Nice to see y’all hoofing in NC. It would sweet to see y’all hit the Uwharrie Recreational Trail. This is a trail I visit often, and I’m sure y’all would enjoy! Happy Trails!!
AND EARLY TOO EARLY I TELL YAZ!!! Thanks. Always love these. Glad you and your friends are well. It looked to be a Harrier Jump Jet following you guys along in the woods. Nice to have good air support just in case. Tick reports from the Ozarks this year are worse than usual and they are normally very bad. Bamboozle the ticks if you can. Thanks again and so good to see you guys together again. Hope the M/K faired well through another dormant season. He may not be angry, but instead just weary of people trying to bleed him each Spring to make syrup. Peace.
Shug, you really took me down memory lane on this one. As a boy I lived outside of Goldsboro, and also lived for years on the coast near where you hiked. I miss the jets! Great video!
I loved your video of the Neusiok Trail. I just did it my self two days ago. My first thru hike solo. For me it was challenging at my age. But I loved it and will keep on hiking.
You do live an interesting and well balanced life sir. Another great video that helps me cope with 10 hr days in a cubical with only occasional backpack weekends on the AT...love how you cover so many different trails!
Great video. Wilbers BBQ is one of my favorite places to eat. Glad I was able to be a small part of of trip and to be able to meet you. No rocks but lots of roots on this trail. The Neusiok Trail is 21.5 miles. When I started hiking the trail I tried to research it and found little to nothing about it so I developed a web site about the trail.
great to see you out and about on such a glorious sunny day. i hike in the mountains for the peace and quiet but always look forward to the occasional fighter plane making low level training flights across the lakes and valleys below , it just adds to the day.
My previous comment vanished. This is my neighborhood!!! I'm very disappointed that I missed a chance to meet you. If you ever come back let me steer your towards Roland's BBQ in Beaufort NC. They have great BBQ pork, ribs, and fried chicken. The planes you saw were harriers, soon to be replaced by the new F-35. And yeah, they all buzz around at all hours of the night. It's the sound of freedom! Most folks on the trail hear more mosquitos than planes. They grow em big in that swamp. Glad you had a good time. How about giving us a heads up next time!?! I'll treat you to all you can eat at Roland's!!!
Yay trial videos!! My boyfriend and I did our first overnight hike this weekend on part of the SHT, it was really short, but we are super over weight and doing it for weight loss. All inspired because of your videos!! we even met some fellow shug fans at the camp site we stayed at.
Yea buddy, that logging road walk just past the "pond" you're going to walk on tomorrow killed us. I enjoyed that trail but not sure I'd do it a second time. We hiked North and camped by the pond. Murky but tasty waterish product. Enjoyed your cinema, looking forward to part two!
Great to see you guys back together again. High light of my year. I had a thought, it would be cool if you had one of those night cameras that hunters use that take a pic when it detects motion. Would be fun to see what animals wonder through camp while you're asleep. Take Care.
Great dancing footage Shug! NC BBQ is incomparable. Changed my life. If you are ever in the outer banks, swing by the marina right before bonner bridge for some shockingly good bbq.
Looks like you had quite a relaxing mosey hike........Sam in frint of the sunset looks like #TheHoundOfBaskerville ha ha I wonder about those sleeves you are wearing at 08:20 are they to keep your joints warm and protected or in fact specially made so you can kneel in the sand without getting all sandy?
Yesssss...they’re back! Love when you and Maple King go on adventures! My best friend, four other ladies and I just got back from the Red River Gorge in Kentucky...good times! We also had a full moon and a hyper Whippoorwill lol. Excellent video..thank you for sharing!
"ain't gonna be no bamboozling, I'll come and TAKE IT!" That's right Hickery, you tell him. I like that Eldorado. I also like that Neusiok. Carry on...
Hey there Shug, I just want to thank you for helping me get into hammock camping. I appreciate your videos, I find them both instructional and entertaining. I have a question for you: I'm planning on thru hiking the superior hiking trail in June, how terrible are the bugs around there during peak bug season? Thanks shug :)
Dang it! I should’ve watched this video FIRST! I hiked the southern end of the trail up to the Copperhead shelter and back to my car. The Northern End is much more scenic. I’ll be going back for a 2nd round.
Love that eastern BBQ! They make it different here in the mountains! I like the looks of the warbonnet hammocks. Thinking about breaking away from the diy✌️
I've just gotten most of my backpacking stuff (hammock instead of tent naturally). Since you have done a few NC trails, what would you recommend for a first outing? Was thinking of around 3 days to start off. Though I wouldn't mind trying for more days if needed.
I want you to know, after years of watching your videos, I can't hear anyone say early without myself (hopefully in my head, but sometimes out loud) saying "EARLY?!?!". It gets some weird looks. Some of my friends know what I'm talking about. :) What's the origin of that anyway? I also can't watch water boil without going into Karl's voice (again, usually in my head but sometimes out loud and scaring my wife) going "Mmmhmmm. That's a purty boil". You're the best man. I've been re-watching a lot of videos lately to get me motivated to get out there and get to camping more this year.
EARLY....12:08 in this video explains it th-cam.com/video/s-MBWU0FQV4/w-d-xo.html Trying to get motivated to get out myself. We had a deep freeze and family matters kept me home. Now we have a warm up to the 40ºs. Hard to want to go out in slushy snow.....
Love these Shug videos. Missed ya' buddy. Good to see you out swinging in your hammock again. I'm glad it was a tick that found you and not one of those copperheads or cotton mouths. Geez you guys live dangerously. Give me a bear any old day. 🐻

