Not enjoying the culture or expecting things to be just like the country they came from. Also not being willing to explore or learn about cultural difference or even foods. I know the summer I spent in Mexico as a teen allowed me explore culture and learn so much more about the place I was staying and to this day it has had a lasting impact on me. I found amazing places that if I was not open to it I would have missed. You touched on this a bit but being ridged in your plans. On Mon we are doing xyz so on and so forth. This creates blinders and missed memories and experiences.
The city government of Paris, France made arrow singn on the walls and on sign board at all underground train stations to make it easy for foreign tourists to find their desirable platform and trains just by following those arrows. But on underground train stations in Istanbul there is no such thing, and that's why, foreign tourists who can't speak Turkish get lost.
Also, there is not information desk at Istunbul Airports, Sultan Ahmet, Taksim, Bhasphorus, and Grand Bazaar for tourists to find travel information to explore all 39 districts of Istanbul, and to visit Princess Islands, Sogut, Bursa, Izmit, Izmir, Konya, Antaliya, Alaniya, Capadocia, etc.
On the evening of June 7, 2021 my wife and I took a cab from our hotel to Taksim square, went to Mustafa Hafiz's, picked a cake, and headed back to where the Taxi cab driver dropped us earlier. There were three taxi cabs at the drop off point. A man asked us where to, we showed him the address to the Sheraton where we were staying and he said go to the first cab, it is 10 TL. We were surprised that the price was half the price we had just paid the driver from (20 TL and we tipped him 15 TL.) I got kind of suspicious with the low fare and my suspicion grew especially when some guy other than the driver opened the front passenger door and said to me "you in front, she in the back". I refused to sit in the front and leave my wife in the back all by herself. We both got in the back. I told my wife to pay him right away because I did not want any surprises when we get at the hotel. She gave him a brand new still crisp 10 TL. This legal tender bank note we had just received from one of the exchange bureaus less than two hours earlier. The driver refused to take the money claiming that he does not take money and that only "The Master" outside takes money. I said well give it to him. He took the bill and looked at it and said that he can't accept it, that he can only accept bills with serial number that starts with the letter L. He said the one we have start with a D and by law he is not allowed to take any banknote that does not start with an L. That the banknote we gave him is only good for shopping but not good for use for payment to hired taxis. So, my wife tried to look for another bill in her wallet which she never took outside of her purse. She gave him another bill that he also refused. I myself reached for my cash clip and gave him another 10 TL bill, he also refused my bill because it did not start with an L. By now he had turned around kneeling on his seat facing us and started reaching for my wife's purse and for her wallet telling my wife "let me show you lady, let me show you". My wife had her both hands protecting her wallet while at the same time she and I were pushing his hand away from her wallet. Next with his other hand he pulls a few US dollar bills out of his pocket showing them to us and saying "I have money, see I have money, please lady let me show you, I'm sorry, I'm sorry lady, see I have money". He once again tried reaching for the wallet inside her purse and we both kept pushing his hand away. Now, I don't know if his attempt was to distracting us into looking at the cash in the one hand while the other hand steals cash from her wallet, and I am not sure that me refusing to sit in the front foiled his attempt along with his buddies outside to grab her purse. My wife had over 7,000 in US dollars in her wallet plus the 1,700.00 TL she just received when she earlier exchanged $200.00 at an exchange bureau. I myself had $3,000.00 in one pocket, and in another pocket 1,700.00 TL. As I managed to push his hand away from her purse, I looked at the jerk and told him "that is it we were leaving." I told my wife to hurry up and zip up her wallet and purse. We immediately jumped out of the cab and hurried away as he and his buddies kept shouting "Excuse me, Excuse me". We called the hotel and they told us that they've never heard of such scam about bills with certain letters in the serial number (later on I found a website that mentions others who had similar experience with taxi cab drivers trying to pull the serial number trick.) The staff at the hotel wanted to help us getting a taxi but we couldn't tell them where we were exactly in the Taksim area. They told us they can give the cab driver our number and that we in turn could give him our location using WhatsApp. Luckily while we were still on the phone with them a cab driver was dropping off some people, we showed him the hotel address and he said that he will take us there. This one was either ignorant or also wanted to pull some trick since he took us to a dark area and told us to get off and that we were at the hotel. We told him the location he was dropping us at is not the Sheraton, he kept insisting that it was the Sheraton. We refused to get out of the cab and we kept showing him the address as he kept insisting that the piece of crap place he was dropping us at was the Sheraton. Eventually, he himself got out of the car and went and knocked on the door to that place and some teenager came out and looked at the address on my wife's phone. He punched it in google maps on the driver's phone and told him to follow the instructions. We made it to the hotel but needless to say my wife was shaken when we arrived there. He asked for the same fee1 we paid earlier, we gave him the 20 TL plus 15TL as a tip and we thanked the lord we arrived safe out of these two nightmares.

