@@chrisblanc663Yes actually, literally google it. But the consequences can be a mistrial and ends possibly in a lawyer being disbarred. Usually they’re done with their job by this time
It's a great movie and I don't care if a lawyer steps aside because they know that their client is guilty. They should pause the trial and he should have to find another lawyer or get a public defender because he is an evil pedophile and his attorney just realized that and I wouldn't defend him either
That's not a legal obligation here in India. We can recuse ourselves from a case at any point of time even without giving any reason to the Court .The bad behaviour of the client is also a valid reason for a lawyer to leave his / her case at any point of time.
Incorrect. Lawyers do not have a legal obligation to stay locked in with a client. Judges can deny a lawyer’s request to withdraw, but this case falls under a specific type of withdrawal that 99% of judges would be fine with: if an attorney finds the client so morally repugnant that the attorney is incapable of representing them effectively due to disgust, then they can withdraw. This type of withdrawal will almost always be allowed because due process requires effective representation.
@@sathvikreddy9106 lmao lawyers withdraw all the time, or are obligated to withdraw 1) by the court or 2) by the ethical rules of their State Bar Association. It does not “ruin a lawyer’s career” to withdraw from a case 😂 it is a normal part of practicing law
This is not actually helpful to the victim, as sweet and righteous as this act may seem. If a defendant isn’t given a lawyer who can perfectly and unbiasedly preform their job, the defendant can appeal and potentially have the case thrown out. Not to mention the fact that now there has to be a re-trial, and that poor girl has to go through all of this again-the testimony, being accused of lying or misremembering, etc, just to get her meager bit of justice and keep this predator off the streets.
defending obviously guilty criminals is kind of important/a net good tho, otherwise there’s a better chance of having their case dismissed down the line and not serving the full sentence
That's not what happened here. His lawyer is representing him and is there to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that his client is innocent. He saw what his client was rubbing the bottom of the table while the girl was giving her testimony, and I suppose it rather made him sick realizing his client is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Congratulations that lawyer just caused a mistrial and the entire process needs to be started again with a fresh jury or dismissed for inappropriate conduct of counsel

It could be any song though. Not the same song every goddamn time. There's no reason not to switch it up every now and then, except laziness
@@jackcr2477
well it's hard to find good music that fits every scene, so yes lazyness is understandable
Exactly 💥🤦
I used to feel the same, but now I have been Stockholm'd into loving it
One day it will be gone and we'll all be nostalgic for it. Even you.
"You'll burn for this!"
hunny, i think you're the one getting burned
Damn good movie. Keanu is my guy
one of the best films keanu reeves made
Great Movie THE Devil's Advocate!
A child should never have be betrayed by an adult like this.
All lawyers are just doing their jobs. Never hate a lawyer for defending an awful person.
Vanity, definitely my favorite sin.
Man has common sense and standards, good call.
Keanue is excellent as righteous lawyer❤
Why is everyone in the comments saying the girl is bad? The guy is clearly creepy
Gotta be one of the greatest movies of all time ❤️
Title of the movie is The Devil's Avocado.
Holy guacamole of a movie! 🥑
You funny
Guacamole…definitely my favorite sin.
Is it me or she’s the same person who plays the same role in legally blonde 😮😂
Classic movie!
what is it called?
That’s the bratty freind from princess diaries
This movie is so good and it's crazy wild. It's a must watch and that guy was a sicko
One of the greatest movies ever.
The fact that you can see his hands as he thinks about what he did and reenacts it with the table is just sad
I always loved the Northern Florida accent
“Yoo-uh witness, Mr. Lomax”
From a Lawyer to Baba Yaga 😈😈
Love Keanu so much, an amazing actor and even cooler fucking guy. I wanna meet the man at least once in my life just to tell him he’s a beautiful human being
Wouldn't the defendant have stood a better chance by letting his lawyer appear insane?
I think the lawyer would risk getting disbarred.
Guess thats one less lawyer for Drake
Where can we find the name of the movie and how to watch it?
Devils advocate

John wick: devil's advocate
One of my all time favorite movies!
Hahaha, a lawyer with good principles. Better put this movie in the fantasy section
I mean it is true. It doesnt matter if a defense lawyer thinks they're guilty, it doesnt matter if they know for a fact, its their job and legal obligation to defend their client to the best of their abilities. Thats what gives Americans their rights to a fair trial
The weirdest part of this is a teacher affording a lawyer
The church probably paid for it to protect one of their own.
Teacher’s union money, maybe?
Well when it means you go to jail for life, you’re willing to spend everything you have. Literally everything.
Great movie
What is name of movie, please

