I was pretty excited to see Yoruichi take on Askin during the final arc of Bleach, but her ultimate Shunko technique wasn't what I was expecting at all... Yoruichi's final appearance in the manga was something of a strange one... She showcased an awesome new transformation, but at what cost? Let's discuss, and let me know what you think of her power-up!
More than not this incident showed to what lengths Kisuke is willing to go to win, but ironically it didn't really work since Askin's gift ball put them all near death and only Grimmjow's sudden brute force did the trick. I can see why Yoruichi herself isn't a a fan of this power with it's unpredictability and robbing all reason.

@@manuelacosta9463 I like to think the power of that form is so great that she loses her sense of self. Like zaraki with his bankai. I wish more of her was covered in the lightning fur to act similar to armor. Like old man yamas bankai, but with lightning.

19:00 I think that’s probably why she hates it, it is a super powerful skill but kinda like kenpachi when he uses his banki she also loses control of herself and she like most people hate that feeling of not been in control of what’s going on only for her it’s not just a feeling of not been in control she actually stops been in control of her own body but is probably still fully aware of what’s going on and likely cringing at going to sleep like a house cat in Kisuke’s lap.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the next time we see Kisuke after this he has a massive black eye.
I'd love to see her fully controlling that ability or maybe getting more comfortable to use it on her own accord, since it's not really just an amp, it's also like a specific counter to Askin

would have preferred if she had reluctantly used her Zanpakutou not because she is stronger with it but because it would have some kind of ability that could counter askinn. That would have been a cool wy of revealing her Zanpakutou while still saying, "its just for this fight, shunko is still her main power that she uses"
I would have preferred a flash back to why she doesn't use her zanpakuto and how she developed this fighting style

every good guy zanpakutou miraculously countering the enemy's zanpakutou in the final fights is literally the worst aspect of this arc... 😂

I don't like Yoruichi losing her agency either but it makes sense that Kisuke would do this. Ultimately, he's for the Soul Society even at the expense of his allies and more.

To be honest, Kubo turned up the "fan service" in the whole last arc. Orihime's new outfit. Yoruichi sticking her hand in the middle of Orihimes cleavage. The Kirinji bath scene. Bambi is implied to of "had her way" with 1 of the Soldat soilders before literally splitting him in 2. Candace Catnip's whole outfit. Heck we even see Masaki topless in the everything but the rain arc. I'm not sure if I am more shocked that it got thru approval as I might be more impressed Kubo had the balls to even try it.
Honestly I think Kubo was just having a little fun with the "fan service". Yeah we see inklings of it before like with Haribel, Nel, and Rangiku in the Arrancar arc, but he certainly turned up the mature theme in the last arc.
At that time of his life, he was under great stress. His shoulder was busted, he was sick every week with flu, while shounen jump was forcing him to wrap the series quickly, so i don't mind him enjoying himself by drawing lewd stuff, he is human after all.
I figured he turned up the notch cuz the anime was “cancelled” at the time, so he just went ham on the service, blood, guts, gore and such cuz it WASNT gunna get animated, so who cares about censorship? I mean…. NOW the anime is coming back and DAMN I hope they don’t censor the stuff that matters. PEOPLE BETTER LOSE SOME LIMBS AND BYAKUYA BETTER BE “spoiler avoided”

Couldn't we also potentially get something out of this final form as an inverse to the cat form that she was introduced in? Case in point, we are introduced to her as a cat with intellect far greater than that of a normal cat, despite her possessing relatively normal physical abilities for a cat. In this final form, she is presented in almost a perfectly reversed way. She's humanoid with extreme physical capabilities, but she in turn loses her mental sharpness. Because she was willing to exist in her regular cat form for a while but finds the final form to be appalling in light of this inverse relationship is pretty interesting.
She calls it half cooked which tells us that she was working on the form but didn't perfect it yet

