  • The Mojave Desert hides many unbelievable and strange oddities. Things appear, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for them being there. Here are just some of the things we discovered while exploring the arid region of the Mojave.

Ahh...The mysterious Mohave. Many things odd and even, are often found in and around there. Peoples thoughts, dreams and even prospects on life are left there; wasting away in the desert sun. Many soldiers trained out there under some guy named Patton, often you can find things left behind by the troops as a gag. We even found a jeep buried.

@@PinInTheAtlas Many believe that thing up on top of the hill was put there by the soldiers. Megaphone? There used to be another one on top of another knob about a mile or so from that one and they both "looked" at each other. Some say that one platoon could comunticate with another across the desert sand. Sound travels out there. Signals high up are hard to see.. And they were going to Africa. I heard it thru the grapevine.🙂

Great video! We're out that way often. Now we have new things to discover. I was so curious about the megaphone. From google...One theory suggests that the megaphone was used to amplify a siren that alerted locals when the U.S. Army was conducting secret chemical or gas testing in the area.
This idea seems the most likely to me.
Lovely tribute to your brother . I love the thought behind these rocks. I love rocks, so this seems very fitting to me. Thank you for your video and for always being so kind to pick up others rubbish. You are beautiful humans!!

That first location is very nice, but perhaps that box should contain logbooks and items directly related to it's purpose.
    It's quite full.
I suspect that things like the glued item and the "megaphone" are or were enjoyed by the people who created them.
There touch of sculptural posterity and a wonderful enigma for the rest of us.
The rocks of mortality and another tribute to those who "croak".
    Andrea,
I hope you don't consider my comments as detrimental to your heartfelt tribute to you brother.

Hello P.I.T.A. That "Megaphone" I believe is an old air raid siren. In Kansas when I was there every Monday they sound those alarms to make sure they are all working. This one I believe might be one from a long time ago. When in Kindergarten - 1st grade I remember those sirens and we would have to get under our desks. This was in the late 60s. Back then though it was in case we were being attacked by enemies. The pulley at the bottom of that I believe is so that it will rotate as it's sounding. I could be wrong as this is a guess but I bet I am in the ball park. Hopefully someone will correct me or confirm this.

Now I’ve watched and read a bunch of stories about the ‘sentinel enigma’ aka the Mojave Megaphone and I think it’s nothing more than somebody’s having fun psyching people out. Some really fantastic, resourceful artists figured out how to lug that thing up there and install it in a clandestine manner for the world to wonder about. You have to figure, if somebody or bodies wanted to make a statement like that, they’re gonna work out every detail to accomplish it. First, I think it serves no function other than to intrigue us. Now looking at the logistics of it all, that thing was either lugged up there by humans or animals. It was either that or maybe dropped by helicopter. Looking at it, I can see if you split that in half where it looks connected in the middle, I can see maybe 2 to 4 corn fed men could strap one half onto a stretcher type device and hump those two halves up and assemble it there. I figure also they anticipated drilling holes in the rock to secure it so how hard would it be to also lug up a compressor and generator. And like I said, they… and I mean ‘they’ cause there was no way one person did this by themselves, could of maybe used pack animals to get it up there. And I wouldn’t put it past these guys to have it air dropped cause they were serious about their project. I don’t think they’d exactly have to do this in the dead of night either cause after all you are way way way out there in the middle of nowhere and if you time it just right you could get away with doing this whole thing in broad daylight right under people’s noses and nobody would be the wiser. So I think people are really over thinking it and that the sentinel enigma should be appreciated for what it is, a beautiful, mysterious piece of art that’s gonna remain that way cause whomever did this, they ain’t talking. And no, it wasn’t space aliens, either

They were adorable in person, we had never seen them either. We showed Rangers and they told us what they were, but we’re astounded by the amount of them.

The megaphone I see had cross bars welded in it and holes drilled in the side so 12 year old boys couldn't use it for the obvious reason it was built - to launch their model rockets out of! It's a clear case of Gavin Newsom taking the fun out of everything! 😆

You might think your long intro is awesome. And I am sure you put alot of work into it. But I have news for you. Some of us watch for the article and I have a short attention span. I never even got thru your intro before I moved on.

This was absolutely fascinating. Oddities, in most cases backstories, far removed from the outside world, and seemingly respected, for the most part... **Thank you, so much for this informative, entertaining video, Andrea and Steven. 👏🌻💛👏 I think whoever donated that, just wanted to give something back to the desert, either loved by the donor, or in honor of someone else who once did, but wanted no recognition. Other than random visitors, would there be anyone near enough to hear?🤔 🏜
