My family rolls their eyes when I watch your videos, but they just don't get the enjoyment and excitement and relaxation I get from watching your videos. I grew up in the Iron Range in MN, and it will always be home for me. I have lived in western NC now for 20 yrs and it is just way too hot for me, to say nothing of all the wildlife and forest rambling I miss terribly now. My heart aches when I hear a loon call on your videos, or watch that beaver swimming. I used to sit in a tree stand in the evening that overlooked a beaver pond, as a kid, and watch the beavers work on their house and dam.
Peanut butter pop tart! It never gets old. One day I’m going to create a supercut of all the Shug Scottish breakfast descriptions. It is just so incredibly funny and delightful.
That opening visual is downright patagonia ! Orange blue black purple GORGEOUS!!! THAnX SHUGERMAN🖒👍🖒👍👂👏👏👏👊✋✊💜😂😃😄🐝🐞🐱💜TOTALLY helping me cope with back injury. Dewd those colors & your singing, im bawling. I needed a good cry. So beautiful thankyou security sector7 holi crap bear dodo. Whoa!
Amidst the turmoil of the world I find your videos refreshing escape from the reality! I’m a RN and my patients tell me to not waste a moment to enjoy Gods bursary and splendor . You are doin it right whooooo buddy
Couple years back, a group of high school buddies and our adult boys went on Canadian fishing trip. We came back down the longer way. Different scenery and Gordy's HiHat. None of the rest had never hear of it. We love that corner of the world.
Great job Shug..seemed like a wonderfully slow paced walk through a peaceful spring forest with amazing lake views..you're like the Bob Ross of hammock camping..I love that you show us all the great spots along these trails so we all can go check them out as well..can't wait till the next one sir..
I’ve watched so many of your videos and to hear you comment on how many hours or how wonderful your slept is always so delightful ...being a woman in the woods some of us never get that full relaxing sleep...really wish I could experience it. Love the outdoors...any who thank you Shug for another awesome video!
Hey Shug, I just wanna let you know that you and I are close to the same age. I’ve been watching you since you started producing Wayback when. You’ve inspired me to do videos and to go Hammocking. I love your work it’s just great to get out here and to watch people our age still doing it. God bless you brother good to see you’re in good health, you were covered from your shoulder injury well. Take care keep doing what you’re doing.
Thanks for such a wonderful video of your neck of the woods. I know first hand what it takes to keep a trail open. Since 2010, I have been volunteering 200-300 hours of my time clearing trails of brush and blowdowns. I have carried a 20lb McCulloch 10-10 24" bar for up to 12 miles many times and a Stihl 200t when there are no huge blowdowns. The best time I had clearing blowdowns was in 2012 when 5 of us cleared a 1 mile stretch of tornado devastation in only a half a day. I personally know someone who was only a few hundred feet from the beginning of the devastation the night the tornado hit, and he was glad he decided not to camp were he originally intended which was in the middle of the mess.
That was a wonderful, contented trip in your beautiful North woods country. Loved the footage of the loons and the beaver. That one loon needed to feel the love of a punk stick though. :-) Thanks for taking us along on your hike.
Man, that sunset was pretty spectacular on video. I can only imagine what it was like watching it out there. Thanks for posting, Shug. Always fun to watch.
Another masterpiece, Shug !! When you had the zinc on your face, it reminded me of an overnighter last fall when I took a lot of selfies, got to a rare spot that had cell service. I sent my wife a photo, and she texted back how good I looked with marshmallow fluff on my face. Not one person I ran into that day mentioned it !!! Ha Ha Thanks again. Can't wait to get out!!!
Excellent trip! Nothing better than magic hour in the Boundary Waters and listening to the singing wilderness!!! ( from my favorite author, Sig) Perfect solitude! Thank you!!
Great video as usual. Funny story.. in 1960 my uncle and I were canoeing there, fishing also. We met some people from St Paul. There second night in the woods. They failed to tie up there paddles and the beavers ate the palm handles off. We suspected they found those salty handles tasty.. Terry&ThePirates
Very nice trip. Thanks for adding some footage on the map. I’m a real map nut and enjoy seeing your route. That sunset was totally awesome. I’m so jealous. 😊
Thanks Shug! You spoil us with the way you capture such natural beauty. I gotta get my fat dad body off this couch and back on a trail. All secure in Roanoke Va..maybe one day I'll run into Hickery up in Lynchburg..
