I really think this is going to turn into one of Jack's favorite anime. It has the right mixture of action and comedy, but it also has these deep wholesome moments that really put you in your feels.
deep fact with no spoiler: the test about who would you chose between ur mother and lover/son and daughter brings that the right answer is silence. this brings the viewer a sense of relief and usually acts like "oh, ok, cool answer and good job author" BUT GON is bringing it to another level. Togashi with gon is trying to make YOU question yourself " what would you REALLY DO in that situation?", that's what gon was doing. Togashi created this situation where gon seems the "dumbest" in that scene, where in reality HE FUCKING MADE A DEEP THOUGHT. Togashi doesn't want u to answer, he wants you to think at that question, cuz it may happen one day.
It's also a clever trap in that the question itself is a false dichotomy. The quiz is words to make you assume that there are only two possible choices, solving it requires you to recognize that there is another option. The point being to encourage the hunters, and by extension the readers, to think outside the box and not just take the world at face value.
If it did happen I'd have to choose my Mum... My Mum has cared for me all my life and, Like one of the characters said, You can't replace your biological Mum

You might not even find another love or not for a long time. The question is highly individual and depends on the individual situation and choosing the Mum is not wrong but I just wanted to also add for you the perspective of the Mum (which of course also is highly individual)

Hxh is so goated, I’ve still never been as obsessed with an anime as I was with hxh my first time watching it. Might feel like a “childish” anime at the beginning, but trust me it’s more mature/dark than most of the other anime you’ve reacted to.
Gon is one of those MCs where I just can't help but feel a sense of happiness watching him on his journey. His purity is a little different than Tanjiro. Tanjiro was tainted from the beginning even though he retained his strong heart, whereas Gon has that pure childish innocence that has not been hardened yet. But they're two of my favorite MCs nonetheless.
There are some moments in this series that I'm interested in seeing how you react. Definitely some truly great moments in Hunter x Hunter. Honestly glad to see you enjoying the series (at least so far).
Man, I forgot how quickly these first few episodes move before getting to the Hunter Exam. But this episode reveals a bit more about our main 3 so far. Leorio: Is a lovable idiot Cares about people Practices medicine and is apparently very good at it Kurapika: Is best guy Has some snark Is both perceptive and a quick thinker Is just badass Is a pretty damn good fighter Gon: Is your typical shounen protagonist. He's almost automatically OP because of his blood, but also wants to try as hard as he can to save everybody possible. Is also extremely perceptive Is hayai For me this second episode lacks the sheer sense of adventure found in the first episode, but it does a good job at continuing to characterize these main 3, and I think this early characterization plays a big factor moving forward. Getting to know the characters quicker makes their journey all the more enjoyable as you get to experience it with them. I'm excited to get closer to the Hunter Exam though, it's almost time for the fan-favorite-but-not-best-guy to show up, though he still is pretty great.

You're picking up on the thematic notes very well. One of the best things about this show is that not everything is as it seems. Also, the characters/relationships are very well developed, and the story never gets boring/one-note. And I particularly love the way HxH deals with complex arguments on morality. The psychology explored in this show is next level as it develops. You don't see that in many other anime. Also, there's a moment in the series where it was shifted to the night slot in Japan. Certain things from the manga are allowed in that slot that weren't allowed in the daytime. You'll probably be able to tell when. :) Edit: Was going to delete this comment, because no one seemed to get anything from it. Instead, I choose to leave a note on this: constructive comments like these are way less popular than "It's fun watching people react to this series. It's a classic." i miss HxH, it is so unfrotunate the author has back pain for 10 yrs and can not write a chapter, Hxh Would have probably ended by now and would ahve lie 300+ episodes in the anime , had so much potential but stopped. HxH Is gonna be one hell of a ride!!! Especially along side OP! If you ever need a shorter anime to fill in some time with, ~Hinomaru Sumo~ is an A1 Underrated anime. It's on the level of Haikyuu! for me, which is also an amazing anime but it's 4 seasons long.
First few episodes of each arc will give you less views, but don't let it stop you,,, it's fanbase is strong, but only for specific arcs and awesome episodes,, which is like more than 70 percent of the total episodes.. just hang in there, we want you to complete it...
Hunter x Hunter and one piece are probably the best animes im terms of the journey and every heart felt moment. The best part about hunter x hunter is the build up, Togashi knew how to build up epic moments in the series

Nah, I definitely wouldn't have passed that test, because it's not really designed to be passed. Nobody without plot armor level thinking and a healthy deal of luck would go with silence as their answer. I don't even understand the purpose of the test, there is no 'right' answer, but there definitely is a wrong answer imo, and that's trying to save nobody, like silence would imply.
I suggest you watch the first episode of 1999 version because there is a Gon flashback with how he knew about his father that's removed in 2011 version
