I really feel like I’m in the same boat. What are your biggest likes and dislikes are far as coming from Sony? I own an 6400 and I really like the image I get but it still feels lacking sometimes. I bought into blackmagic this year and even had an entire rig, but then sold it because it felt too cumbersome. I shoot a lot of video and stills, so I really feel like the XT3 is the best budget hybrid camera for the money. I think it’s going for like $900 now on eBay used
Hey dude! How are you? So the Sony had many strengths for me, namely the small and easy to work with file sizes and the ridiculously good AF. But that was about it... the ergonomics aren't amazing and the battery life is nothing to sing and dance about. The XT3 is definitely a huge step up in terms of video quality, ergonomics and overall fun-ness to use... but that comes at a price.... The XT3 footage is pretty taxing on most computers and I found the workflow to be a little slower with it (until I got the M1 Mac and that thing is a beast!). If your computer can hack it, then defo upgrade to the XT3, dont bother with the XT4 because the IBIS again isn't that great. The XT3 has decent AF performance too - but you will still chew through batteries! Hope this helps dude :D
@@JoshCameron Thanks dude I appreciate it! Well now I’m even reconsidering after watching your S5 videos! That’s seems like the best bang for buck full frame camera on the market for what it offers
I'm considering the Panasonic S5 and the Fujifilm X-T4. I can get the X-T4 for much cheaper than the S5 where I live (the body with a zoom and a prime for about $1000 less). I've watched a lot of your S5 content and it seems amazing, but the X-T4 seems great as well. I do more photography than video. Do you have any thoughts on the two?
I have the Fuji XT3 and the Panasonic S5 (I know the XT3 isn't exactly the XT4 but they're pretty similar). I much prefer the images that come out of the S5 :)
@@JoshCameron I'm hoping when the GH6 comes out it will deliver similarly great images but I won't need to change systems :) if not the S5 may be my next move
I have a Fuji camera and really don't like the top dials as well, but how do you set your camera up so you disable the top dials? I would love to know that as I don't really use mine anyway
I worked full-time as a video producer for 18 years, retiring two years ago. For continuity, we used all dedicated Sony video cameras (XDCAM's) and edited on Final Cut. When I sold the company and all that equipment with it, I totally moved away from Sony for the same reason you mention...ergonomics. Now I have all Panasonic camera equipment and edit on Adobe, which gives the advantage of adding (in addition to Premiere) Light Room, Bridge and After Effects. To its credit, the Sony equipment was extremely reliable. But adding to the annoyance of Sony's ergonomics problem was the fact that they had sold millions upon millions of cameras and STILL had horrible ergonomics. They seemed not to care about the final user. The Panasonic cameras don't have perfect ergonomics but they are a big improvement over Sony. I mostly use my dedicated video cameras (as compared to the SLR types) due to their built-in XLR ports, power zooms and a bunch of smaller items (switches, buttons, dual card slots and so on).
Welcome !!!! Fuji is good when it comes to colors and video codec and high Frame rates but I wish there were some good newer fast primes. Hope sigma start working on them soon so we can have some nice third party glass.
Thanks Ali! To be honest, I haven't even started delving into the lens options for the X Mount. I'm quite happy so far with the 16-55 2.8 but I think my first prime will either be a 30-35mm or a super wide...
I don’t think this was a fair comparison giving the price difference between the Fuji and the A6400. I would be interested to hear your opinion of the Fuji xt3 vs the A7III or even the A7C.
Isn’t the price difference (at least using msrp) between the xt3 and the a7iii greater than the a6400 though? Xt3 - a6400 = $200 difference Xt3 - a7c = $300 Xt3 - a7iii = $500 The a6400 comparison actually looks the most fair in terms of price.
I already had the Panasonic S5 and I did think about buying another, but it would have been a lot more expensive since that camera is £1899 and I got my Fuji XT3 second hand for around £750. Plus L Mount lenses are way more expensive than Fuji lenses, and at this point in time I wanted to try out something new !
@@JoshCameron Fuji do have a loyal following. I use both systems. Although the Fuji is a great camera to shoot I just could'nt do without the full frame Sony's for architecture/interiors.
Hey Steve! Thanks for the comment - glad we're in the same boat haha! I use both the S5 and the Fuji XT3 for everything now. To be honest with you, I use the S5 more than the Fuji just because I love it so much!
I also use a grip on my X-T4. However, yesterday I was at the camera store contemplating buying the 100-400 and they gave me an X-T4 body to try it out with, and I realized that the slim body is actually pretty damn ergonomic. You can get a nice pincer grip and the thumb falls right on the AF-On button perfectly.