The devil’s advocate
This is a great movie and I need to watch it again
Agree with his right not to represent someone who he cannot morally defend. But that ship has sailed.
This is middle of the trial!!
To do so in the middle of the trial with a witness on the stand is malpractice.
It screams "yep. He's guilty, alright. I give up" to the jury.
This is a miscarriage if justice, regardless the nature of the crime. Cause for overturning any conviction.
The defendant would have a legitimate cause for mistrial and disbarment of Keanu
He is way past jumping ship and crying "can't get my hands dirty" by this time of the trial.
This is malpractice, guilty or not.
True. Makes good drama though.
A fact that the character was well aware of, per his response to the judge asking if he understood the consequences. He was willing to throw the case away to make sure the COMMUNITY knew what the truth was.
@@brianguidry907and to ensure the offender gets off with no consequences, at all, like he could even go back to being a teacher. And if he does it again, you wouldn’t even be able to bring this incident up. So what’s the point? Like the other guy said, it makes good drama, but it’s absolutely ridiculous no matter how you look at it.
@@kristoferprovencal3608 In the time period and setting of this movie, community consequences would be far worse than anything the courts could do to him. This guy would be ostracized by the community, no one would hire him, it is even quite possible that he would find himself surrounded by his neighbors one dark night in an ally.
@@brianguidry907 the time period huh? 90s NY, that’s the setting, not the Wild West. Considering it’s NY city, he wouldn’t even have to go far to be around people who have no idea who he is or what happened, hell it’d be even easier than if it happened today. That aside, if people refuse to hire him based on dismissed charges he would have grounds for a lawsuit. He would be more likely to come out better off than worse after this.
Heather Matarazzo is one hell of an actress
This is actually pretty common for lawyers.
To stop representing a client DURING a court hearing?
@@chrisblanc663 Yes.
@@chrisblanc663Yes actually, literally google it. But the consequences can be a mistrial and ends possibly in a lawyer being disbarred. Usually they’re done with their job by this time
If that happened in a court room with the jury present it would be a mistrial.
Obviously @@chrisblanc663

Awesome movie!
He made the movie with his acting.❤
It's a great movie and I don't care if a lawyer steps aside because they know that their client is guilty. They should pause the trial and he should have to find another lawyer or get a public defender because he is an evil pedophile and his attorney just realized that and I wouldn't defend him either
What movie was this? Anyone knows Please list in comments.
This is how you get disbarred. Lawyers have a legal obligation to defend their clients no matter what.
This type of withdrawal will almost always be allowed because due process requires effective representation.
yes they can withdraw but that would most likely end lawyer's career. Also it can result in a mistrial
Her entire mouth look and movement pissed me off watching her on The Princess diaries. 😂😂😂
Stop with the creepy music, okay?
Was he touching the lawyer or himself?
Looks like he was recreating what he was doing under the table
The Devils Advocate, love this movie 😅😂😂❤
There's no way a defense lawer doesn't know anything about the case at the point there's witness on the stand 😂
Had me thinking Mr wick was the bad guy
Congratulations that lawyer just caused a mistrial and the entire process needs to be started again with a fresh jury or dismissed for inappropriate conduct of counsel
But didn't have to defend a chomo.
@@stevenleblanc8146 never should have made it all the way to the courtroom then
Then the movie would need a new critical juncture that would also be just as over the top dramatic and unlikely.
If only all of them refused if they knew they where guilty
That sounds nice, but when you follow the logic through it would be chaos. Everyone has a right to a defense for a reason.
Well Done, My Brother !
His job isn't to prove the defendant is innocent, his job is to ensure the trial is fair. Everyone deserves legal representation.
No his job is 100% to prove the defendant is innocent. Even if he’s not
We don’t just deserve legal representation. Everyone deserves someone who will completely advocate for them. Wether they are a good lawyer or not whatever but they need to be loyal to their clients
@@3legreg Delulu comment, by law it is actually illegal to lie on the court, noone deserves someone that would completely support them, not even if their are your child.
@@anna.owo. don’t know if your country has a shitty justice system or you live in us but are ignorant to how it works.
A lawyers job is to prove their client innocent/get the best possible outcome for them. And the job stays the same regardless of the actual guilt of their client.
Lying under oath is illegal. But Nobody said anything about lying. You can prove a guilty man innocent in court without lying
@@3legregyou do know how the United States justice system is right…? Very corrupt if you didn’t know also are you defending predators and or murderers because it sure seems like it. Also he never said it wasn’t their job to prove them guilty he said that lawyers can’t lie as that is illegal I have a feeling you might be on the same level as those predators and murderers you so desperately want to defend
It's one of my favourite go-to movies.
It's important that everyone has a lawyer who would do their absolute best to defend their client even if he thinks he's guilty. It's your constitutional right and we have it for a reason. If no later who represent someone suspected of a crime then the police gave no incentive to follow the law and gather evidence and follow the proper procedure.