@@Maodifi Cuz he didn’t have the time to. The ending of the manga was rushed due to no fault of his. I’m sure there was a lot more he wanted to expand upon. Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll have more freedom to explain/tie things up in the anime adaptation, but right now I’m just happy we’re getting more anime and more than likely another manga arc.
When it comes to Kubo, his first priority has always been to make everyone look cool as fuck, even if it means pushing the logic of the story, ability, or character. I already know the TYBW character designs are gonna be SO marketable with merchandise, from the different Toshiro forms ( Hollowfied bankai, Zombie Quincy, adult) Bankai Rukia, and of course this ;)
The last arc went full jojo with the abilities and has a jojo fan it was awesome.
If Kubo just abandoned efforts at trying to write anything deep and simply made the TYBW a big and brainless slugfest, I think it would have been an improvement.
Toshiro has like 5 forms in the final arc and they're all gonna sell like hell
preach. Unpopular opinion: He's mediocre at everything a mangaka needs to be good at. Kubo is a great concept artist with a mad eye for aesthetics and design and that's it.

I actually love that her weapon, in her opinion, makes her weaker.
Do people just not understand that your weapon is determined by your identity - not your fighting style. Soifon, Hisagi and Ichigo come across as three obvious characters who, for a time, felt they were weaker, or that it didn't their fighting style, or that it was a betrayal of themselves.
Remember it's the characters themselves who are stating this about their abilities. They have their own opinions on their abilities. I don't think it's wrong to go by any of these assumptions when pertaining to her character.

@@Crunchysopa52 Exactly, but what I'm saying is that it's possible Yoruichi does not accept that side to herself. She is not a perfect person, after all.
Another example I could use is Matsumoto who has a poor relationship with her zanpukuto. She could be much more powerful or versatile upon bettering her relationship with her zanpukuto spirit - this is seen with characters like Ichigo and Zaraki who benefit immensely from their relationships with their zanpukuto.
There could be many reasons within Bleach lore on why Yoruichi could be weaker with her zanpukuto than without.
@@MichaelisBLee-nw8wy ya I feel you + knew what you mean there. personally she doesn't dig it but hey it's still a manifestation of her soul & well represents a part of her, be it in the subconscious that she doesn't like, but it's still reality. the whole Ichigo "the blade is me" is really accepting n connecting with that side of yourself & will surely make you stronger.. no? I mean ya think of Hisagi, Rangiku, Yumichika etc that all have personal issues w/their zanpakuto's lol. but it's really just a part of them they don't like or are in denial of.

But that's besides the point really. It's not Tite Kubo or some other narrator telling us she'd be weaker. She, herself, believes herself to be weaker.
Just as Ichigo believed himself to be a monster when accepting White Zangetsu's help in battle, Yoruichi may “believe” herself to be weaker. It's very important we take into account who our narrator is, and in this case, it's her.
But I must agree with you though. Even if it makes her weaker, at the very least her zanpukuto must at least offer her more options in combat.
But I suppose we'll never know for certain. Even my own opinions on the matter aren't facts. They're only speculation.
@@MichaelisBLee-nw8wy tbh this is my headcannon but I feel deep down she knows the amp it'd give her is undeniable, especially considering her bankai too b/c hey.. she's a former Capt n must had to have mastered 1 right, but plain doesn't like it changing her fighting style so much. she likes to be in control & wants to win HER way.. if not just like Ikkaku in that he would rather be petty, to even die, & not pull his bankai out if other shinigami might see it etc lol. these shinigamis have a lotta pride & like you said, aren't perfect. heck far from it right lol so ya I dig this aspect.
I've always seen the lightning cat form as something Yoruichi achieved through her Shunko training, but, while incredibly powerful, it was far too volatile and impractical to use in battle.
So, to prevent herself from ever using it, she asked Urahara to seal that form under hypnotism (hence why he has that sign gag, it's him undoing the mental lock, ala Unohana vs Zaraki) and from there she further trained and achieved a weaker, but more manageable form, the drums one.

