included in a discount price than buying a game full price day 1 to be a beta tester even if its a great game.
As someone who played the first Space Marine when it came out way back in 2011, it's been a very long wait for a sequel, and I am beyond relieved to hear that the wait was worth it.
I don't know a whole lot of Warhammer lore, but Chaos is literally the driving force main antagonist of the universe, how in The Emperor's name could that be a spoiler? They drop that name ever five seconds in Darktide more often than Jack Garland.
@@UltimaKeyMasteryou should rly get into the lore more it's actually quite good. The point about the whole franchise is.. there is no main antagonist. They are all evil. Chaos, dark eldar, eldar, necrons, tyranids, orks or the imperium itself. They all suck nd rock at the same time. Except the tau, i like the tau
@@UltimaKeyMasterWhile Chaos is one of the greatest threats to the Imperium, calling it "the main antagonist" is an exaggeration, though understandable for someone who's relatively new to the setting. Chaos and the Chaos marines in particular take up a massive portion of the lore, with the entire Horus Heresy series being focused on the origins of the 9 traitor legions, but it is only the "main antagonist" in the way that the Space Marines could be considered the protagonists of Warhammer. Chaos is overrepresented because the Space Marines get more attention than every other faction combined, and Chaos has Space Marines. It could easily be argued that the Necrons are more dangerous, or the Tyranids, or the Orks, or even the Tau. Chaos is one of many threats the Imperium faces, and inquisitors will rant about heretics constantly, but Warhammer is a grimdark universe with an overabundance of horrors capable of destroying worlds and threatening the Imperium, Chaos is merely one of many.
@@itcanbesoo 8-10 hours of campaign with an absolutely amazing story, unlimited hours in the pvp as its very fun, and many more hours in the pve operations mode, 6 missions each mission is 20-30 minutes each with randomized events, 4 difficulties, 6 classes which all have their own perk trees customization unlocks and weapons to lvl up, if im being completely honest here I think wukong is a bit over-rated its just another souls like with amazing graphics (story was mid) and very good gameplay
Titus is the embodiment of the warhammer community. The dude is focused on a goal above all else. His desire to uphold his beliefs and valor in his actions is the communities eternal flame of devotion to the material. There is a reason people who join the community find Kinship almost immediately. For in the grimdark you only have your battle brothers(sisters too)