Love your sense of humor and videos Shug! I love marzipan too! I live in Southern California and have never tried or even seen the Mozart bars. Where do you buy them and how much are they? Amazon has a bar for $9.99 if I read it correctly. thank you.
My coworkers always look at me funny when they see me watching a video of a grown man laying on the beach, but I don't care. A new Shug video is worth the weird looks!
You're a decent way from the beach when you are in Goldsboro from my point of view. I admit growing up east of I-95 colors that opinion though, if you aren't less then 30 minutes you aren't that close. If you make it out towards Sylva, SW of Asheville, stop at Saizon in Cullowhee or Kosta's in Dillsboro and you won't be disappointed.
I understand living for the Q. Man, it's been to long since I've been out there. I forgot that trail was east of Havelock, my brain was telling me on the Neuse between Kinston and New Bern. I hope ya'll made it to Morehead City for some seafood.
Shug, your arm healing up okay? I gotta admit that stuff sack/ ridge line organizer idea is pretty nifty... I'm a-scairt of the Maple King, but mebbee all the pines will keep us safe! Hope you have better luck with your Pop-Tart Roulette! Some store brands are mighty good!

Hey Shug, how or where do you get all these random candies? Would love to see a video of all the crazy (read unique and def would try) little snacks you have up north. We don't get any of these down here in Bama! Also, how do you prepare your instant coffee for the trip? I know you had a bit on it in one of your videos but can't remember..

shugemery yeah buddy! I just got to a hotel today after camping for 2 months at Jordan Lake State Park. Got to wash gear tomorrow. Enjoyed the video Bro, thanks for visiting NC. Let me know next time you jet set it and I'll link up. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Still dying from the pig in a puppy scene. That's my spot otw to the OBX.
I love camping near the shore and listening to the hum of the Water Fairies. Thanks Shug!
Loved it too~~~~~
Looks like a nice hike... Thanks for sharing, Shug.
With those USMC Harriers providing close air support, it truly was, "all secure in Sector 7."
Air support is a right goodie.
Since I started watching shug a year ago or so, My friends have started to look at me weirdly everytime I’m repeating early.. EARLY!
As well they should.
EARLY
Hahaha same here
Yea Haa....the hickory BROTHERS are back!
I'm kicking back in my hammock watching it right now.....thanks Shug!
Whoooooo Buddy)))))

We did go. In next video. Did Dutchmans Creek too.
shugemery awesome! Can’t wait to watch it. The Dutchman is a nice little workout! Happy Trails!