Maybe the drums and cat form where unleashed by urahara because he's the master of development and research and had some sort of magical spell or seal hypnotism like you said 🤔

This transformation was surely made just for Kubo's amusement, plus fanservice (TYBW is full of fanservice everywhere).
But if I had to make logic of it, I would say that she sacrifices her "sapiency" for more power/speed (which is pretty clear by the way Kubo draws her fight). And although situational, being feral and acting 100% on instinct could be handy some times: you don't hesitate, you don't guess, you don't make strategies that could be predicted, you simply attack viciously and randomly. Put that with the power boost she gains, and I can see why this is a valid technique.
As for why she hates it, it is precisely because she becomes an animal, mixing with her cat-like side. Things like putting her head on Kisuke's lap is something the normal Yoruichi would never do, as well as fighting with brute force only, with no technique at all. So she despises this transformation because she loses herself in the process.
Knowing that, Kisuke must have prepared something that forces the transformation, for times like these were the transformation would be necessary but she would refuse to do it. It's Kisuke we're talking about here, so this seems pretty logical.
As to how she got it, it's something only Kubo can answer. But for the rest, my thoughts above were always how I saw the transformation and the logic behind it.
Also, about the Zampakuto thing, she could very much just have a bogus Zampakuto, like Hanataro's. Plus, she likes to use Hakuda/Shunko better, so she decides to not use her sword. Not every Zampakuto has to be strong or explosive, nor does every shinigami need it to fight. Having some of them that don't rely on their Zampakuto is really interesting to me, and one of the reasons I like Yoruichi so much.
I read that whole "when I rip this paper, you'll activate the lightning cat form" bit in the manga as something similar to how you see sleeper agents being portrayed in most fiction. With them being brainwashed and then given a trigger word of sorts that causes them to go from a regular person planted in a regular everyday location to being a super trained spy upon hearing it. In this case, Urahara somehow brainwashed Yoruichi and gave her that trigger to essentially force her to take up the lightning cat form whenever he rips that paper.
My part on Askin: As capable as he is, I doubt that he's as capable as we see. I think that he was leveled up to fight her and everyone else. He's quite capable, but he was amped and they expect it to be believed that it was more than enough to handle all of his opponents.
Onto Yoruichi: I can agree, Yoruichi's preference for Hakuda is a unique trait, and her lack of dependency on her Zanpakuto is a wasted opportunity. That and Yoruichi herself is a special kind of soul, we've never really had a chance to explore what the Shihoin clan's about, do they all turn into cats? Is it gained when you reach a certain level or limited to her? The questions mount, though with the mystique comes the allure.
About her Shunko: I don't quite agree that her Zanpakuto has anything to do with her Shunko abilities, I believe she discovered the peak made her act more like a household cat, she has little to no agency, and acts on instinct rather than her own control. She's a wild spirit and prefers her freedom of control to do as she likes. For whatever reason she chose to leave her Zanpakuto out of her combat by choice (though we don't know why exactly).
On her Zanpakuto: I find that her preference is likely due to the fact that the ability might be a bit like Soifon/Suifeng. She might simply be one who doesn't like what her Zanpakuto's ability does, I doubt that the blade agrees with her lack of use of it. I think it plays into some tie to her clan and a kind of a beast tribe. I imagine that she's lots more power under her belt than we know of, that much I'd say is pretty clear. I enjoyed her and Askin's fight, but I find that she was done a disservice by keeping us from knowing anything about either her, her zanpakuto, or her clan.
All in all I think its a jest that she's stronger without the Zanpakuto. We know that the basis for all Shinigami is that they are stronger, when united as one with all of their abilities and their partner blade. What a bizarre thing to try and imply she's better off without it (in terms of the Light Novel).
In regards to her Zanpakuto, she could very well be stronger in battle without it. It might not be a combat type Zanpakuto. It could be a support type, like for stealth or something. It could be a defensive type, but one that makes her slow or otherwise hinders her movements. Or it could have an ability that has certain requirements to use that aren't easy to fulfill, making Shunko and Hakuda simply much more efficient and effective.
Thrre are many ways she could be stronger in battle without her Zanpakuto.

Though generally it is a reflection of the soul (though it is debatable), I do concur with you on the fact that it is no doubt, something that she feels is unnecessary for her in combat. A very well thought out idea you have here, friend!
If I remember correctly Captain Aizen said a battle between shinigami is of spiritual pressure not Zanpakuto. Aizen couldn't read Ichigo spiritual pressure because it was too high hence his lost. I think Yoruichi use a fraction of the principle with that technique.
I agree that I can't see Yoruichi being slow enough to get hit by Askin.
I'm really glad you actually touched on the subject of what the point of this transformation even is. I felt like it was such a massive step down to the Yoruichi we'd gotten to know. She just becomes a mindles naked catgirl, face down ass up, with lightning (that she already had). It didn't make much sense to me. I definitely think it's mainly because Kubo needed her to defeat Askin but I'm lost on why it looks the way it looks. Yoruichi is one of my favourite characters so I'm disappointed that her being at her strongest had to be a cheap fanservice moment that she doesn't even control herself, but is controlled by Kisuke. It would've been nice to get at least some information on her zanpakutou or make this ability that she hates be her bankai to at least explain why she says she's weaker with her zanpakutou.