Hmm that’s interesting - maybe I just need to feel it out a little more. I think the biggest thing for me was going from my Panasonic S5 (of which has a beefy grip) to the piddly grip of the XT3 😂 I think it might be quite nice with that little thumb grip cold shoe adapter though!
I chose the Xt3 over the XT4 purely because the updated improvements weren't necessary for what I do on a day to day basis. The XT3 used price here in the UK is around £700-£800 meaning I could focus more on lens investment (which for me is more important!) Hope this answers your question :D
Good balanced review, I guess all cameras have some compromises, it comes down to whether or not we can live with them. So if you could have only one camera, would it be the S5 or X-T3? I'm looking at both, I'm not a pro like you and not one for colour grading (SOOC Fuji film simulations), however my daughter is a horse rider doing show jumping in badly lit indoor arenas (full frame sensor would be great). Both of these systems seem good enough. How is the Panasonic SOOC?
Hey! Thanks for your comment and for watching this video :) Glad you enjoyed it! So, if I had to choose between the Fuji XT3 and the S5, I would definitely pick the S5. It's far better for my professional video work and the colours are super accurate and true to life. The lowlight performance is very impressive and it's just such a joy to use. HOWEVER, I wouldn't discount the XT3 just yet. If you're not a professional and are looking for something that's fun and easy to get great results with, then it's superb. It's not the best in lowlight (but still not bad either), and the lens options for the X Mount are far cheaper since it's a cropped sensor. It's honestly about weighing up what you actually need from your camera. I feel like the Panasonic S5 would be better for longevity if you are planning on doing more photo/video stuff further down the line. The JPEG's from the S5 are also very pleasing to the eye as well so it would be fine for those time where you don't want to edit anything. To round up my opinions on this - i'll leave you with this: I think of my Panasonic S5 as my workhorse/main camera that i'll normally pick up first over any other camera I own The Fuji for me is a 'fun' camera that's great for days out with friends/family and occasionally gets used for professional stuff. Hope this help!
@@JoshCameron personally I went for the xe4. I like the option of being able to change lenses and yes, they are fun little cameras. Good luck on your future endeavours.
Sound to me like you need more time learning photography than worrying about gear. If you don't know the difference between simulations and then complain about them after taking the shot...the camera shows you exactly how the photos are going to look. You should of stuck with Sony or got a level XT30.
Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, you're misunderstanding the points made about the film simulations in-camera. Of course I know the difference between the simulations, I never said once that I couldn't tell the difference? I was merely saying that particular simulations aren't suitable for some applications - which is an extremely fair point. In order to fully test a camera, I always try all the settings in different scenarios to see what work best - and that's where I was coming from when I said that I wasn't happy with some of the results. I also don't feel the need to prove my knowledge of photography to you since your comment comes from a place of misunderstanding and unnecessary anger, but I'm happy if your comment allowed you to get rid of some steam if you needed that. Thanks for watching anyhow and have a great day!
@@JoshCameron I'm just saying the simulations are based on actual film. If you knew the difference between the old school film you would know that cert film was made for different scenarios like one for example Portraits vs landscapes. Not saying you cant use one for a different reason if you were trying to go for a different look but the name and the history of them kind of let you know what it was designed for.
If you would have actually explained your point that way in the first place then I would've completely agreed and understood your point! I'm very aware that the simulations are based on the old fuji film stocks, hence why some don't look right in certain scenarios - but the beauty of digital is that the number of exposures you can take is endless, so why not push them all and see their limits? In some cases, I found the Pro. Neg Std and Astia (both meant to be great for skin tones) to be inaccurate for portraits, and that's why I mention why white balance and lighting is paramount. Of course, we're talking about SOOC JPEG's here, so i'm viewing it from the position of someone who doesn't want to do any editing to the images. BUT, when using the simulations in LR with the RAWs... That's when I really understood how beautiful each simulation could be
@@JoshCameron that's weird because I don't usually have to set the white balance unless I'm inside with different conflicting light. The Auto WB has been the best out of the Nikon/Canon/Sony cameras I've owned.
I like to set daylight WB when i'm outside or cloudy WB depending on the day since I like the starting point to be the exact same when I go into editing. This was probably the mistake I made when I first used the camera after coming from a workflow where I always edited my images, but I have to say that the Auto WB does work quite well for the most part. Although sometimes I get a slightly pinkish cast on my skintones when I shoot JPEG with auto WB on the fuji

Dont sleep on the fuji f2 trio. Super fun and compact.I have the 23 35 and 50 for my xt4 and theyre tons of fun, and great for photo and video.