Warhammer is almost like chaotic corruption, people get a glance, a whisper of the lore, they overhear in internet corners about Warhammer. Then they actively look up and listen to lore. And they soon fall and join the ranks.
When I had a gist of the lore explained to me by someone over the course of 2 hours or so I ended up coming to the conclusion that the T’au were the best (well least bad) faction and he got really mad at me
@@epic3943 He is an idiot that is literally the purpose of the Tau to be the "good" guys to make the bad guys look worse. Tell him about the Necron silent king too and some of their nice dynasties see his mind implode XD
@@epic3943 Which is funny because it's just true by virtue of them being objectively the youngest faction. Their problems mainly come from being such a micro empire that any of the other major players could nuke them from existence if only they weren't so busy taking chunks out of each other. People also seem to have a problem just accepting that the Imperium is blatantly evil because they're the human pov. Literally look at their lore, they lobotomize "criminals" in masse, work their citizens to the bone, a corrupt government to the core, so ignorant and disorganized that they lose technology all the time, their very own beloved Emperor has been used and consequently existed as a tortured living battery for 10,000 years and in all that time not one of his "loyal" subjects has even bothered to try to find a way to save him instead choosing to pray to him as if that's what he wanted. Granted that if you compare this to straight up demon corrupted lunatics that literally eat kids it doesn't look so bad.
No, Charlie! Do not fall into that hole of buying miniatures. You will never see the Sun again if you do. And, for the Emperor's sake, learn to start thinning your paints when you do.
Some people were hoping for more character drama and a more complex story. This is however Space Marine, the protagonists have had their minds purged of most human emotions that aren't HATE, the enemies are mostly incapable of communicating (angry bugs and suits of power armour filled with psychic dust), and your sole mission is to murder the enemies of the Emperor to death as everything spirals into literal actual hell. What else were they expecting? The story is basically the equivilent of a particularly spicy Tuesday in the Life of an Ultramarine.
And while that's what this universe is all about, it's also why the game is getting mixed reviews. People like human-feeling characters, but the entire post of a Space Marine is to have all humanity purged from them in order to fight cosmic horrors, so it comes off as bland or one note to a lot of people not familiar with 40k
@@drpepperman2765 but that human feeling, hate, revenge, anger, brotherhood, suspicion, courage, bravery.... it simply not the sort of human feeling some want, like, love, respect and such, because it's a grimdark universe, they don't have time for this.... not in middle of a tyranid invasion. saying people are unhappy because they don't find what they expect in other universe into this one... is silly, if every game was offering the same experience, what the point? it's like saying i find this action movie lacking human feeling you can find in a drama.... because they are different and are means to be different.
I don't really think that covers for the poor writing though? even the emotions we can see displayed are not well written, characters often randomly acting aggressively or supportive with little to no incentive or reason. Gadriel is basically a cartoonish bastard the entire plot, then has an insane personality change after that one event where it wasn't particularly justified. His arc could have been cool but it was rushed and nonsensical. Chairon's whole purpose in the story is to be... a voice of reason? only for him to then do something really out of character that had no set up before hand because the plot demands it. The captain usually makes the dumbest decisions he can at the time. I'm hoping the PvE coop stuff or the multiplayer are better as the actual SM2 campaign is one of the worst I've played. I was so hyped for this game coming in.