I swear I just checked the channel like 5 minutes ago thinking "hmm, it should be time for another video". Biggest foreshadowing ever.
I think in lore you could say she hates the cat form because she loses control, but part of me *knows* that this is just a trend with Kubo. Like, characters hating their own powers for seemingly no reason. Bar Ichigo for most of the series (because he would’ve killed Uryu if Orihime wasn’t there, and many more of his friends if he truly lost control):
-Shunsui for his bankai and shikai
-Yoruichi for her cat form
-Ikkaku for his bankai
-Yumichika for his true shikai and bankai
-Soi Fon for her bankai
-Shuhei for his shikai
-Starrk for his resureccion
All the lads above hate their own abilities (those are just those I could recall off the top of me head, I’m sure there’s a Quincy or Fullbringer I missed). Granted it’s sorta cool when they go “I hate usin this technique” then stomp their enemy without looking back, but it’s still a bit grating that most important people are this way

It's not for "no reason", when the characters explain, or you can observe why, they hate the technique.
This arc really need some touching up like they are still so many mysteries left in the bleach Canon.
I think that's why she hates it; because Yoruichi is so independent and capable, being reduced to what is basically a ditzy, bimbofied animal and it being everything she worked for... it wounds her, it is a giant slap to the face to have the very crux of your being be so diametrically opposed to who you are.
Someone like Rangiku would've been fine with it, but Yoruichi... it's shameful to be reduced to that and to have it actually be her strongest power.
I don’t think it has anything to do with how lewd it is as she’s obviously completely okay with being sexy and uses it multiple times to tease people, I think it has more to do with the fact she’s not really in control.
she’s worked incredibly hard in her long life to become as good and powerful as she is only to have a form of her powers completely take her agency away when she’s clearly someone who likes to remain calm; collected and intelligent in her battles, also she might look at it as a risk, if her mood changes it is not a reliable skill.
What if an enemy she’s fighting isn’t like Askin and more like grimmjow or kenpachi, they might take advantage of when she’s in a lazy mood while in this form… It could be a really bad situation, it seems like a skill that’s only useful really in the situation she was in with askins very specific ability, otherwise while it would be terrifying to fight a truly capable and experienced fighter wouldn’t let her just sit there cleaning herself like a cat and it might only take 1 mistake and the battle is lostor she dies and yoruichi to me does not seem like the type of person who takes chances in battles.
She’s my favourite character in the series with Yamamoto slightly behind her, and I actually really like her design here, it would have been cooler if Kubo allowed her to use the form more willingly and she had control of it.
I think it would be cool if it turned out to be her shikai or bankai but she seals her sword away inside of herself and kisuke knows a way to force it’s ability out and that’s what the paper sticker he pulls off does, that would also explain why she hates it and would never use it willingly a bit like how soifon doesn’t like her bankai either as it does not suit a stealthy ninja fighting style, where as yoruichi just doesn’t like it because she’s not in control and it’s risky.
Shes gnarly,I think as someone up above me thinks is that this form is too much too handle but at the same time doesn't like to use it because she is out of control, kiske is 100 percent a person who sealed this away or had a part in it he is the master of research and development so I would think he had some sort of doings with this he has to know (kiske) he trained with her for years
This answered many questions and raised new ones so thank you for the analysis. I think her zanpakto actually reduced her speed rather than strength so the term weaker is more general

Honestly I think Yoruichi's technique was half-function, half-fanservice, and I have no problem with that. Why not make a sexy character that's also strong-willed and powerful? I read somewhere in an interview where Kubo thought no attractive females were really being created within Shounen manga right now, and I have to agree with him. Not just from a physical standpoint, but in terms of personality, attitude, and believability. Yoruichi felt like a person that could exist in real life, someone with sass, strength of character, yet also empathetic and heartfelt. She was a great mentor, character, and fanservice to boot in the series. All wins in my book.