Cheers Shug great vid as always. I took my 7 month old shep pup with me to the SHT this past week thur -sun..Caribou state wayside south to Tettegouche /hyw 1..Best time hiking in 51 years..Mud, rocks, roots and uphill both ways from Sunday..A few gnats sat but bug free mostly..(treated).Your sector 7 looked fantastic as always..
What a gorgeous sunset and thanks so much for the interpretive shadow dance segment. I feel that brought my understanding to a much deeper level 😂 watched the maple King's first video, but I was not allowed to comment. And after seeing what he did to you, it wasn't worth risking his wrath with repeated futile attempts.....Now I am itching to visit The Boundary Waters. THANKEE 😊😊😊
For me, the most appealing aspect of your videos is the sincere appreciation and reverence you have for nature. That, coupled with your videography skills, makes your content some of the most compelling. Much appreciation from someone who also enjoys a solo and reflective trip.
I love it up there. Never hiked it though always canoed. For the last 8 years or so I've been going to Quetico Park just on top of the Boundary Waters in Canada. Watching that sunset you shot along with the loons and beaver takes me right there. All you needed was some wolf howls. My 13 nighter starts August 28th. This got me in the mood, thanks Shug.
@@shugemery No I just have a large and a medium pack and double portage. My border collie likes to come with too. This year will be fun. There's 7 of us in solo canoes. Old men paddlin'.
Looks like you're in the best shape you've been in for a long time. Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration to the rest of us. Hey, enjoyed the sing'n and strum'n too.
Great video Shug, felt like I was there with you. I have been on the trail overlooking Parent Lake while winter camping there. Your videos are always well put together and the wildlife shots are amazing. You are inspiring to those of us who enjoy this type of adventure. Keep it up.
I'm sure Bill would like your cover of his song .... it blended so well with the images you shared. Looked like a great trip, but dang it now.... I want that cheeseburger!
Did the loop in August 2020 and spent the last night at the Parent Lake site, one of my favorites on that trail! We had rolling thunderstorms all night and listening to it echo across the lake was amazing. On the hike out, in a section of raspberries and hazelnuts near one of the beaver dams, we also ran across the biggest pile of bear poop I have ever seen. Wondering if it was the same bear. 🤔 Great video as always!
That sunset was absolutely incredible on a small screen. Must have been amazing in person. Next year I’ll be headed to the BWCA, hard not to want to see that with my own eyes. Another great trip, thanks for taking us along Shug.
Great videos! I appreciate the shots showing the loons and beaver and just the tranquility of the place. You got a great chance just to 'be'! Thanks for letting us spy on you Shug!
That was a great trip Shug! Thanks for taking us along. I was laughing when you woke up hearing creature noises only to realize it was your stomach growling, I had the same thing happen to me a couple times on trail too.. :) That's too funny. Can't wait to do that trail.
Shug thanks for sharing this great trip with us. If I never get a chance to see BWCA (but I would love to) I now know what I missed now that place is beautiful.
Very nice !!. The vid at around 12:20 of the sun is simply awesome ! See , breaking PB Trail records and worried about the years !? Honestly though , going from 5 down to 3 1/2 hrs is quite a feat . Scottish plaid in the bush , I like it !! .. Bg
A Shug video is never a disappointment. I'm curious why the lake is named Disappointment. Perhaps because of a fishing trip that didn't net anything. I tried google but only got info about an Australian lake that is often dry and named accordingly. I love the effect laden intro music. Some reverb, delay, and some wah-wah. Amazing sunset!
Watching these made me realize that a solo trip on a trail (as opposed to paddle/portaging) might be the perfect way to do my first solo adventure. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences man.
That sunset was just as you described on the BR podcast, pretty magical. Will definitely try the PackItGourmet gumbo - my fav is their All American Works Burger, don't believe it compares to that post trip double one of yours.
Loved loved your sunset dancewiggle, Shug. I'm really excited to hike this trail, thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite trails for sure. Make sure to carry good maps.
My family rolls their eyes when I watch your videos, but they just don't get the enjoyment and excitement and relaxation I get from watching your videos. A shug video and a day off work??? Today is a good day

