  • Hi everyone! Welcome back. I've been building my stash since London came home from the hospital since my maternity leave is so short (7 weeks) and I will likely have a drop in supply when I start working. My milk stash was 3x has much as shown in this video and we still ran out by the time he was 9 months. Luckily we were able to get some donor milk and I was able to continue breastfeeding until he was 14 months.

  • @yojs17_
    @yojs17_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks for sharing! Building a stash can bring lots of anxiety for moms. I had lots of milk when I went back to work at 8 weeks with my son (not quite has much as you however). Since I consistently pumped at work every 3 hours, the milk that I pumped at work I would use to feed my son for the next day. So I had tons of milk that I saved during my maternity leave that I never used and ultimately had to toss 🙁. Thanks for sharing those products, as clogged ducts are absolutely the worst and I had clogged ducts when my son was 9 months. I used a back massager to unclog my ducts because it was so bad 😪. I tried the Hakka pump when I was on leave but I found the suction very painful, but I will try to again when I have my daughter in January. I breastfed my son for 14.5 months and I pumped at work for 12 months. My advice to all mamas is that there will be good and bad days but just don’t stop breastfeeding or pumping, that is how I reached my goal of 1 year.

      Thanks so much for your words of encouragement!! Breastfeeding is a difficult journey..there were so many times I would just cry because everything I tried didnt seem to work.. poor latch and tongue tied issues are hard to overcome..and he started to cry histerically when i would bring him to the breast.. i wish i was still breastfeeding him now..but at least he got 4 months of breast milk.

    I had a pretty huge stash with my first without really trying and ended up giving it all away because my baby didn’t need it all 😭. ,so this time I intentionally pumped less while on maternity leave and I definitely am feeling like I’m not making as much. I’m three months post partum and My stash is much smaller so I’m starting to panic thinking about the “what if’s”. I needed this video to remind me to use my Hakka more. And the massaging while pumping is good advise that I had forgotten about! Thanks!

    @4032950563 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jenny! Thank you so much for this video. Because of this great informative video I’m able to stash away more milk for my 5 week old son. I was just wondering, while you’re pumping/breast feeding do you switch sides? Or do you just keep on pumping on one side and feeding on the other till the very end? how long do you pump for? Also, what position do you have London in when you’re feeding him and pumping at the same time? It’s a bit tricky and scary to me because I don’t want my son to kick the hakaa with milk in it.

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I try to switch sides but right now the flow on my left is too fast for him so he prefers to nurse on the right. I just leave the Haakaa on until he finishes nursing or it’s full. I nurse London in just the regular position (whole body in the front. He’s too long for football hold). If you flip the top funnel part of the Haakaa down before placing it on your breast, it has a much stronger suction. I have not had London kick the Haakaa off as of yet. Good luck!

    Is it true that when a type 2 diabetic mom breastfeeds, her sugar levels will go back to normal?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glucose levels is a systemic issue. Which means that it’s in the blood and affects the whole body. You are burning a lot of calories while breastfeeding but I’m not sure if it will always bring your blood sugar back to normal. Especially if it’s really high to begin with

  • @kellylee3879
    @kellylee3879 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jenny, I saw that you were using Medela manual pump for earlier vlog and this video mentions Haakaa. Comparing these two, which one would you recommend for pumping at work for 1st time mom (easy to use, clean)? I dont have much privacy where I work so I'm thinking manual might be easier than electronic pump (that requires plugging to the wall unit and noise). TIA

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t get anything from the Haakaa when baby isn’t nursing on the other side. Other people have been able to do it though. The manual pump is discrete and quiet but takes too long. There are electric pumps that are very quiet and has a rechargeable battery so you don’t have to be connected to the wall like the Spectra S1.

    • @yojs17_
      @yojs17_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Breastfeeding is definitely hard. The first 1-2 weeks was the hardest for me, but after that it became easier. I pumped at work until my son 1 years old and nursed at home. I saw a lactation consultant at 4 days which was my saving grace because I was ready to quit because of the pain. My advice is to don’t stop nursing or pumping until you reach your goal. You will have good and bad days but just keeping going. I had mastitis, clogged ducts, low supply but I just kept my eyes on my goal and it got me through it. Best wishes!

    • @kelly1827
      @kelly1827 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the US, most working mothers only get 6 weeks of maternity leave, and for those who do, it is often unpaid. as a result, most moms are going back to work before their baby is ready for any solids at all, so it's a EBM stash or formula. Even with a C-section, I would have only had 8 weeks with my first baby if I hadn't banked all my vacation time to extend it to 10 weeks.