There's still so much we don't really know about Yorichi 's character, I hope that it gets straightened out before Kubo leaves Bleach on the shelf for good. She such a good strong character
Yoruichi is a really cool character and i absolutely love her but that last transformation didnt do it for me. Sure, you can say she's always been more of a tease and flirty/confident than most characters but that transformation was too much (aesthetically talking). it basically left nothing to the imagination and it costed her (a great bit of) her dignity. Like, im sure she couldve done the same thing with a little bit more on her body being covered. And idk, i just didnt think the whole "she only listens to me" thing with urahara was necessary or any good. but then again this is my personal opinion!!!!

This to me is a situation where kubo’s lack of preparation and forward thinking in the case of story plotting bites him in the butt. He obviously got to this fight and wanted to give both of them cool new powers while also making them cool styles but he never even cared of the background. He just though, urahara obviously bankai, yoruichi obviously shunko ability, and did it. It honestly pisses me off cause he is so close to making everyone happy, to making this ending for yoruichi 10x better. Just add her zanpaktou in the mix, same powers, same everything but it is the zanpaktou. It actually makes everything make sense and ties all the weirdness around nicely. She doesn’t like using her zanpaktou (especially her bankai) because it makes her loose her mind and become a beast (cat), and she hates not having control over herself. When she finally unlocked this ability she realized that she hated it, she trained even harder in hakuda and kido, became a master and created shunko to match her bankai. But in this situation she need more power, for the first time she has to use her bankai and mix it with her use of shunko to match this opponent. Because of their relationship urahara somehow can calm her down. It just makes everything way better and it literally takes no extra work. Whatever, cool abilities anyway.
I feel like it's just a berserk mode. Like getting shocked by a power line (a set voltage), vs getting hit by a literal lightning (volatile and unpredictable). Without control she wouldn't be in normal state of mind. It's out of character, but she realizes this and is the reason why she herself doesn't like the form.
Honestly i dont find her transformation that questionable or out of character considering Yoruichi was always a tease lol. She likes flirting alot especially during the soul society arc so i think it suits her well.
Yeah, Askin was way more questionable. Just getting to become immune to anything except physical trauma, apparently, and no one capitalized on that until Grimmjow. No one else thought to just stab him.
Its questionable because she specifically says to Urahara that she hates not because of the appearance but because her mind loses all thought and just becomes an animal so she doesn't have any control of what she does during that time

This is a great example of Kubo writing something cool and not thinking it through. This form is just pure fan service no ands or butts (besides Yoruichi’s), the fact that it counter’s Askin’s ability is another trope of Kubo’s when he makes the villain so strong that he writes himself into a corner and has to use a deus ex machina

Ngl, Kubo short-changed us with Yoruichi pretty hard in TYBW, but the Hell arc is a golden opportunity to showcase the full scope of her abilities.
And I'm sure she will given that denizen of hell made themselves known in the human world. No doubt all of Gotei 13 both active and exile are on edge and ready to take action alongside the others.

What hell arc lmfao. It was a oneshot. Everyone is calling it a oneshot, from the publisher to the distributors. At this point its pretty clear kubo was pulling something artistic & referring to an adventure that *will* happen to the characters but that we won't see as readers, when he announced a hell arc.

It is most likely just something Kisuke made up for her in her younger years with him. He probably combined her transformation abilities combined with Shunkō and used it to tease her once he saw the effects of her personality change. That’s why he can activate it and she hates it

