The cabin just needs a really good cleaning and it would be good to go I would invest the time in cleaning it and making a vacation getaway a little work never hurts to put a little TLC in to the place you could really make it look great

Older airstream are highly collectable in the lower 48 at any condition. Do yourself a favor a research it.

My husband and I sold a 1979 airstream in Indiana with problems got 5 thousand dollars for it!
The Airstream looks repairable, and as these comments say, it is popular among collectors. Refinished it could be a unique experience for tourists and your family.
That Airstream is a piece of gold. It can be fixed up and sold or kept as a guest place for who ever!! Always nice to keep something like that because they were built so well!!

Word to the wise tear it down. Years ago me and my family lived in a mobile home that had mold behind the fridge that we could not see initially. Well to make a long story short my wife developed walking pneumonia followed by asthma and has had problems ever since. You have a beautiful wife and baby don't let them ever go in there again just tear it down it's not worth it. Don't play with mold the mold is going to win. Great video!

Completely agree. Not worth risking health of your little one and family. I know friends whom have passed away here in the UK England, in houses with hidden damp damage and mould. Would be cheaper to pull it down and start over instead of doing up to make it livable. Incredible adventure and land though. Huge congrats xx

@@GoodLivingAlaska To Airstream restorers, they are worth a LOT. With one having good bones, good outdoor siding, I think they are worth about 5K and up. The buyer will have to take it "as is", and haul it off on their own dime.

My late husband and I lived in an old airstream like that..the property looks like it was someone's dream that never was completed. You could fix up the airstream for a rbnb. Can't wait to see the rest. I've always wanted to go to Alaska.

It looks completely restorable it's metal frame. Practically got it already. You wouldn't have to do it tomorrow, but it looks completely restorable in a way that would make it just amazing. And there are groups online where they have completely redone old rotted out places and made them gorgeous. And the house from the outside looks good too. Take a lot of elbow grease to fix it up. But looks like you got yourself a heck of a deal.

You found gold, The Airstream has a huge following. Repair, refinish wouldn't cost much as it is 100 percent wrapped under and around in full aluminum. No other trailer is built like these. The sloppy wear and tear can be cleaned and repaired. Repaired they fetch 17-40k probably the most profit on the property investment.

Due to the mole, decay, structural issues, strip it bare of the things that can be used, and tear it down. You might be able to salvage some lumber out of it, if even only for firewood. Sometimes it is easier to begin a new than to try and fix someone elses mistakes, and generally cheaper too. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

New sub. Looks like a great beginning with the infrastructure already in place. It will be great to see the property in the summer. If it was me I'd strip the structure down to the studs stripping the roof, flooring and siding of all the rotted OSB and scrap the exterior staircase and build one inside using materials sourced from the property. It definitely has lots of potential. By the way the trailer is an Airstream probably 60's or maybe even 50's. They have value to collectors but as it sits with some repair it would be a great dry storage or even a place for a guest to bed down. Good luck with this project.

I know what that feels like. My mom sold her family property right out from under my sister and I. Doing ancestry research, I discovered her ancestors left 11 generations of Earldom in Scotland to help settle Virginia, before it was divided. They helped settle Ritchie County.
I'm not really that mad, the property was almost 3 hours away. It was just my place away from home, I used to go frequently, have a hoagie, water, and cigar. It was so secluded I could get changed into shorts in the middle of the property and no one saw a thing because it was surrounded by trees. There was a lot of overgrowth and rattlesnakes that I came very close to one day and luckily was not bit, but I was very close... It takes half an hour to get up the mountain... so while it was nice, we never really visited as much as it was worth.
The only problem was we were told as kids that we would get the property and can bring our own kids, and now that I'm 31 I see that future being more realistic and now it is not an option :(
Another thing is our memories are there. The very first powerwheels I had was still up there.
That old camper is mint, definitely worth passing on to someone, they're worth money even in that condition

So many people dream of off grid living in Alaska and don’t make it to long some of my family moved out there in the 70s and are still there and the family has grown so much I don’t even know how many there are now came from Oklahoma

I have just started watching your channel. Just saying i have seen people in lower 48 take airstreams like that a mess, take their tim completely redo it, and it was worth a mint. I wouldnt trash it for sure!
Lot of work to be done on apl your stuff but you have a lot of potential and for a young couple with a vision and determination, you could have a dream place. Not sure if your from here, but the babies skin on legs should always be covered.

