Pretty good stuff! I'm turning 60 soon and have joined a 60+ softball league. This is a bit daunting as I've never played organized baseball or softball because, growing up, there was nobody around who was interested in teaching me the "how" of the game. Thanks to you I am learning HOW to throw a softball. Clearly, I'm one of the "pushers" you talk about but, I see marked improvement in the velocity AND accuracy of my throws (rotating positions between rd, Short & second) which has increased my enjoyment of playing. As an added bonus, the "mechanics" part of your videos has been feeling FAR!!! less ache/pain in my shoulder and elbow the day after the game. Thanks again and I wish your channel great success.

Playing softball at age 72 with 20 years of no playing and now understand why my arm hurts and why I can't get any distance with my throws. Your explanations are very easy to understand and make good sense - thanks very much.

Been dealing with shoulder injuries for a while now and they act up more when I really open up, not when I’m making a routine throw. Didn’t realize why until this video. When I open up my joint angle is well past 90. Thanks for the video.

Glad it’s helped! Angles are a big deal in the motion, so definitely try out the lawnmower drill and square hips drill to help fix it.

I just started back playing softball after years of not throwing. When I throw a few hard throws my elbow becomes really tingly and a bit painful. Is this due to bad throwing technique or improper stretching? What are some stretches you'd recommend to prevent this. Thank you for your time and great video

Hi Cory! I really couldn’t say what’s causing your pain. I’d recommend play catch at a lower intensity more often - build up to 5 days a week throwing to get your arm in shape. There are lots of great drills on my channel to use in your throwing sessions. But going without throwing for years to throwing hard...I’m sure that’s at least part of the reason your elbow didn’t like it.

@@SnapSoftball I have a tournament coming this Saturday so I've been practicing 2 days a week for the past few weeks, but throwing a softball and baseball to me seems a bit different and being out so long maybe I'm not paying attention to my form like a should be. Thank you so much for the reply and I'll be sure to check out more of you channel!

But you aren’t supposed to have the ball or um your hand facing forwards
It’s supposed to face backwards away from your face

It’s not supposed to face backward. That’s old wisdom that has now been proven to be wrong. I didn’t say it has to face forward - the ball should face sideways when the stride is complete. Thanks for commenting and watching!

Bean, you must have watched the 1990s video from the previous UCLA head softball coach Sue Enquist before Kelly Inouye-Perez took over as head coach.
