You brought up an interesting point. Not a Shaolin expert, but have done Shotokan and classical arts. What I noticed is that stuff like Shotokan and Boxing's entire foundation is based on 1 or 2 movements. A very specialized, modern approach, which is consistent based on how "professional" people are nowadays in their mindsets. In ancient times, people needed to be self-sufficient. Thus you have more complete systems where you needed to balance between multiple-types of movements. You may not have as much power, efficiency or "speed," but you'll be able to adapt your technique based on the type of technique your opponent throws (or rather, thinks about)

Please tell me something.It is admitted that the Henan temple is not the Shaolin were martial arts was practiced (it was in Fujian).Every body in china historic circle claim now That Bodhidarma came there &taught Chan buddhism &internal energy exercise. It is known that the Fujian temple was burnt by the Qing (mandchus) and that the survivors fled away from China. After the Qing, the europeans, came Mao and his red guards, they killed all the threats including lot of monks, intellectuals etc.
btw is winh chun good ? always wanted to learn REAL wing chun butn dont know how to identify one. Once trained in WC but i found out how useless the wc teachers are within a month i quit. So the question is how to identify a good wc teacher that teach real wing chun fighting. thx man
Some people their make their daily living with performances. Its a skill they choose to excel at. Some students just want to be able to launch their bodies in the air. This is their choice. Some people dont like all the bruises and small fractures. They arnt weak for it. I stick to traditional forms nad fighting. I dont knock those kids in the other room doing their jumps tho. I can if I want to. But I just dont like being upside down and off the ground. Give them their due respect,
the thing is that we don't know that there are thee type of people or not. Theres no solid proof to show these minority number of people exists, if there are ,theres still hope in shaolin kung fu combat fighting styles, at least some saving grace of all the loss that it gone through
actually most people who CAN FIGHT these days do sanda ,not qigong, but the majority i just dont understand is mostly modern wushu, i guess people just like looking nice and cool rather than be able to fight. wow your very lucky to get to learn realcombat styles :( even here in asai where im from there alotof fake china kung fu master form shaolin that teach sanda as fighting (mma seems better) and modern performance wushu which i hate so much, forgive me as i have witness too many shaolin wushu and doubt theres any real shaolin combat styles. i bet there are but its so few till everyone thinks that theres none. So yea good for you man, ill look up kunyu mountain and see whats it about.

Let's be serious , if the shaolin wushu was the circus we can see here and in big shows arround the world why was it a threat for mandcus and red army? Honestly? None of them killed circus memebers of the time or opera actors...
that's why shaolin now is bullshit only fighting they teach is sanda or free fighting even the shaolin coach there said you only go there to train forms etc and if you wanna fight go learn sanda. Only very few shaolin monks like shi de jian are quite ok
I agree fully with julian this guy sucks big time, they picked the worst guy for such a great kung fu style. The shaolin is very good though. As I have been training over 15 years in shaolin.

Beyond the fighting, enjoyed the Qi Gong of the spiral twining and release and the flux between the monks. Similar to Boxing and Shotokan.
