    To me the Molotows are made for like concrete walls , stones etc as I only know them from Graffiti shops. So them having the "hardest" nib makes sense to me, so they can withstand a rough underground without breaking. I do like the refillable options on some colours though. For big junky nibs I still prefer edding markers (open stock and the base colours available ) otherwise i do enjoy a brushnib for most paper artworks and usually there is a rather inexpensive set on amazon I keep on repurchasing. I always prefer a mix of brands ,like I do in coloured pencils because different brands bring different things to the table and of course price and availability also are a factor of what I get.

      That's a really good point, thanks! Yes - I first knew Molotow from their spray paints!
      Which are the brush markers you like may I ask? Are they quite juicy ones? I've only tried the Karin Decobrush ones, and they were a little too dry for my liking. I think I'd also need spare nibs.

      @helencryer I use the acrylic Paint Markers with a dual Tip/dual colour , so for example i have the 24 Pack that would be 48 colours. And i bought the 36 Pack recently . They are not branded but i always get them from the same seller . They have a giraffe on the Cover on all size Pack Versions. I find them quite nice for the price point. They are obviously not lightfast or anything. I think they are advertised for rock painting. For quick and Abstract doodles and small illustrations in my sketchbook they do a good job. Except for one faulty on in the big pack they are juicy but since there are 2 colours in one pen, they run out quicker and get dryer than, let' say a standard Molotow marker.

    They sent me their Simptap acrylic brush pens and I enjoyed those. These also look fab Helen, and compare well to Poscas and Molotow. 😍

    Hullo Helen, I have found that acrylic ink is very different from acrylic paint! Ink has more water less pigment and less binder, the paint has more pigment and more binder too! This is why the paint has a lightfast quality. Lightfastness it is pigment generated quality. As such the more lightfast the pigment is the more lightfast the paint is too! I believe that paint markers are not truly made for paper! Rocks, glass, cement walls and brick are ideal examples for surfaces and using paint markers. The exception might be the Karin markers that are more for surfaces like paper, canvas and such. thank you for posting your video was very nicely done in quite informative. Please take care and have yourself a lovely day!

    Great review Helen. Toolie art has a huge range of pens in two nib sizes. The set I love is the natural earth tones, you might like them for your landscapes.

    Well I purchased the arrtex marker set after watching you swatch the pens and compare. I would love to see how you incorporate acrylic pens in your work. I know you did the chicken but would love to see how you use these in real time in your work!!! very informative.

      My preferred paper for Molotows is Hahnemuhle 200gsm beige toned watercolour paper. It is pretty good for not pilling in my experience. It’s true they tend to rough up paper. They’re amazing on canvas.

    I suppose the only thing to consider from both a cost and environmental standpoint that I don’t think you mentioned is (correct me if I’m wrong as I don’t own any) I believe the Molotows are designed to be refillable? I’m very impressed by the number of passes on the Baohong though! I bought some artistro markers a while back to see how they compared to poscas and wasn’t overly impressed - but most of the new brand markers out are the type that don’t need shaking or pumping and I’m somewhat skeptical they’d ever be as good. I initially specifically looked for non brush nib markers as that just felt wrong to me and what most of the new brands are bringing out but now I’m quite curious to try them in part because I assume it’ll tear up paper less. Nice to see a set include things other than just brights though.

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, you are correct - Molotow make refil bottles for their markers. I'm not sure why the other markers can't be refilled either, once the nibs are removed.
      The only brand of acrylic brush markers I've tried are the Karin Decobrush ones, but they weren't as juicy as I'd have liked, and I think the brush pen nibs are more prone to fraying and losing a nice tip, than the harder bullet nibs. I do like the idea of them though.

    Thanks for this! The arrtx look good to me but my concern is lightfastness. I already have a full set of molotow so I don’t need any more pens! (Unless they’re really good ones)

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      To be honest, I'm not sure how much I trust the lightfastness of any of them, except maybe the Liquitex as they have different individual ratings. I'm not trusting them on things I'm selling. I should probably do some more research on this though! Have you found any reliable info on the Molotow's?

    • @riverAmazonNZ
      @riverAmazonNZ 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ molotow says “excellent UV resistance”

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @riverAmazonNZ Yes I know, but do you know if that's reliable? Posca say similar, but aren't.

      @ oh ok! I’m not sure, but an artist named Tim Baker did a year’s test along with a bunch of other things and they performed well. It’s on his blog. I’ll keep looking for any official info.

    I honestly think any paint markers work decently well, but you have to consider which ones you can buy replacements for. Poscas I can find at my local Michael's, Molotow I can order online, but Arrtx I would have to buy an entire set. So that's a good thing to consider. I personally love my Poscas!

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is true, but after trying out the Arrtx set today, I'd be tempted to recommend to someone starting out, to get these, and just add/replace individual colours later (from another brand), or I might even experiment with refilling them with Molotow inks.

      Sorry! To be honest, I lump all Acrylic Markers in the same kind of camp as Paint Sticks - a bit of fun, and not something I trust on work I'd sell. Posca for example claim to be lightfast, but from my own tests I know not all of them are.

      @ art supplies aren't cheap. I generally try to choose lightfast options. It makes my creative life easier. But doing my own tests is definitely on my list.

      I think that might be how it's pronounced. It's a German name, so the 'w' is pronounced 'v'.
      I actually slipped up a couple of times and said Molo-tow instead of Molo-tov!