Skylight was amazing)))))

Wish we could go to ALL the BBQ joints. We keep the trips on the QT a bit.
Thankee.
Hickory really needs to publish his journals of the adventures you two have. I would definitely buy it.
Haaaa.....would be more a pamphlet than a book!
Just took part of that trail last week. I camped near the shore. It was beautiful.
It sure was a different kinda trail.
@@shugemery Indeed, the swamps weren't my favorite, but the route I took, the beach was my payoff. I ended on the Neuse coast line. :)
Coool! Looking forward to part 2! And it was nice to see your promo video, would be nice to see your show someday.
Kittos Marko. It was sure nice.
Fantastic, looks a beautiful trail.
We enjoyed it...and bbq!
Brother this looks fantastic. Makes me miss home a bit. Don’t miss the heat! Great to see a new hiking video.
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Yay trial videos!! My boyfriend and I did our first overnight hike this weekend on part of the SHT, it was really short, but we are super over weight and doing it for weight loss. All inspired because of your videos!! we even met some fellow shug fans at the camp site we stayed at.

I strangely enjoyed the lonely road walk. The road where all go to dump their old furniture!
I love Linville Gorge area. Grew up down on Harkers Island about an hour from Morehead. We vacationed a lot in Pisgah national forest quite a bit.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Great to see you guys back together again. High light of my year. I had a thought, it would be cool if you had one of those night cameras that hunters use that take a pic when it detects motion. Would be fun to see what animals wonder through camp while you're asleep. Take Care.
I always though that would be cool to come and see what stares at me whilst I am sleeping in hammock.
WOW, came right by the house! Glad to see you back in NC!
It was so nice to be in blooming NC after a long Winter up here in MN.
Loving it! You two are great together and I thank y’all for the wonderful view of the adventure!
Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Great dancing footage Shug! NC BBQ is incomparable. Changed my life. If you are ever in the outer banks, swing by the marina right before bonner bridge for some shockingly good bbq.
BBQ!!!!
Just back out at that spot along the Neuse River hanging out a couple of days ago and it has gotten warm enough that I did not need a TQ.
I saw that on HF!!! Nice you and your son.
Great viewing shug, nice to see the hickory brothers at large again. Will the maple king be making a show I wonder. Looking forward to part two.oh yeh
Was a great time. Maple King....wait to see.......I will say no more.
Haha "Three tired, exhausted, sleeping babies" that one got me good. That's some good sleeping right there.
I did not soil my diaper but slept and drooled!
Good to see you and Hickery back on the trail.
We sure had fun.
Great to see y'all again. I have a question about the bug netting. Does it stifle the air flow at all?
In 90º heat...yes a bit. A small battery fan helps a lot.
Love you man. I really needed a Shug hiking video tonight and you came through for me. Thanks brother.
Happy to serve!
Looks like you had quite a relaxing mosey hike........Sam in frint of the sunset looks like #TheHoundOfBaskerville ha ha
I wonder about those sleeves you are wearing at 08:20 are they to keep your joints warm and protected or in fact specially made so you can kneel in the sand without getting all sandy?
They are UV sleeves for protecting my arms from the sun. Had a melonama at my left elbow a few years ago. Also keep sweat from running in my hands.
Hickory Brothers make my day! Thanks for the video and I look forward to the next episode.
My names Sean....his names Kent.....
May 14-Happy birthday, Shug! 🎉🎊🎁
I thank ya'!
It's 5:30 in the morning, best check what's going on in sector 7...
Crack of Dawn is nice.
Always love seeing hickery brothers hiking together
Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Welcome back Shug!We all missed you!
Thankee but I been right here....th-cam.com/users/my_videos?o=U
Good to see you and Hickery on the trail again.
Our yearly jaunt. We had fun.
It is so amazing to see summer.
Thanks shug.
I loved it. All was blooming.
Yesssss...they’re back! Love when you and Maple King go on adventures! My best friend, four other ladies and I just got back from the Red River Gorge in Kentucky...good times! We also had a full moon and a hyper Whippoorwill lol. Excellent video..thank you for sharing!
Those whippoorwills are relentless. Glad you got out there.
Great to see Wilbur’s BBQ! I grew up in Goldsboro and am pretty sure I could take their sauce intravenously ;)
Great place. Potato salad was good and different.
Whoo buddy, nice video but your drone doesn't stay in the air very long!?!?
Lazy Drone.
awesome video. Never heard of that trail but thanks for showing it. Looks a lot like florida.
I've had the sticker for that trail in my Nut Hut so needed to see what it was about.
My Aunt and Uncle don't live to far from there. Looks like I need to make the trip.
Shug and the Hickery Brothers are back in NC! Whooooo Buddy)))
Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
"ain't gonna be no bamboozling, I'll come and TAKE IT!" That's right Hickery, you tell him.
I like that Eldorado. I also like that Neusiok. Carry on...
We did about 3 trails. Spent as much time in the car driving as on trail.
Hey Shug, did you upgrade or change your camera? Maybe it's just me but the clarity is astoundingly clear!
Had the camera for a while now...just using higher settings. Sony DSC-HX 80
60p 28M (PS)
I had my most miserable hike ever on this trail a few years back. Good to see it is enjoyable in the right conditions.
I see how it could be hot and buggy!!!

