  • 👉 In this episode, I interview Sally K Norton, author of Toxic Superfoods, about the dangers of oxalates in our food supply. We discuss how oxalates can cause numerous health issues like arthritis, thyroid problems, and more.
Sally shares her own health journey of discovering oxalates were the root cause of lifelong issues like joint pain and sleep disorders. We talk about high oxalate foods to avoid, like spinach, almonds, and sweet potatoes.
Sally explains how oxalates accumulate in tissues over time, leading to oxidative stress and inflammation. We discuss the best ways to detox from excessive oxalates. She provides tips for healing oxalate dumping syndrome.
Sally shares inspiring stories of patients improving from serious autoimmune diseases and chronic pain by lowering dietary oxalates. We talk about the lack of oxalate awareness despite evidence over centuries of its toxicity.
If you want to learn more about reducing your oxalate load and improving health, don't miss this insightful interview! Be sure to check out Sally's website and book using the links below.

For a more balanced view, listen to the videos from the Goodbye Lupus (Brooke Goldner) channel, and Dr. Sarah Ballantyne video on Oxalates. The problem is clearly misunderstood, and the problem with eating oxalate plants is hyped. Vegan Haters with closed minds (as are many Vegan nuts) will not admit the truth. I am not a Vegan, either, but they have as much good information and results as Keto and Carnivore do. Just look for the truth.

Actually after 2,5 months of being a carnivore I had intuition that oxalates are the main problem in our bodies . Everybody eats them. I have been a vegetarian for 12 years and last year I ate a lot of nuts and sweet potatoes and my problem in joints was getting more nasty . Thank You and greetings from Poland. Thank you Both so much -Dr. Sally, for patiently answering the same questions since the book came out. Dr. Suresh, thank you for being informative - not every phisician is aware of those dietary issues. I have been experiencing lower "abdomen pain" for about 2 months - I am just finding out it's oxalate dumping. I had no idea something like this existed!!! I've been experimenting with carnivore diet (few months). I've now narrowed down to a few foods I can eat. Hardly any pain anymore ... We tend to forget that a lot of our food is sprayed with Glyphosate which is horrible for the intestines and creates leaky gut. Research articles show that damage to the gut is directly related to oxalates and kidney failure. Much of the attacks on you or us is by the vegan community regarding these warnings against eating certains vegetables. You can't criticize any plant based foods without receiving their wrath. If you critized animal based foods they would remain quiet or applaud you, of course. In the keto community which I'm a part of, cutting out nuts and some greens is a conundrum. Tip toeing around different wholefoods is tricky and confusing. We must ultimately follow the path of what is healthiest for us.

The only nut that's served me well is walnuts. Soaking overnight, blending, and straining a liter of walnut "milk". I'm totally carnivore but this one thing made me feel great. I also am fond of utilizing toxic plants such as papaya leaf blended and strained as wasp sting medicine and anti parasite/stomach issue resolver. drinking papaya leaf juice neutralizes all kinds of animal and insect toxins.

the benefit you felt may be from the reduction of oxalate dumping... Also, you may want to add some calcium chloride to your blend and see if it cancels out the effects...it could be a way to neutralize the oxalates which may be causing a reaction known as "counter irritation" ..one way to test a theory anyway...

No. Unlike lectins and phytates, oxalates aren’t typically destroyed or denatured through cooking, and often cooking makes them worse (likely by breaking apart cells and releasing even more!) boiling may slightly reduce due to some leeching out into the water though.

      by Lacey Eaden:
.."most urinary oxalates are actually the ones formed naturally as a waste product in the body, less so from dietary oxalate. However, for those prone to oxalate kidney stones, a lower oxalate diet could still be beneficial to limit the number of oxalates reaching the kidneys. Cutting the oxalate-rich foods in your diet alone will not reduce the likelihood of forming calcium oxalate kidney stones as reducing dietary oxalate is not the only way to avoid kidney stones. In fact, drinking sufficient amounts of water to dilute urine to prevent oxalate collection in the kidneys remains the #1 recommendation."

I think, some aminoacids (eg, hydroxy prolin) in collagen metabolize into oxalic acid in the liver. I might be wrong though...

Does drinking water right after a high-oxalate meal help flush oxalates from the kidneys?

    • @karolynann4106
      @karolynann4106 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, read on the Colorado State University website an article called, "Should I be Avoiding Oxalates?"
      by Lacey Eaden:
..."a specific type of bacteria that resides in the gut called Oxalobacter formignes breaks down oxalates and uses them for energy. This process prevents oxalates from binding to minerals and limiting their absorption. Studies have shown that people with low levels of oxalate-degrading bacteria in the gut and those with certain digestive disorders are more prone to higher levels of oxalates in the body."
..."most urinary oxalates are actually the ones formed naturally as a waste product in the body, less so from dietary oxalate.

I wish one of these interviews would cover the pee test. Is it an issue that you wont be dumping oxalates while you're getting too much of them? Would be curious about evidence

I'm a flexitarian, i.e., mostly vegetarian for over 50 years and get a lot compliments on my skin and people can't believe how old I actually am, etc. People ask me what products I use and I don't even use lotion at all, just a drop of grapeseed oil with a little water on my skin. No puffiness in my face at all. So everyone is different when it comes to what diet they thrive on....
