HBO MAX. No question. I still have Netflix but I don't use it as often as I did a couple years ago. The streaming landscape is changing and I honestly find more value with HBO MAX than I do with Netflix.
There's more that I want to watch on HBO Max. And I like that WB is releasing its movies concurrently on HBO Max and in theatres without any extra prices like Disney+.
You said it, Quality over quantity. Netflix is like going to the Cheescake Factory. HBO Max is like going to a place where the menu has the head Chef’s name on it.
Netflix still has a DVD/Blu-Ray-by-mail service. It has almost everything ever put on disc. Better Call Saul s5 is there, but it’s still not streaming anywhere. As long as you exchange at least a few discs/month, it’s cheaper than iTunes/Google Play for the stuff u miss by not having every service.
I'm honestly gonna feel sorry for Netflix in about 2 years. By that time pretty much everything will be exclusive content and all Netflix will have is there original content because they aren't a studio. Some people have a streaming service just for original content. Some have it for classic shows and movies and Netflix won't have any of that studio content. The original content is just a bonus in my opinion. This is honestly why I believe Netflix will be bought by a studio just like Disney bought hulu.

I've had HBO Max since it came out on Roku back in December, and after using the service for over 4 months I've definitely watched more of its content than I've ever watched with Netflix in similar time period. The only other service that compares to usage is The Criterion Channel. For me the reason is simple, I'm movie centric, a real cinephile....much more movie centric content of both quantity and quality for Max vs Netflix. Movie titles on Max are so good and numerous that I can't see going back to Netflix any time soon, or at least until season 4 of Ozark appears. I mean, Max offers a nice selection of classics from Criterion (found in International tab) and TCM, in addition to their huge regular catalog. After my 6 month subscription of Max ends in June, I'll cancel and go back to Criterion Channel for a few months, then back to Max as newly arrived titles will lure me, and vice versa. Mostly bye bye for me with Netflix, save for Ozark 4.
I find Netflix content more geared towards women and kids. I mean, just look at their top 10 list. It’s always some bs a woman or a toddler would watch. Now, HBO Max is where it’s at!
I dropped Netflix and got HBOmax but I haven't been completely dazzled. The interface isn't great on my tv, my plan is to keep HBO for about 3 months then switch back to Netflix and go back and forth. Should be new stuff available on both that way.

At least you guys have HBO Max - I’m desperate to get it but it won’t come to the UK until at least 2025 when their existing deal with Sky comes to an end. I wish we had it now but at least we’re finally getting Paramount+ so that will do for now at least.
Honestly if I had to pay full price I probably wouldn't pay for either one, at least not full time. I have T-Mobile so I only pay $7 for Netflix's top plan and my sister works for a cable company so I get HBO Max for free. Don't get me wrong I like both just not enough to pay full price year round. The only time of year I would actually pay for HBO would be from the end of July and August when Hard Knocks was on but other than Friends (which can be recorded on TBS) none of those show you listed on HBO Max mean anything to me and I have NEVER watched one second of Game of Thrones. Netflix does offer a lot of documentaries and stand up specials.
Netflix has like 20 true crime shows to watch on total. You could watch those in a month. The same goes for every other catagory. Netflix is boring at least to me.
It’s a matter of personal preferences. I prefer Netflix. They have a lot of content from different countries as well. I like hbomax, but I’m not 100% impressed with it.
I'm on the HBO Max side. Now I will admit I'm waiting on HBO Max to get there long promised with ads supported plan because I love HBO Max particularly because I'm a huge DC fan so all the DC universe stuff I'm right there but 14 bucks a month yeah it's a bit of sacrifice and there's the thing that I actually have a rather slow internet connection so I can only get the stuff that's actually in standard definition all the 4K content won't even play on my television because my connection is so slow. That's actually one of the advantages with Netflix I can actually see just about anything on Netflix without any buffering only problem is all my must see television shows are ending this season and I don't even know when they're coming back to finish out their run, as I keep saying I'm waiting for atypical and Lost in space anybody know when they're coming? I'm not getting a clear defined date anywhere for these two shows
I'm not downing on HBO at all, HBO Max is pretty nice when it comes down to its release theater titles. But HBO Max needs to jump on the 4K and Dolby Atmos bandwagon with it's other titles. Literally the only thing that's in 4k is the theater release titles. Everything else is HD. So I currently just have both.
All their originals is why I quit them for Max. Tons of cookie cutter original moves, the quality is missing for vast majority. They're trying to introduce too much new content and are missing out on the quality part of equation. Really good movies are hard to make and relatively rare. So many good old films to watch on Max, many I've never seen.....French New Wave films, Godard, Bergman, Fellini, Antonioni, Rohmer, Kurosawa, Truffaut, Trakovsky, etc, etc.
HBO not on enough streaming devices Roku are Firestick , no 4k HDR available I guess HBO didn’t spend enough money Netflix will stay on top until HBO can catch up .
WOW still charging for regular HD? this isn't 1999 anymore! with everyone pulling down their content to make their own service netflix really needs to drop their prices! with hbo i dont think you get their complete catalog, more just a pureed selection THEY want you to see.
The 9.99 HBO Max is decent. But I didn't get Wonder Woman or Cry Macho. But I like it. However, no live channels. Netflix is better is some ways. The 9.99 is in HD I read. But not 4K.
HBO Max is lacking original content and new content. Plus it's not available everywhere like Netflix. So yeah Netflix wins because it has something for everyone and has it by the boatload. They keep winning awards and are the most talked about then any other streaming service.

I think Netflix wins for quantity, they have so many collections coming from different countries around the world, some are gems and some others are trash while HBO Max wins over quality. Even if you compare Netflix best of the best series it won't still match the battle with HBO Best series.

HBO Max has removed the old Scooby-Doo series and the classic Tom And Jerry cartoons off it's streaming service. That is disappointing to me.

I use a 4K streaming device on Netflix and pay 9.99 a month. I get a beautiful picture.
HBO Max wins over Netflix for me. I find myself logging into HBO Max more and more now a days . HBO Max TV content alone is worth the monthly price