@vaunthe_daun1809 it's rare in the past few years to get a AAA game that's not "cinematic" or "huge and expansive" or some other buzzword. Alot of times I feel like games would be on a much more solid ground if they were just fun
@jameszawislak436 most console people prefer a cinematic experience and how good looking you can make a game look, I mean space marines is fun but it's also a cinematic experience. Warhammer has to be cinematic because it's over the top.
when I got into the lore, I dropped 300 on the know no fear box set and the guides. never touched em though. But I wanted to support the company for the lore.
@wavyhermit5230 The comment is literally making a joke with Charlie buying warhammer figurines. It wasn't talking about the game nor stating an opinion on it. I may just be coming off as aggressive, but i just saw you on other comments calling the game "mid" (in which I objectively disagree).
As a 40k player, the amount of times I felt like I was teleported onto a table and seeing a game of 40k from my models eyes was so amazing. I can't wait to see what's to come with future DLCs.
2:31 I can attest to Co-op being really fun, played through the main game fully co-op from start to finish, was great fun murdering the filthy xenos and feeling the waves of blood cover my face in the name of the Emperor with friends!
1:18 It's so weird to me that what back in the early 2000s was just considered to be the definition of a video game, is today something to be surprised at for actually being made and releasing in this era. This type of game used to be the minimal standard at one time.
@@samtomkatt No, awful games will always exist and will probably be more prevalent with more and more people learning how to make games. That used to be the norm, now it's a rarity.
You are correct, but I have a really hard time believing a GW game isn't inherently a ripoff. They're always insanely short, expensive, and DLC heavy. @@navtektv
It’s because the race for good graphics really slowed down development game . Now when a game comes out and it’s kinda stale gameplay wise the developers take longer to adapt to criticisms because it takes half a decade for a game to come out . Back then ppl actually only cared about improving gameplay elements like combat rpg and other stuff , now they only care about story and graphics and gameplay takes small steps to move forward
Hey Charlie, Target Stores have minis based on the video game in a board game of the same name for $40, that includes Official Games Workshop models of Captain Titus , and several Tyraninid models for him to beat up that if you were to go to any hobby store would cost you a lot more to purchase. You still need to get hobby tools like clippers, glue, paint, etc… but just as a place to start, it’s a great place to start coming from the game take it from a 30 year warhammer veteran who knows the tricks. Keep up the great work
My guy these streamers are just glazing this game like no other, I hated Black Myth Wukong because of the poor optimization but this game even though it has way better optimization by comparison, it's so much worse. You don't feel like a Space Marine in this game, you feel more like a helldiver but 90% of the time you're running around looking for ammo or stims. The Heavy class feels the best and most like an actual space marine. It even does more damage with the sidearm than some of the primary weapons on other classes. The campaign is great, when you're done with that, you have PVE co-op and PVP, the skills are nerfed in Operations mode............not worth the money
I gotta say Im glad I clicked your review. Not even for the game itself but I found it refreshing to see your face rather than some beta test clips on a loop like everyone else. You dont seem scripted and you can tell you are honest and genuinely excited for the game. Appreciate all that and will be back for more reviews in future. Thanks dude!
@@keeferChiefer Nah, way cheaper to do warhammer than a tcg. As long as you aren't going wild making multiples and multiples of armies at least. lol... Gives a solid fun hobby to construct too. Love it. Would love seeing warhammer streams. xD
Playing the campaign co op adds a whole layer of attention to detail you’d never get if you only played solo. For example when Titus is hearing voices you only hear them as Titus and friends playing as the other 2 characters don’t so it seems like Titus (or the person playing them) is losing their mind. They also have their own audial hallucinations that you’d never hear unless playing as P2 or P3 in a friend’s game
As a fan of 40k since age 7, it's so much fun seeing so many new people being introduced to the universe through Space Marine 2, I love watching people asking questions and seeing them realise how deep and cool the lore is
The fact that I had never heard of 40K and I went into the game, I loved that I felt like I was just Thrust into this universe without much exposition. I loved it
"I might even get some of those miniatures!" Imagine showing up to a Warhammer tournament and Charlie pulls up with his Space Marines and kicks your ass.
I feel the thing that made me happiest about this game is that it's not just a good game, but a good game that's complete on release. I paid for a full package, and got a full package. It's sad that's a positive that I feel is worth addressing, but a win is a win.
So is it a hard recommend? Because the only thing that’s putting me off is the lack of content, short campaign, PVP with 3 maps and 6 PvE operations iirc, granted I know they’re adding more in the future, but I wanted to know if it’s good enough to buy now because it looks really fun
@@thespaniard2792 there's a ton of replayability with PvE and PvP, there are 6 classes, both have separate progression, PvE has perks, gun talent trees, different difficulties, enemy spawn variations. I love they dynamically worked not only main story COOP, but also COOP with classes that are fleshed out and unique, giving the players customization while still feeling like part of the story.