Yoruichi also hates her final form as she is self aware of how its just pure fanservice, and a half cocked idea only thrown in at the last moment by Kubo to give her a plot armor against the specific enemy.
While Yoruichi was always hot, having her going actual fanservice was quite tasteless in my eyes.
She could have had the final form without losing her mind.
As for her Zanpakutō, I don't see why it could not transform into gauntlets/boots combo to basically function like the one's she used during the fight with Aizen.
The only problem would be trying to explain why she did not use it during the actual fight with Aizen and instead used the one's made by Urehara instead.
Yeah, the "I'm stronger without my zanpakto" is so weird. I sort of think Kubo wrote himself into a corner with it because why would a zanpakto, a part of you, make you weaker? Why would you not use it even when the chips were down? What makes it even weirder is that he wrote himself into the same corner with kisuke's bankai and actually kisukes bankai seems to be absolutely perfect for training someone 😂. So yeah long story short I agree that this being her zankpakto ability, that it makes her a mindless lightning cat similar to how kenpachis bankai makes him a mindless demon, would make way more sense than urahara pulling a sheet of paper.
I mean, I don't know the lore as well as like most of you guys do, but maybe she is just not that good at sword fighting, kendo stuff? I mean, I remember her clan being always practicing the hand to hand combat like it was sorta known for it, so maybe she is stronger because she has more experience with her fists rather than knowing how to swing a sharp stick? And for Kisuke's bankai

What if her zanpakto is a giant boomerang that throws off her whole entire gameplan and way she fights? I would leave it too. Theres nothing wrong with a character that disagrees with status quo. That is evolution and growth on an even level. Hell her student soifon has a zan that admittedly she tries to incorporate into her style but her bankai is 99%unwieldy.

@@ruefysh9576 yeah, I don't much have an issue with her not wanting to use a sealed sword but given zanpaktou are a reflection of the wielders' soul and are in canon as being incredibly easy to wield for them whatever shape they take then I dunno it just seems weird. Maybe it's something that doesn't gel well with shunko perhaps? The thing is she has achieved bankai (given she was a captain) seems odd both shikai and bankai would be totally useless to her.
My guess is that piece of paper was actually a seal on her power kind of like Kenpachi's eye patch. Kisuke was able to seal her power off enough that she was able to control it and mature it to the point that it was usable. They did have 100 years together so I am sure secrets were leaked to each other. I would compare her power to Kenpachi without the eye patch and using both hands on his sword. When she goes full lightning kitty, some fan service yes, that is all of her brute untamed mindless power. My guess is she hates that form because there is no control. With some of the power sealed away she was able to harness it and use it at her will. Unsealed it is just a raging monster that she is unable to control.
Hopefully we get some short of information in klub outside, bbs (with a what if scenario they do sometimes) and hell arc. She's honest to God my favorite character in bleach, I want to know soo much about her more, especially her relationship with Urahara and Tessai as kids.

I think, and I hope more people can get behind this, this form was created by Urahara.
Think about it. They have been friends for a long time and Kisuke has already help her before with the anti-hierro gloves. They also train together so he probably knows the limit of her abilities. My theory is that he wanted to combine both things about Yoruichi into one (animal form and human) but with kido instead of physical. Sadly, it end up in this weird cat mind Yoruichi with immense power and changing reatsu.
I say sadly because she doesn't like it at all, specially because she becomes a pet to Kisuke (lmao).

Of all of the things that were questionable about that fight, I'd say that Yoruichi wasn't what came to mind. Askin just being able to make himself immune to anything was way more ridiculous.

Yeah I actually had him in my top 10 most broken characters when Tommo did the video. His Deathdealing makes it so he can make anything lethal to the enemy while anything not lethal to him he becomes automatically immune to.

My theory has been that Yoroichi's Zanpakuto allows her to turn into the cat or transform into animals. Because she's a stealth expert. And then her Bankai is the lightning cat and it's a berserk type like kenpachis
Yourichi’s first transformation into human form in front of ichigo was a fan service moment. It’s kind of fitting in a way that her last appearance in the series was as well. But I think the lightning cat form was just so kubo could draw her doing the cat stretch in the buff. (strategic lightning bolts don’t count as clothes.)
The last arc had so much fan service for no good reason.