As a Turkish who visited İstanbul last month, I had my eyes opened when I saw the prices in historical places. Simple souvenirs like magnets, bags, tiles and small statues are sold for very very expensive prices. Tiles are not even handmade, they just print it’s designs on beer mat or something. Don’t buy anything from these scammers. Just take a day to go local places like public bazaars to buy some souvenirs, you will find them very cheap.

I lived in Istanbul for a couple of years but haven't been there for 10 years or so. I agree with just about everyone regarding souvenirs. The best souvenir you have is your memories. Even in the bazaars, most of the stuff is mass produced. If you want something, if you're going to mosques, you'll need a scarf. They sell cheap ones in the area and they're great souvenirs. Second...don't miss (what I called) 'The Bosphorus Experience'. There are official tours and such but what I mean is, don't forget to ride the ferries. The metro is fast and all but the ferries are just such a nice experience and when you get off, make sure you find the best fish sandwich you will ever have - the balik ekmek.

I'm a French Canadian who just finished a 14 days trip to Turkey. I really enjoyed it. I visited Istanbul and Ankara. I don't like overbooking because when I'm on vacation I like to stay somewhere for some time and develop a daily routine. It helps to chill and relax instead of being in a hurry to catch up the train for the next city and manage your bookings everywhere you're going. My first Airbnb was in Pendik. I had an amazing view of the Marmara Sea from my private terrace at the top of the building. In the first day or two, I walked around in the area and ate at a local Turkish restaurant. The waiter didn't speak English at all but I was using Google Translate on my phone to communicate and it was working relatively well. I was eating lahmacuns all the time because I love this food so much! (I'm also pretty difficult with food. I hate vegetables and it's difficult to find a meal without vegetables anywhere, not just in Turkey) I saw a few famous food chains like A&W, McDonald's or Starbucks, but I didn't want to enter in those shops because I'm already familiar with those chains in Canada and I would feel like I'm wasting time if I eat in food chains that I already know in my country. In most Turkish restaurants it is possible to find meat without vegetables on it if you look carefully and I had no problem. There's one thing I particularly enjoy when visiting big cities and I do it in every place I go : spotting all the third wave coffees near me on Google Maps and visiting them. They are usually located in random neighborhoods who are not always very touristic. It helps me to find random areas. I walk a little bit in the area and when I'm tired I just go in the coffee and chill there for an hour or two with my laptop. They usually have a good Wifi because those places are very popular with the student population who comes there to study on their computer. And the opening hours of those coffees are very flexible in Turkey, I was shocked : they are closing at like midnight or 1AM. Meanwhile here in Canada it's difficult to find any third wave coffee open passed 8-9pm. This movement originated in the US but every third wave coffee is unique. They usually emphasize on an art concept and they are really cool. They are typically owned by local people. They sometimes have their own brand and they can be chains, but the most common international coffee chains are not third wave.
I visited the most touristic areas for sure (blue mosque, Ayasofia Mosque, Galata Tower, etc) and I took the ferry to have a good view of the two shores of the city (European and Asian shores), but I was mostly moving using the public transit because it's the cheapest way to move around. One quick advice : if you are in Pendik, it is indeed pretty far from the city center, but I would recommend to take the 16D bus because it crosses the entire city and it goes directly to Kadikoy which is a very popular area on the Asian side with many restaurants, coffees and shops. You will mostly see Turkish people on that bus line and you can see the whole Asian part from the window. Kadikoy is also less crowded than Fatih or Karakoy and more frequented by locals. Although I was heavily relying on my GPS to know where I am and where to go, I sometimes liked to leave my phone in my pockets and walk blindly in the city without any specific destination and just look around me and see the scenes of people living their daily life.

Because most people only come to see what interests them and if they are visiting turkey once they get the info they don't need more. Since this channel is about turkey only most people don't care after they have visited and dont need to see any more videos. The way to get more subscribers is to do more countries or more cities around turkey to increase the views and likes.

We have been to Slovenia too! And let me tell you that I looooove it! We were there 2 years ago in summer, we only visited Ljubljana and Bled but we would love to go back, we enjoyed the great eco friendly environment the country has, we rented some bikes and I was surprised by how friendly cars are towards them!

I have been explored Istanbul in my last trip, next I want explore antalya and cappadocia...,
I have a holiday place in a place called "Altinkum" or "Didim". I really recommend it, and it has so much history like the Temple of Apollo in it, and many great sights within view. It's a very beach-like place, and I recommend restaurants like "Marvi Kitchen" etc. You need about one day, and remember to visit the beaches - we have many so make sure to do your re-search or beach-hop.

@@sheri9107792 Also, if you do visit Didim, remember to go to the Mount Beşparmak lake and have a wonderful Turkish Breakfast by the lake - you might see ducks on your lap, but don't worry. It's a great experience, as long as you land at Bodrum Airport. If you do, we hire a car and just drive all over from there, spending about a week there and in other places too. (Totalling to about 2-3 weeks).