Gordy's needs to make a whoooo berry shake. 😁
Haaaa.....!
Peanut butter pop tart! It never gets old. One day I’m going to create a supercut of all the Shug Scottish breakfast descriptions. It is just so incredibly funny and delightful.
That is grrrreeeate.
That's me and my crew at 7:18! Disappointment is a beautiful lake from the water, thanks for sharing the trail views!
So crazy that he saw us out there! Looks like we were on the way in.
Man oh man, lakes, loons, pines, coffee, pop tarts, gumbo, Gordy's burgers - a regular Shug feast for the eyes and soul. Thanks, Shug.

Your forest forays as of late seem fantastic, full of fun and frolic. That sunset over the lake...well...wow. Thanks Shug.

Are you saying that you sleep a bit nervous out there? The woods are the only place I can sleep that length of time. The hammock helps a ton.

Never knew bugs swarmed them so much.
Fabulous video, Shug. Especially the loons, the lakes, the sunset and your music. So beautiful and peaceful.
It was well worth the trip and thankee.

He was following me....
Nice sunset and wildlife shots Mr. Shug and a sweet groovy dance to boot,
Appreciate it.
Nice sunset with a wee Bill Withers kicker👍👍👍 Thanks Shug

Always a pleasure to watch a Shug video. Stay safe on the trail.
Thank ya'.
I liked the loon at the beginning: the one in the blue tuque.
Whoo BUDDY!!!
I getcha!
Hey Shug loved the sunset. Noisy stomach has fooled me at night in the woods too. Really enjoyed these two videos. Thanks
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
WOW!!! What a sunset! WHOO BUDDY!
Film caught it pretty good but to be there live......was a WoW
Man, that sunset was pretty spectacular on video. I can only imagine what it was like watching it out there. Thanks for posting, Shug. Always fun to watch.
To be there live is wonderful.
That sunset was magical!
Love how peaceful and happy you look. And the photography is top drawer on this one. Wicked video. Loved it
I thank ya'

Funny no one tells ya' you are smeared~~~
Good time out, nice to see somebody finally slapping some wildlife and sunset and landscape into their vids! Cheers buddy!
Yeah....I was sick of filming myself!
What a wonderful adventure. Thank you very much for sharing it.

Wow that was an epic sunset. Thanks for sharing.
Thankee.
I think my heart stopped at 12:08. Incredible!
Incredible it was.
That sunset was beautiful. Thanks for sharing it.
It was amazing. Thankee and Y'elcome.
That was one fine trip and one fine cheeseburger. Thanks for the video. Take care, Al
Truly was. Love family owned joints like that.
Great video as usual. Funny story.. in 1960 my uncle and I were canoeing there, fishing also. We met some people from St Paul. There second night in the woods. That salt. All the critters love it.
Love the music and the shot of the fancee feest / sunset. Thanks Shug, peace.
Thankee.
Very nice trip.
Thanks for adding some footage on the map. I’m a real map nut and enjoy seeing your route.
That sunset was totally awesome. I’m so jealous. 😊
Love that old map.
Thanks Shug! You spoil us with the way you capture such natural beauty. I gotta get my fat dad body off this couch and back on a trail. All secure in Roanoke Va..maybe one day I'll run into Hickery up in Lynchburg..
Watch out for the Maple King~~~~~
Cheers

I love how comfortable you are in the outdoors, keep on enjoying nature. Big respect
I do feel peace out there. More-so than in the real world.
Me too. Nature calls me
Great hike. You really got it with the weather. Looks like a great way to reset the sole. Oh yeah, the music was awesome.
Thankee.
What a gorgeous sunset and thanks so much for the interpretive shadow dance segment. Takes a lot to get me to dance. That sunset and locale did it. Thankee.
Another great solo hike. You have inspired me to do a hike here in my back yard in New Mexico.
Allrighty!
Perddy perddy perddy. That was sweetness. Thank ya.
Thankee.
For me, the most appealing aspect of your videos is the sincere appreciation and reverence you have for nature. That, coupled with your videography skills, makes your content some of the most compelling. Much appreciation from someone who also enjoys a solo and reflective trip.
I never know I like nature so much until...I get out there. Thankee.
Nice moves Shug! And those colors were not half bad either. Wish I was standing right next to you looked wicked awesome! Thanks for sharing!
A rare happy dance. Thankee.
The beaver tail slaps were a great capture. Those rodents are awesome!
They sure are. They get my respect.
Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Now I gotta say 89 is hot even in Carolina. LOL! Have fun. Enjoyed watching.
Go West Meck!
The music in the beginning sounds so amazing
Thanks.
Another spectacular saunter with Shug! Thank you kindly for taking us along, once again. WB!
Yessir...
WHooooBuddy!!! This might be one of my faves.... might
For sure a great trip. Gonna do that one again.
Thank you sir! Felt like I was there and wished I was. Taking this trip this month and looking forward to it even more now.
One of my favorite loop hikes. Have a right goodie of a trip.
Ahh man. That site on the lake looked great! I wish I woulda been there too bud...Really enjoyed these man. Thankee
A fine time.
Great video Shug, felt like I was there with you. I have been on the trail overlooking Parent Lake while winter camping there. Your videos are always well put together and the wildlife shots are amazing. You are inspiring to those of us who enjoy this type of adventure. Keep it up.
Did you hike to Parent on the Thomas Winter trail? Thankee.
We went across snowbank and to the parent trail. Most years we camp on Disappointment Lake. Twice on Asub. Winter only
I really like Asub Lake. Fine camping spot. Only been in Fall though.
Living the dream! That sunset sequence starting at 12 minutes in was truly spectacular! Thank you sir.
It filmed pretty good but in person....wow.
Really appreciate your hikes up North heading that way myself in a couple weeks. Waken to the Medaglia D'ora on my hike ☕
Be Awake~~~~~
I'm sure Bill would like your cover of his song .... it blended so well with the images you shared. Looked like a great trip, but dang it now.... I want that cheeseburger!
Aw shucks. Thankee.
OK this is my last comment on this video, promise! I really loved the sunset and music at 12:17! Great combo and thanks for sharing this with us!
Thankee.
Loved that low shot on the lake at 9:26, and the papillons (butterflies) too! Whoooooooo buddy!