I mean more is expected for that kind of money now, an 8 hours campaign is quite short. Especially when you can remove 90% of that campaign and literally nothing would change, it's mostly filler. It's a thinly veiled reason to be in a place killing bugs.
@@bradley6471astrobot is 8 hours to 100% costs more, no extra modes. Resident evil, 5 to 8 hrs, some soso modes. Doom 8 hours, pvp no one plays. Gow 1 to 3 6 hours each, good pvp. So by your own metric, sm2 is way better than all of them.
@@cirescythe astrobot I've never heard of. resident evil is 8 hours for one playthrough, a second is encouraged and supported with a second character and slight differences. Also that game is fucking ancient, less was expected then because of tech limitations. Doom eternal is apparently 15 hours to beat, though that is also a game that well justifies its price through its combat and aesthetic. In fact doom eternal and space marine are very similar in that they're short, primarily aesthetic and combat focused. etc. Except doom eternal has an actually good combat system, levels are mostly non structured so far more replayable. There is no replayability to the SM2 singleplayer campaign, 90% of it is filler. On top of that it is poorly written, it's only genuine saving grace is aesthetic and spectactle... which do not make for replayability. I'd sooner put my balls in a blender then fight imurah's first encounter a second time. The final mission admittedly, is one I might replay again but the rest of the game is a no go.
@@bradley6471lol look at you bending and reaching to justify your preferences. Im talking about the resi remakes. They encourage multiple playthroughs yes. I love running the operations, cause they’re always a little different each time. Like sometimes they just throw a random Carnifex or Lichtor at you and I love it.
I use space marines as military doctrine. They're like a general idea of armored combat infantry. And developing technology around these theorems is very beneficial. The most effective is the Devestator, with a Fusion Beam, and a Storm bolter, and some Sticky Grenades. You could level a building, and repel an infantry and tank attack with one of those. The other favorite is the Assault Squad. Plasma jets for jumping, and 2 power fists, topped with electric spikes... and equipped with a bolter on each wrist, on the outer side.... And a few grenades, can break cohesion of entire units of infantry.
Same here. Was introduced through the Magic X Warhammer Commander Decks and shortly after Darktide was released (which was on my Wishlist since the 1st trailer dropped) Played a bunch of the other games since and listen to lore videos almost every day
@@R3TR0J4Ndude dead space 3 sucked why compare a masterpiece like SM2 to DS3 the game that was so bad it killed the entire franchise. Cmon man the illusions you see in dead space don’t change anything and are mostly in side quests so you can easily miss it. DS3 is ass
I have not seen this level of FREE customization since Halo: Reach. There’s so much customization I feel like I can make my Space Marine look how I want when I want without having to use real life money, no micro transactions, just pure grinding.
People have gotten confused Long games with Good games. Just because a game can be played for 300 hours without no end doesn't mean that alone makes it good, they can be good but generally they aren't. If anything, most open world, 100+ hour games are trashy, McDonalds foods, rare outliers like Elden Ring have corrupted the minds of gamers making them think if a game is below 15 hours it's not worth the money meanwhile they're thinking of a singular game among a sea of Open world slop. I grew up playing these short games, in fact we didn't even call them short games, these were THE games. Of course we had endless or really long grindy games too but generally, these are the games the industry is missing. You knock em out for a good experience, people aren't looking for an experience, they're looking for SOMETHING to waste their life on.
I agree that we dont have enough oneshot story games that just tell a good story and disappear. I dont even think elden ring is a "good" long game. Mechanically it's terrible in nearly every way. During the first playthrough you can trick yourself into thinking it's the player's fault for not understanding the game, but on repeat playthroughs it just sucks. Skyrim and botw are better examples of great long games that shook the industry
But on the other hand are you REALLY going to play a game that’s $50+ for below AT LEAST 5 hours? Yeah it may be good but I don’t think that games are worth it if it’s really short but really expensive
@@connorgray6474 Thats honestly the biggest deal breaker for me. I would normally just buy it, play it and drop it. That being said, if DLC becomes substantial and I got time and cash....
Don't forget, they still need to add the operations mission that is part of the last campaign mission, you know, transference of alignment. Looking forward to that.
4:54 Fun fact: The studio (Saber Interactive) was also the same studio that made war world z, most of there developer team from world war z actually helped out space marines 2's development.

Love seeing you and others get into the Warhammer setting and also looking into the hobby. If you do decide to go down that rabbit hole, would love to see your progress as you do. Hobby TH-cam is awesome as well, so very much recommend looking into the various awesome mini painters, battle report channels, etc. that are out there.
Charlie: If you're going to start playing the tabletop games, I'd highly recommend starting with Kill-Teams or other smaller games before jumping into full 2000 point games. It's easier to narrow down the army and paint scheme you want to use by starting small. I've seen many jump into the hobby with both feet, and they wind up with a mountain of gray shame. They either get burnt out/discouraged from the shear numbers, don't like the army they chose, and/or wind up with a bunch of extra bits they didn't want or need. Some know the army they want to play IMMEDIATELY, and that's great. There are others that have wasted a lot of money, and time. Starting small can alleviate some of the stress and save money.
My dad essentially raised me and my brother on Dawn of War. I remember playing the first Space Marine game in like 2011-2012, I have all of the games on Steam still. It's been a while, so as soon as I saw the new trailer I felt like the Goblin Mask was talking to me.

