  • Hack your DNA, and change your destiny. Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR-Cas9 is a gene editing tool that can eradicate diseases, and maybe one day even enhance our looks, personalities, and abilities. How does it do that, and are we ready for it? Host Joshua Lim finds out what conditions he could be passing down to his children with a DNA test, and questions if CRISPR could write them away. He meets some dengue-destroying mosquitoes, and anxiety-relieving vegetables that have been genetically edited with CRISPR. He also finds out why many are still hesitant to adopt this revolutionary biomedical technology. despite its accolades.
    =======================================
    About Why It Matters: Technology is advancing at an unprecedented rate. It is transforming the world we live in faster than ever before. Our inquisitive host Joshua Lim is back on a mission to sniff out the emerging trends and technologies, to ask the questions you have always wanted to ask, and some you have never even thought about.

    • @violetnhz
      @violetnhz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't think that's the same. Designer babies are when you choose the eggs/sperms that have your desired traits - and then they're placed in the mother with IVF. Not quite the same as editing the gene, as much as selecting which one you prefer. (Which is already done with IVF)

    MATTHEW 24:36-44
    The Day and Hour Unknown
    36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[a] but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
    42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

      It is not eugenics. If by “Eugenics” you mean selecting for better genes, I hate to burst your bubble but this has been happening on a global scale with or without CRISPR for billions and billions of years. This is going to be a free market tool , hence in Vivo delivery methods that can Alter a fully grown human should be the focus for future research.

    It may not be a good idea in my opinion due to how a person's psyche may develop if there's some sort of connection between your DNA and brain Consciousness in which their probably is let alone what a person could create due to "gene editing". Fractured, split and cut lines of script sewn together in a way and then if and or how it works. "your super soldiers/person". Creating "A God"... Yeah religion would hit you hard due to this...