Hey John, Thanks for the advice! I'll defo look into these!
Hi Josh, loved your videos. Can you share the link where you got those wooden like grip?
You would like the X-S10 for the controls
Yeah that camera looks pretty great for the price... the body is just a bit too small for me though!
Welcome aboard!
Haha thanks Albert!
Look into the xh2 if you’re not a fan of the top dials of the xt series
Disabling top dials?!.. Ice cold, man, ice cold...
hahaha!
I use the small ft button for focus vs the small AF-on button on the XT3 when I am not using the shutter button
That’s cool, never thought of using it like that!
It is really a hassel to sell one system and go into another system. Unless there is a really big jump in quality from your previous system.
I agree - it's a massive pain in the ass haha!
Did you ditch Fuji stay with Panasonic?
I did indeed - Panasonic is all I use now :)
Hi, have you tried the XS10? I think its the camera for you.
@@JoshCameron I'm hoping when the GH6 comes out it will deliver similarly great images but I won't need to change systems :) if not the S5 may be my next move
why did you not find the s5 lumix suficent?
I do, that's why I've now sold the Xt3!
@@JoshCameron ok! Got ya!
I have a Fuji camera and really don't like the top dials as well, but how do you set your camera up so you disable the top dials? I would love to know that as I don't really use mine anyway
You just set the shutter dial to T and the ISO to A, and then you can configure the front and back dials to control SS and ISO 🙌🏼
Haha Hi John! Had this same convo with you on FB :) Based on the current price of both cameras in the UK!
Isn’t the price difference (at least using msrp) between the xt3 and the a7iii greater than the a6400 though?
Xt3 - a6400 = $200 difference
Xt3 - a7c = $300
Xt3 - a7iii = $500
The a6400 comparison actually looks the most fair in terms of price.
@@buddyWalrus You could also add the lens in the calculation :)
@@carjac820 the op didn’t mention lenses, so neither did I
Thanks for video. I’m curious, why didn’t you buy the S5 over the Fuji?
I already had the Panasonic S5 and I did think about buying another, but it would have been a lot more expensive since that camera is £1899 and I got my Fuji XT3 second hand for around £750. Plus L Mount lenses are way more expensive than Fuji lenses, and at this point in time I wanted to try out something new !
Do you think Fuji is better color science than Canon?
So, main reason for the swop was Fuji looks cooler?
Not at all - more so for user experience, colours and the fact that Fuji owners swear by their cameras. I wanted to see what the fuss was about :)
@@JoshCameron Fuji do have a loyal following. I use both systems. Although the Fuji is a great camera to shoot I just could'nt do without the full frame Sony's for architecture/interiors.
Yeah I get that! My FF Panasonic is never too far from reach for me either !
I m total opposite lol I still keep my xt3 and xt4 but I love my A7c and A7RIII more
Now add 35mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 hahaha. They are two of magical fuji lenses.
Haha noted! Can't wait to get my hands on more glass for the X Mount System :)
You sold all your Sony which is literally what I've just done.... Thinking of going to the s5, you still shoot with the lumix s5 aswell as fuji?
Hey Steve! Thanks for the comment - glad we're in the same boat haha! I use both the S5 and the Fuji XT3 for everything now. To be honest with you, I use the S5 more than the Fuji just because I love it so much!
@@JoshCameron you have any samples from the S5 out there.....love to see the quality
@@stevebarns3021 I do not unfortunately, however feel free to send me an email at josh@feedmecontent.com and I can send you over a few bits!
Why choose xt3 instead xt4
To round up my opinions on this - i'll leave you with this:
I think of my Panasonic S5 as my workhorse/main camera that i'll normally pick up first over any other camera I own
The Fuji for me is a 'fun' camera that's great for days out with friends/family and occasionally gets used for professional stuff.
Hope this help!
I'm going to say it wasn't based on the videos you've post after the trade... None regarding your xt-3
The XT-3 Was great for my 'fun' camera, although it's now been replaced with the X100F :)
@@JoshCameron personally I went for the xe4. I like the option of being able to change lenses and yes, they are fun little cameras.
Good luck on your future endeavours.
Ill never betray sony again
Why is this comment section so damn toxic? Holy moly.
Yeah man people are heated for no reason hahaha!
Sony has no soul.
It’s a freaking tool, bro! Did you ask yourself if a screwdriver has a “soul”?
Who care
Not you by the sounds of it 😂
