The Paul McCartney song that the rest of The Beatles despised

- With a back catalogue as extensive as that of The Beatles, there is a fair chance that a selection of songs will cause slight debate around certain creative differences. A few stinkers slipped through even in the 71 songs that Paul McCartney wrote for the Fab Four. One particular song, however, didn’t just annoy the usual suspects of John Lennon or George Harrison, but the entire band.
❤All songs by my Beatles are GREAT!
The very MOMENT I saw the video's title, before I even pressed, "play", I instantly said to myself, "Maxwell's Silver Hammer".
I think it's a great song. It sounds like John, George & Ringo hated all the time they needed to spend on it and never liked it for that reason. It's difficult to appreciate a song that you heard and worked on over and over and didn't enjoy the process. It wouldn't have mattered how good the song was in that kind of situation. It was bad memories for them.
You make a great point. I’ve heard many artists say they hate a great album, simply because they had a bad experience making it.
And unlike some people on here, I think you should be able to hate or like any song you want! Good for you.
I like the whole album. No complaints. That said, however, I should add that I think George was the best writer in the band. He certainly wrote more great songs after they broke up than Paul or John. And he most likely influenced more musicians than the rest.
For one more twist to this comment... I Want You (She's So Heavy) is my favorite song on the album. When I was a kid it was Come Together, but the older I get the more that has changed.
I'm so sick of everyone attacking this song. I have news for you: you don't have to like or dislike songs because your favorite Beatle didn't like them. You have the ability to have your own tastes and make your own choices.
If you can look yourself in the mirror and say: "I never liked that song, even before I head that John, Ringo and George didn't like it, then fine. But be honest with yourselves for God sake!
...the song is a waste.....Paul made his mates polish a turd for weeks and it accelerated their increasing hatred for each other. The new Jackson film is just propaganda that cuts out all the bile which eventually exploded in public with Lennon's " How Do You Sleep", where today you can see him on film adding " You C*NT" to the diatribe.
@@johnfoster535 Yawn. Give it up. You don't like the song. You don't like Paul. We're all 8th graders and we have to choose between one or the other, because "my Beatle is better than your Beatle!" I've heard it all a million times. Move on!!
Love this song!!
It’s a great original funny song.
Indeed. I can't think of anyone else who could've come up with a song that funny and strange...
Very interesting. But, without that song, we wouldn’t have Steve Martins silly rendering of it in the “so-bad-it’s-good-in-a-historic-and-cult way” movie, St Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
I never did like that song either. And I was a huge Beatles fan.
I neither like or hate that song, but dislike I a the walrus way more. I think i saw an interview with lennon where he called paul "daft" for writing it.
Funny that John made that comment - "He made us do it over & over again". John did not participate in the song at all. He just sat in the corner with Yoko.
Once they let Billy replace Paul, they created a monster. He felt he was superior as he had formal music training, and could read and write music. The other Beatles, I remember hearing in the news back in the day, were embarrassed by Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Paul never would have written something like that.
Crazy person!
They infest every Beatle channel
@@bryanmachin3738 I wouldn't call Billy crazy at all. Took a lot of guts though to replace a person who looked so different - different eye color, different height, different skull shape, different ears.
@@surfrunnerd8457 I wasn't referring to Billy, conspiracy boy!
@@bryanmachin3738 ok. Sorry I misunderstood. I had no idea you were talking about a different Beatle.
I agree with them it was never going to be a single
Ok " Max's Silver Hammer", the song was not up to par with the Beatles, Paul should have given it to the Rolling Stones for example .. ah ah ah ... But it must also be said that John's "She's so Heavy" was not better, more like crap.
How about " Another Silly Love Song!" Yuck! Sgt. Pepper stuff was like kiddy romper room stuff.
Wtf was Paul thinking?
He was probably thinking that he can write whatever damn song he pleases. Why does everyone have such a problem with this?
What was Faul thinking? Maxwell's Silver Hammer is still a lousy song. There were a couple of other duds: Because, Sun King, Octopus' Garden, I Want You (as noted below). But the others on Abbey Road were outstanding which makes it even more curious how the duds made the final cut.
Because is a dud?!! That song gives me goosebumps to this day. It’s flat out beautiful!
What are you talking about--Because is probably one of the 20-25 best songs of the entire Beatles catalogue!
@@bryanmachin3738 - 100%, Bryan! That dude needs to see a hearing specialist ASAP!
The song does suck.