The form was fine to me. It didn't hurt her character or anything. It's just one of those powers that come with a severe drawback, which, in Yoruichi's case, the drawback is losing control of her mental faculties.
I don't think she had as much control over what the form would turn out to be. I think that there are rules that govern some things, like the creation of some techniques. Adding Kido to her physical power created Shunko. Soi-Fon, who discovered the technique completely independent of Yoruichi, has a similar form when she uses Shunko. That's no coincidence. I think that when Yoruichi discovered the next stage of Shunko, she realised that it would grant her strength and power, but at a cost of her mental faculties while in the form, which is why she hates it. It's basically a Berserk form.
It may not be a Zanpakutou, where she has no control over what it turns out to be, but some techniques, no matter what they are, are not always perfect. They have drawbacks. This is one of them. It's like DBZ with SSJ Stage 3. Gives a Saiyan strength and power, but at a cost of speed and mobility
You said Yoruichi wasnt used for fanservice. But the first time we got to see her was how she appeared naked before Ichigo after transforming. The second time we see her its her bathing naked and teasing ichigo. So... i think she was planned as a fanservice character in the beginning? But maybe because of her badass showcase that was dropped. For the better, if you ask me. I really didnt like the naked cat form.

Kenpachi lost his mind when he used his bankai as well so it's not unhead of that there are some abilities that come at that cost.
I’ll be honest, I thought the transformation was kinda cheap and didn’t do Yoruichi justice. It was a cop-out on Kubo’s part so he could avoid revealing her zanpaktou and coming up with something creative…

I think it’d be cool if her Zanpakto ended up being some long claws of some sort. Feels like it would fit perfectly into her character on the “cat theme” and it would give her a reason to not really like it.

Lightning Cat transformation looks more like a ressureccion than a bankai. Personally I loved it, and felt perfectly in character for her to have something like that in her arsenal, for it to come at a high cost in this case her agency, for her to not like it, and for Kisuke who tampers with souls all the time to be able to force her into it, playfully of course and for the greater good. From the moment we see her in human form its clear she is actually a little fickle, ditching her life, and titles, her supporters in a heartbeat without batting an eye, but feeling the need to proove to Byakuya and Soifon that she is still the fastest, that that title is hers and hers alone, even if she made it up. Its so wierd to me that people want to see her zanbakto. Ichigo learning the final getsuga tensho and acquiring the true zangetsu really hammer home the idea that the zanbakto IS the soul of the soul repear; its all the same entity, they are one. And in that way the degree to which someone rejects a part of part of themselves becomes a limit to thier power. Its a major part of the character arc of a lot of characters, Yoroichi included. From the time she was little she wanted to do whatever she feels like, and unleashing and accepting that part of her, letting it run wild equals lightning cat. A thing she's probably tried to mature out of but still lives on deep inside as a genuine part of her. I think she's easily the coolest character and am glad we got to see that moment

So it probably doesn´t suit her fighting style
Buuut the shihoin clan are the traditional heads of the punishment force and therefore it would probably be assassin themed? That being said, I think this is probably the best way for Kubo to explain how yoruichis zanpaktou doesn't work well for her

They use Hakuda and Kido, but when it comes to executing or locking up criminals they use their special weapons
Maybe the cat form came about due to Urahara being curious about her cat form's limits, discovering she could become a sort of werecat, after analyzing her normal cat form, than he used science to transform her. It is strange however that her personality turns into that of cat while she's in the shunko cat form, considering that she retained her personality when she just transforms into a normal cat.

Query: Does anyone know what Yoruichi's Zanpakuto does? We never see it used, I believe. With how much she hates her transformation, could her Zanpakuto have altered her form somehow, so she doesn't use it because she bears a grudge against it?

She says in the light novels that she's stronger in combat without it and that's why she never uses it. This implies that it's not a combat type or that the ability is very impractical or inefficient.
Apparently this really frustrates her Zanpakuto Spirit so it's part of her daily routine to "soothe it". Whatever that means. It was actually a really funny scene because Soi-Fon was there and got really jealous of the spirit when imagining what Yoruichi does to it.

As you stated it’s a real shame that’s the last impression we have of her…she may not use her sword because it has a glaring weakness similar to Sajin Komamura. If that is the case, I can’t imagine she would try to force it to be useful.

8:40 Actually, when looking on the Bleach wiki for Kido and Hakuda, it states that both Yoruichi and Soi Fon are Kido Experts (Basically the level 2 for Kido) and Hakuda Masters (The level 3 for Hakuda). Yushiro has not been credited with a level in Kido yet.
When looking at these supposed statistics, characters that have the potential to also use Shunko include Aizen, Yamamoto and Kisuke.
On the topic of Yamamoto, doesn't the "Beyond Bankai" version of him for Brave Souls kinda resemble Shunko in a way?