There are collectors that will pay top dollar for that Ole gal! Also, it looks like you may have an antique in the living room, the wooden "thing" not sure if it's a hearth or what ,its against the wall. I'd have it looked at. You can have many things appraised online with photos. How fun! Can't wait to see more! sCARY.. I would sell everything and demo the house. That Airstream is worth a lot of money even in that condition. After selling everything you might recover your cost of this property. Bravo to you both for having the courage to purchase this property.

What a fun video. It’s great to hear about how you all evolved to live in Alaska. Alaska is a state I’ve never visited. I know from living in ND that, or at least for me, you acclimate to the cold temps. I was an avid skier and runner among other sports but living in Northern CA we’re pretty wimpy when it comes to the cold. I’m less than 25 minutes from the ocean. But I have dreamed about living in Alaska because I know it’s one of last real free states. My state has beaches and beauty but it’s because a really polarizing landscape overall so…

Girl your husband started looking like he was going down in that little crawl space and all I could think was no no no don't go down there lol. Looks like a ton of work. But the land has so much potential. I get it will be so gorgeous there once spring and summer come.

There a couple campers made like that one, all are worth fixing up. Biggest reason is the outer shells are aluminum, and don't rust or leak. I'd gut it, re-do it and use it for a place to stay while you ix the cabin. I'd gut it, and re-do all the plumbing and the wiring for sure. Fix the bad parts of the roof, add some exterior insulation and some siding, and after rough in of wiring and plumbing, just fix one room at a time. Of all of it, the moisture in the crawlspace would be my biggest concern. But over time, it can be made really nice, lot's of TH-cam content if you are DIY'ers.

I am an older guy that just doesn't seem to understand the searching aspect to the internet. I would love to find a situation much like yours but I haven't got the slightest clue as to going about it, where to look, who to ask?? I have tried writing to many channels where they are living off grid. They never respond and it seems like it's a secret only they want to have? You could maybe also talk to a realtor and tell them what you are looking for. Hope this helps a little. Alaska is a little different bc there are more properties like the one we purchased than other states.

I'd say he is pretty brave going down into that crawl space and messing with the
Airstream, boat, 2 trailers and the fireplace as well as other things could all be sold and pure profit..might help with whatever your plans are. With power you may be much closer to
a town/city than I thought.

Hi gang. Did you go sight unseen? Someone would actually buy that Airstream and restore it. Some of those push and even go over the 100K mark brand new. You got a boat included in the deal. If there was only a ‘69 Mustang on the property also. Where is this actually located? How many acres? Use crawl space as a wine cellar.🤔 That place you should tear it down and get something from scratch all your own. I wanted to see upstairs. Would love there permanently? Thanks for taking us along. Vintage Airstreams are really valuable. Don't junk it. There's a huge market for trailers like the one you have, despite its current condition. There are original parts inside (such as the vanity) that are no longer available and are worth good money to people who restore them. Do a little research on it. You'll see you're sitting on a little goldmine. Congrats 👏

100% agree. As soon as I saw the Airstream that's the first thing I thought of. Those are what people want now and folks will pay a lot of moolah just to get their hands on one. Don't toss it (coz that would be a shame) but at least sell it and focus on what is the priority for the property. IMO..... but nobody ever listens to me anyway lol

Wiring is easy once you understand the basics not even something to be concerned about general into something like that you just got it all out and start over that way you know what you’ve got eliminate any problems. Mold can be treated in that small little bedroom behind the kitchen, but that situation because the cabin need so much other interior work. I would just got out the entire interior come in frame, new walls and re-sheet rock everything. As I said, in my previous, I will make a really good caregivers cabin rock, off-season food storage and processing building.

I have an Airstream similar to yours it's a 1966 I got admirer stream and revamp the whole inside of it. To live in until I got my cabin built. Now I use it for storage. They are worth more because the outside is totally aluminum. The cabin on the other hand I would definitely tear it down and build a nice cabin there. Well it looks like you did good. Lovely property.I think the cabin looks a bit gloomy but there’s potential.I would extent the top and have access from inside downstairs.Sit and draw out some ideas now you have seen the place.i think it could be a really attractive home with work,probably cost a lot less than a new build.I think it’s a wonderful place to ring your little one up,and I take it you want to be self sufficient to a degree too as well..your both young and it’s an exciting future for you.Better than living in a tiny flat in the U.K. .If I was 39 odd yrs younger and had a chance like this I would have loved it.But in a bit warmer area ,that looked really cold out there ..Love n Light 🥰

That Airstream can be cleaned out. You can make it a livable place fairly quickly, or you can use it to store the furniture worth keeping. Then you can renovate and redesign the house.
