      Montreal - broken health care system (worst I've seen) and highest taxes in North America but a beautiful and entertaining city to live in with great access to the outdoors and nature.

    Lived there 3 and half years. The pros are that salaries are very high (I work in the IT industry), it's clean and the city is very safe, the cons are that it's so boring especially during winter (and summers aren't that much better). Weekend trips to the mountains get boring after a while. Zurich people tend to stick to themselves, they aren't very open to befriend foreigners but that's not a big problem because there are lots of expat in Zurich. The city is very expensive and even though high salaries can offset the high cost of living some things are ludicrous...meat for example is stupidly expensive. Most foreigners tend to stay in the city for a couple years and then move on so friendships are a bit fleeting. Another con is that dating in Zurich sucks...Swiss women are, how can I say it...boring?They are closed off and not much fun, let's put it this way. It's a very conservative city in many respects. Overall I think it's a good place to live for some years, there are lots of career opportunities but if you're young it's possible that after a while you want to move to more "vibrant" cities.

      although I don't love your comment on the dating scene, I can respect it, and as a Swiss myself, I would agree on Zurich being a bit of a boring city. I don't find Zurich to be an especially vibrant or interesting city. It's very grey in most places, both places and people. But yes, salaries are good and things (transportation, admin stuff...) usually work fine.

    Swiss people are not cold, they are more reserved than some people but once you get to know them they can become good friends. Our climate is colder so maybe that makes people a bit more reserved because winter is longer, you are more indoors during this time and people from hotter climates are more outdoors, so they tend to be more exuberant. What makes the world interesting is that we are not all the same.

    I suspect that it was a former American who said that the taxes were too high in Switzerland, Americans hate paying for the well-being of others.

  • @edwin.jansen
    @edwin.jansen 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Haha! That darker lady is very funny! Calling Swiss taxes very high! She should come and live over here in the Netherlands for a while and pay taxes here. She will find out what the concept of high taxes really means very soon! And yes of course Zurich taxes are among the highest in the country, but in general Swiss taxes are compared to other western european countries very very very low, also considering the much higher wages in Switzerland. In general, I would say that the living standards and buying power in Switzerland are even a step better than in the Netherlands, even with the higher prices. Prices in Switzerland are only high compared to other countries, not compared to it's own. Of course, prices in Zurich will be higher than for instance in Graubunden.

    • @deaddeadtape
      @deaddeadtape 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vmoses1979perhaps you can comment on all the people calling the Swiss boring as well. They have a right to not be insulted in absolutes. In contrast, saying that a woman has a darker complexion to explain who you are talking about is not racist at all. if a white woman is surrounded by black people it would be no problem to say the "lady with light skin" for identification purposes. You are triggered by the wrong things and clearly a slight racist.

    • @vmoses1979
      @vmoses1979 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@deaddeadtapeHaha. Yeah you clearly are not familiar with the English language and culture. Commenting on someone's appearance whether race or features like a big nose or large forehead is considered rude. Saying someone or a group of people is boring is not rude or insulting. At most it's impolitic - you can look that word up. And as for the last sentence, all I can say is - projecting much.

  • @romielle
    @romielle ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Actually Swiss people can be very open hearted and social. We are just a bit reserved in the beginning and maybe seem a bit cold because of that to foreigners. Especially a lot of young people are really open minded and much more welcoming when they meet foreigners. So I think going to places where there are a lot of young people might help bonding with Swiss people... It might come off as a boring city, but that's mostly when you are in the more common areas where there are mainly tourists and rich economy people. For example in summer a lot of young people are at Lette (a place to swim) or at Chinawiese doing a picknick. There is also a lot of nightlife. It depends on wether you are into like more fancy nightlife or more alternative/artsy nightlife. Fancy night life people would love Kaufleuten. Alternative people are more out and about at Hardbrücke or Langstrasse region: Exil, Zentralwäscherei, Hive, Zukunft, etc. I think in Zurich you just kind of have to find your corners and places to be in order for it to be a cool city and not just a safe, pretty and boring one.

    Poor children of Zürich, not even mentioned by anyone.
    But clothes and shopping is pretty hip. At least 2 real locals are born in swiss.😅

    i moved last year to switzerland and to be honest it is so boring here, everything is expensive. Everything what you earn you need to spend for bills. As a foreign person, you have worst chances to get a good job. The sallaries are much better than somewhereelse on the world. It is the best place to live in Europe, because it is safe and clean, the system is the best. So let´s say it like that. If you want to have a normal, boring life with a family come here. If you want to have friends, good parties and fun, than don´t move to switzerland.

      Unless you are an expat of course. Then you will be ‘friends’ with the other expats and can have a lot of fun. Getting Swiss friends takes time and a lot of patience and willingness to learn the language and really understand Swiss culture. I know Dutch people who have some Swiss friends. But they have been living there from an early age. As always life is not white or black, but lots of shades of grey.

    Sorry but these people are not realistic. 2000 what? Like impossible firstly you pay 2k for an apparment in average, 1000 for insurance (health, car, apparment) also in average not the best coverage. Then transportation and food ajother 700. Taxes another 500-800 per month. Some additional cost like electricity another 200. Clothes (not branda) snother 400. This above is for 2people living like hsbnd wife. But still we manage to spent 10k per month without luxury and without some expensive holidays going mostly back to our country where we do not pay for foor and accomodation…. Seitzerland is craaazy expensive

      Hello rosasa :-) Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
      We want to make the videos as authentic as possible. All the people we asked live in Zurich. Hence the numbers are realistic. It depends on what lifestyle you life and also maybe in which part of your life you find yourself (student, single, couple, family etc. ). Have a great Sunday evening! Best wishes from Claudia and Jan!

      Hello Ana Ma we appreciate your comment and are sorry to hear that you found the answers of some people too long. We cut the answers already and I think the anders of the people we interviewed are authentic. Sometimes you can not explain some thoughts and emotions just in the a very short length, since some critical information gets lost then 👍 What do you think? Maybe you can elaborate a bit more on what you said, that you found answers too long.
      Wishing you a great Saturday!
      Best,
      Jan and Claudia

      Hi Jack. Thank you for your comment. Obviously the people in this video are not representative of the 100% population of Zurich. That would be almost impossible! We decided to go to the city center and interview those who came across us and were willing to be on camera 😊 Plus the city center is the greatest spot to talk to strangers ✨