I wonder if the reatsu(sp?) changing so fast is not only a defense but also offensive. For instance, offensively, would it be able to help her bypass an opponent's defensive skill, like a jackhammer smashing into the same spot extremely fast, or even let part of her energy slip through even if most of it is blocked. Defensively, could it work somehow the same way, by helping make it more difficult for enemy attacks actually land a solid hit against her or let her slip out of traps or whatnot? Or potentially, maybe the rapid change of energy allows her to move and react even faster and hit harder since it might be something like a bunch of repeated bursts of energy.
It's kinda like a fan service version of Negi's magia erebia lightning God form (can't remember the exact name) from Negima. He uses dark magic to capture the sheer destructive magic of the ultimate lightning attack that can destroy entire cities in a single go and takes that into his body to move at the speed of lightning. He uses it a second time to be able to think at the speed of lightning as well as having the reflexes. But then has double the damage inflicted on his body after. That's what this form of yoruichi reminds me of.
Askin hitting her with a gift ball isn't the only way to apply deathdealing remember? He could've caught Yoruichi in any number of ways, maybe with the gift bad (poison pool,) or even just licked some blood to poison her. Like he did to "the number 1 zanpakuto creator" who should be way stronger than Yoruichi. Maybe he even turned her own Reiatsu poisonous, or even just the oxygen. Because he's breathing the air he was also able to turn the oxygen she breathed into poison. Or, maybe even just expanded a gift ball deluxe, instantly, and then removed it again.
Plenty of ways for Askin to change her Lethal dose and affect her
Her losing her personality and acting like a needy cat with Kisuke could have been a small joke but Kubo doesn't have a good track record with writing woman and I couldn't help but go "oh so her biggest move is being an ecchi cat-girl"

I think if Hachi would ever use Shunko his element would be water, and it maybe wouldn't have to be a punch. Could be like a "waterfall hand chop" or something haha he could use his barrier Kido to keep them in one place then deliver the single Shunko attack he knows.
I agree with most all points you said. I think the form was definitely meant for fan service and ultimately hurt her character a bit even if it was cool. I still like the form but can see the issues with it ofc. Ive just gotten used to it at this point as kubo hasnt really been one for consistency. I mean remember how ichigo had to use kons soul pill or rukias glove in order to go into shinigami form? We literally stop seeing that after the first arc or so.....not to mention the full bring arc (even tho i do like it). He just transform into a shinigami when rukia stabs him lol
edit: I also think this was a victim of the rushed last arc as well be it kubos fault or the studios. Im sure if he had more time/was in better health it would have been developed more etc. Lets just hope the anime fixes some of the stuff.

She is constantly getting skimpier and skimpier clothes throughout the series because of her “special abilities”(shunpo). I mean I love yoruichi and most fan service characters in manga/anime are just that and that defines their characters bringing their value down in some people’s minds. But yoruichi is proven to be much more than that time and time again so that it doesn’t define her character. Just a little rant lol my bad. Overall I really enjoyed this video and keep it up Tommo.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! I've never really thought of her introductory scene as fanservice - she's fully in control and completely messing with Ichigo. The entire scene plays out in service of establishing her character. Whereas against Askin, she's just a mindless, naked catwoman. I agree it doesn't define her, but it's a shame at the same time that that is her final appearance in the manga.

I might have gotten confused, but I interpreted the thing with her fickle mood as her experiencing time slower? That, in a single second, she has gone through 48 different states of mind; boredom, playing, resting, looking around, a second becomes an hour for her, and that her physical speed matches that, that she moves faster than the eye is able to see.
Shikai could totally be her cat form, then bankai is the lightning cat. So her shikai isn't fit for battle and her bankai takes her mind away. Maybe a weakness is that it wants to be activated so badly that it comes out on a whim. So Kisuke peeled the paper and it showed the bankai name, Yoruichi read it, and that was good enough for her spirit to activate itself.
I feel it’s the same thing with the Vizards not using their masks for some reason. When it comes to not using certain abilities just cause.