It is very hot and muggy this time of year. It was nice in may. Fairly easy trail in the right weather.
I would recommend the Uwharrie Trail for a beginner.....th-cam.com/video/QN4Ih3hpRwg/w-d-xo.html
Cool, thank you very much. I shall look into that one then.
I havent watched but I'm already getting goosebumps!

I did a trip in April for a winter overnighter so I have been here. Maybe you just missed some.
Thankee.
I can only get out when time allows so I get on trail when I can.
Winter was long!
Winter was long here too. I think it has finally given up and allowed spring to come. I saw your April winter over-nighter. It was awesome. I just enjoy your hiking trips so much that I can hardly wait until the next one. 😀

I pack it and stick it in a suitcase and check it in.

Righto and off we go....
What was up with the exposure at the start ? Seemed way over exposed?
Yes...my setting got wonky. It happens.
How is that Be Free water filter system still working out for ya Shug? Was thinking of getting the 1.Liter.
Dillon! take a look at Rapid Pure's scout, it does virus and you can extend it to get even faster flow. I swapped it for my Sawyer squeeze. Never got sick with a Sawyer squeeze, but since the scout does viruses and bacteria thought I might as well go with it.
I like it for a quick drink whilst hiking.
Andy Jarman Got a link?
Dillon! got the name wrong. Have a look here: www.rapidpure.net/product/scout-hydration-system/
Are yall planning to come down to the uwharrie trail this summer?

Being me I always get weird looks. Thankee.
Yes yes yes!! A hickory bros episode!! Great night
Thankee.

HOW'D I MISS THIS???? Must be the Mad Cow Disease! Man I love a good Shug and Hickery trip video!
It was a nice and different trail to shuffle on.....
If you end up in Burke Co. you have to stop by JDs bbq! I also recommend stopping by Carolina burger just up the road in Lenoir!
Never enough time for all...thanks.
shugemery that is so true, but its also one of many reasons to keep coming back.

Are gators an issue or concern on this trail?
We saw no gators. Not sure there are any there.
Oh Happy Day! Callooh Callay, Whooo Buddy!
Whooooooo Buddy))))
The Jet clip, looked like a Harrier. Never a dull moment on this channel! :D
We were hovered over one night we think.
It definitely was a Harrier.
That'll be the USMC Tigers flying out of Cherry Point, Havelock, NC.
The F18s are prolly coming up from Beaufort, SC
I’ve been waiting for this one & you didn’t disappoint! Your review of the strawberry pop tart was hilarious!!! Looks like a fun, easy trail to hike. Can’t wait for part two. Take care Shug.
