Rossi has told many stories regarding this, one of them being that it came from combining the names of two people whom he and Young met in Germany named Gerd and Ulla (Gerd UND Ulla, put together to form "Gerdundula"). This story seems very plausible - so says wiki
this is one of the few most monumental versions Status Quo has ever performed. the 4 solo guitar battle on mutually played instruments (Rhino plays Rossis guitar) is one of the finest and most honest masterpieces ever performed in rock history.
It has an intriguing feel to it - I want to say Celtic, but that doesn't seem quite right. Regardless, it's a great song and evidence that Status Quo aren't limited to any style.
My eldest brother who died in 2016 was a drummer... He was brilliant but never got the recognition he deserved, like most fine fantastic people out there. Miss you bro ♥
Your dead right friend. What makes is so good is that the boys know it's silly. I've been at loads of gigs over the years and I don't think Gerdundula has ever been the same twice. Francis, I think, loves to muck around with it
Mini Gazoline god bless to you man,,!! & I can say when I was a kid my late gran, rip , was a fan ! !remember when I was playen the quo she liked,,!! before my gran past away 1989,!!
I’m 70 .. I still love them.. I still remember coming home from band practice in 1972 a pretty blond English girl was there, we went back to her place & she put Quo on .. Dog Of 2 Heads.. instant fan.
beamish1000 Was this com about Quo being good, or just letting everyone know you are rich ? Sounds like you are unhappy deep down, and being poor, young (and happy) is STILL in your blood and where you really want to be. If so, perhaps you need to get back to your 'original' status quo.
I love Quo and women from the Far East so this is my sort of song. Yes married to a wonderful Chinese girl from Sichuan and now I cant use a knife and fork BLIS David.
Have liked the Quo from early 70s,! from when i was a kid,! & even my gran liked the Quo,! but sadly she is not with me now, but hope she can still hear me playen the Quo, still some times now ,! RIP gran,!
Thanks , pal,, its great to hear that some "young" people out there likes them ,! am 45 & still always like the quo,, from Alister , Portstewart, northern ireland,.
Unless Francis brings AL & JC back full-time, I think it's time to put Quo to rest. You could just about tolerate the name being continued when Rick was in the line-up, but just Rossi on his own from the Frantic Four is not enough to justify keeping the name going.
Love this song, but I end up with it stuck in my head for weeks!!
Nothin wrong with that

Right Nelly Tilus. I saw them 4 Times in Germany. But they didn't play this Song in this great Performance. It's so sad
It has an intriguing feel to it - I want to say Celtic, but that doesn't seem quite right. Regardless, it's a great song and evidence that Status Quo aren't limited to any style.
It's simply fun to watch the guys at play and listen.
This is one of the greatest songs in rock history. I have seen Status Quo perform izt several times. Each time they have played iz gave me a shiver.
My eldest brother who died in 2016 was a drummer... He was brilliant but never got the recognition he deserved, like most fine fantastic people out there. Miss you bro ♥
Rick's finally given up. Fair play. One of my guilty pleasures, this one in particular.
Brilliantly silly!!! ;) Great drum solo!!! Love this band!!! :)

Long live Quo!!! :)
Matt is a musician......not just a skin basher.
Hell! A wicked masterpiece - can´t even hear ONE mistake on the drums...
I like how Francis fluffs the one line that he seemed to fluff in the original recording, like a happy accident his brain won't let him reproduce
love it when they mess about when playing.,love this song x
Is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.... Is incredible song.... The greatest Status Quo....
been a QUO fan from when i was a kid from the 70s,!! & i still now as a 46 year old,! keep rocken ,!/ make it now,, am a 50 year old, now,!!!

Für mich die beste Band, bin mit ihr aufgewachsen. Wenn ich deren Lieder höre, habe ich Erinnerungen an meine Kindheit.

YO ESTUVE EN UNO DE LOS CONCIERTOS DE ESA GIRA, CUANDO TOCARON GERUNDULA FUE UN MOMENTO MÍSTICO, CAMBIANDO LAS MANOS DE GUITARRA ENTRE ELLOS
This people makes me want to buy a Telecaster
Can't go wrong with a Telecaster, that's a serious six blade knife.

Saw the Quo at the Blue Lagoon in Newquay in '72, this was probably the best in the set.
no es por criticar pero escuchenla con violin, para mi gusto le da muco mas vida a lacancion
Esta guapa la versión de luar, pero lo siento me quedo con la versión de mägo jajaja.
Saludos!
anyone who knows about drums?interesting to hear his opinion

the original is what I'd describe as Acoustic Quo. One of the ones that's hard to beat.

Stunning !