Parent is a favorite as kinda-sorta easy to get to and some best sunsets there.
That sunset was absolutely incredible on a small screen. Must have been amazing in person. Next year I’ll be headed to the BWCA, hard not to want to see that with my own eyes. Another great trip, thanks for taking us along Shug.
In person it is almost religious.
Shug is just a classic genuine good dude. Would love to meet him some day.
Whooooo Buddy))))
Shug - you are an entertaining inspiration. Keep it up.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Super. Love it. Thanks.
Thankee.
Excellent sunset shots !
Thankee.
Part three is just as beautiful as part 1 and 2 absolutely beautiful I do thank you for taking us on this trip
This is part 2.......all there is. Thankee.
Wish I had a part 3>>>>>
Great videos! I appreciate the shots showing the loons and beaver and just the tranquility of the place. You got a great chance just to 'be'! Thanks for letting us spy on you Shug!
Love seeing the loons so close up.
Thanks for the "show-and-tell" Shug. What an amazing place to hike and camp. Someday I'll get out that way...Someday...
You should for sure.
That was a great trip Shug! Thanks for taking us along. I was laughing when you woke up hearing creature noises only to realize it was your stomach growling, I had the same thing happen to me a couple times on trail too.. :) That's too funny. Can't wait to do that trail.
Grrrrrowwwllll!
Shug thanks for sharing this great trip with us. If I never get a chance to see BWCA (but I would love to) I now know what I missed now that place is beautiful.
Hope you get too.
Just watched part 1 last night - gonna have to wait til after work today to watch 2! Great start to the week, thanks Shug!

Maybe because I was alone and in a hurry for Gordy's!
That was a beautiful spot for a campsite!
Third time there.
Good stuff! Always enjoy watching Shugs hiking adventures! Also love that opening music. Good job sir!
Mucho Apprecioto.
What a beautiful sunset! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Robbie.
Watching these made me realize that a solo trip on a trail (as opposed to paddle/portaging) might be the perfect way to do my first solo adventure.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences man.
Less to deal with in my opinion. Strap on the pack and go.....
that sunset view was pure 👁 🍭 along with the song, PERFECTION👌
Many thanks.
Ha loved it and loved that little silo-wet dancing. :D
Thanks....I rarely dance.
I shall say, this is a masterpiece of a trip and video! I didn’t want it to end.
Wow, such talent in your singing too.
Mucho appreciato Mark
Looks like a winner of a hike. We tried Gordy’s for the first time last weekend after a day trip on the SHT.
Hope you enjoyed it.
A pair of very enjoyable videos. Sound wisdom, too. Best wishes from the Tarheel State.
Thankee.
Beautiful sunset
Amazin' it was live in person.
Excellent footage!
Thankee.
Man that was a gorgeous sunset !!! Thanks for sharing. Have a good one.

So much peace in this video
Oh yes.
Oh, and I love the loons!! They are such a beautiful bird.

Thank feller. It was a great moment out there.
Loved the timelapse intro! Anecdote : as your timelapse was finishing, my living room lamp, that is on a timer, just turned on! ;)
I think that bear scat you found was one of those hikers. ha TFS!
No sign of toilet paper though.
Life is good! Thank-ya Shug!
Pretty good. It is what a feller makes it.
Thanks for your videos.
Love the wildlife and scenery.
Quite different from where I live in the tropics in the land down under.
Keep 'em comin' !
Fair dinkum~~~~
Thanks again Shug! You're really enjoying nature and wildlife there!
Big enjoyment.