Checkpoints are plentiful but a SINGLE hormogaunt can remove a whole armor segment. Also you only have two armor segments. Also you get focused by every enemy. I don't know how I managed to beat the whole thing before the official launch. There isn't even an achievment or cosmetic unlock for doing it.

MOIST MARINES
You can tell who the true fans are versus those looking to bash on the emperors will

We have work to do still, brothers.
Vile xenos and cowardly traitors do not take breaks. Vigilance isn't merely necessary, but mandatory.
@@chicog6295 Yeah, in the future we're getting *more* operations and *more* enemy types.
Charlies descent into Warhammer 40k universe would be one for the ages.
May The Emperor protect and guide him.

Same here. Was introduced through the Magic X Warhammer Commander Decks and shortly after Darktide was released (which was on my Wishlist since the 1st trailer dropped)
Played a bunch of the other games since and listen to lore videos almost every day

Back To Back Moist Uploads is crazyyy
This year has had some wild games that came out. From Lethal Company, to Helldivers 2, BMWK, SM2 and Astrobot.
the campaign has some unique dialogue for the second and third squad member. it is peak when you have a party of 3.
It's really fun to see a member talk about having visions while your friend has no idea what you're experiencing.
YEP! more comments has to mention this, its an authentic co-op experience it was reminiscent of Dead Space 3
There’s so much customization I feel like I can make my Space Marine look how I want when I want without having to use real life money, no micro transactions, just pure grinding.
i was surprised to see that too until i saw Thor from PirateSoftware made a video stating he was involved in the customization for the game
@@BearableMonk075 Exactly I’m sure the game game is great but I can’t justify spending $90 CAD after tax on a game that I can beat in 2 sessions.
@@connorgray6474 Thats honestly the biggest deal breaker for me. I would normally just buy it, play it and drop it. But something would feel off, like spending months learning a new skill, just to use it once and never again. I rarely buy AAA's and opt for discounts cuz money. That being said, if DLC becomes substantial and I got time and cash....
Gamers defending a live service game for being short, hilarious.
Tips hat to master. Now your become minis
I'll give you free minis
Don't forget, they still need to add the operations mission that is part of the last campaign mission, you know, transference of alignment. Looking forward to that.
4:54 Fun fact: The studio (Saber Interactive) was also the same studio that made war world z, most of there developer team from world war z actually helped out space marines 2's development.
40K fans are super protective of the ip and demolish stuff they don’t like (after spending big bucks on it lmao) so the positive reception to the game says volumes.

This is equivalent to a resident evil purchase imo. Short and sweet. High replay. Looks amazing and great story.
it doesn't have nearly as much replay as RE games
Charlie:
If you're going to start playing the tabletop games, I'd highly recommend starting with Kill-Teams or other smaller games before jumping into full 2000 point games.
Ah Dawn of War, still play 1 and 2 to this day, masterpieces 💥

One thing i think a lot of people are looking over is that it’s so refreshing to see that you can unlock cosmetics by doing in game challenges. None of that $20 skin bundle BS, it really reminds me of older games where the main focus was to have fun.

Pro tip I just discovered at the end of the game, those piles of green ammo/explosive crates made out of wood you see around can contain items. I just got a stimpack from one after smashing it. The piles are a bit shorter than a space marine usually and often in corners.
lol how do people not know that crates break? it's in so many different games

As someone who beat the game on Angel of Death (highest difficulty in the game)...
Don't do it solo unless you're a masochist.
They do that in normal too. Some of the attacks do not have the blue warning and they still remove an entire armor segment. I feel like only the blue warning attacks should do that much damage, and that it should happen more often. When you get surrounded, it is really hard to get out of the way. Also, fuck chaos minions, they are extremely annoying
