I being living in Geneva for two years and now returning back to our home country, and I find a very very interesting and sometimes surprising for the way people from out of Switzerland thinks about how can be living or de desire to be in Geneva or Switzerland and what is the reality. Plus other things o find to no much people comment about and just let it pass .. but thanks for share this

One point regarding suburbs in Zürich though that you thought were rather non existent: I think in general Switzerland is a little special and interesting in that regard, the country is so small and compact and urbanized through and through to the point where it's difficult to categorize smaller towns and villages if they are a separate entity or a suburb to a bigger city nearby... I agree that Zürich feels very industrial especially to the north towards the airport in places like "Oerlikon" but in the east or in the west behind the hill of zürich there are towns that could be considered "typical suburbs"... again it's a little different because morphologically they are detached from the city proper but the degree of urbanization with public transport getting you to the city centre in something like 20 minutes it's very suburbial... the zürich metropolitan area is often even defined as reaching towns like "Zug" in the south, an independant town by any means and in it's own Kanton but because of the degree of urbanization it can be thought of it that way...

I still think Geneva has the prettiest suburban area. Places like Hermance, Carouge, Cologny, Jussy and then you can add Canton Vaud. The French area of Haute-Savoie and the Jura are very close. Thanks for the comment

i have been working in Geneva and i like the city very much because it's so international. Now, I am living in Winterthur which is quite close to Zürich. Different kind of people...although Zürich has nowadays lots of expats from different kind of countries.

Funny and interesting. Perhaps just a small thing about « suburbs »; its mostly the western part of Zurich where the intercity-train passes that is quite industrial. You should take the train from Zurich to Rapperswil and you will discover beautiful suburbs along the lake like Colony in Geneva 😊

Hello, thanks for the info. I have actually been there. I still think Geneva wins the suburbs but that’s my opinion. Both are beautiful cities

Good video. Now that you compared Geneva with Zurich, how about comparing Geneva to Lausanne and also Montreux. I am planning a trip there in 2025 summer and wondering which city should be my base. I assume you would favor Geneva but there are folks who vouch for Lausanne and even Montreux.
