I was a home health nurse here is Texas for over a decade. I can’t tell you how many times I got directions like this. Take farm to market road heading to such and such town. About 10 miles out you’ll see a big barn on the east side. Go another 2 miles and take a left on the dirt road. Follow it for about a mile and a half and you’ll see a bunch of round bales up against the fence. Keep going till you see a green tractor on the west side of the road and we will be about a half mile down the road on the right. Can’t miss it! Lol. Good times traveling the back roads of Texas and meeting great rednecks like me! Because I understood everything they said! 😂
People have told me I give directions like that. I told them you can laugh about it. But you will appreciate the reassurance these points give you. Especially if you are still feeling lost.

Turn left at that pasture where it's a hop skip and a jump to the fruit stand. Turn down that dirt road by the fruit stand, that's Miss Mable's fruit stand, you should stop in there she makes the best peach pie as you've ever had! Anyhow,... That dirt roads going to take you across the creek. Now be careful cuz that's only a one-lane bridge so if someone's coming you got to pull off to the side. Once you cross that go a fair piece and eventually you'll hit the highway.

True story: My Buddy drives me and some buddies in my old Bronco home from a party because I’m actually too far gone to drive. That was actually very rare. He gets lost and wakes me up since we’re running low on gas at 2:30am out in BFE where even streetlights are sparse. I look around and recognize nothing. Still very much drunk af… looked at the moon… looked around the sky and surrounding lands… then told him to bounce on across this huge field beside us and I pointed in a random direction to head to on the other side. He had been drinking too… so we bounced across the field in the Bronco where there actually was a road on the other side. 2 minutes on the road over in the direction I pointed in before I halfway konked back out again… and we were ran into the exact highway he was looking for. We really do have some kind of internal radar/sonar type deal going on… Mine just works best when inebriated. 😁

You forgot ‘being okayed’ Red necks will run you in circles until you are vouched as okay. Took 12 hrs to find friends of my parents in Kentucky because we showed up asking for directions after 6pm and our friends had already gone to bed.
If we're out in the woods yeah I got a natural almost unnatural sense of direction. I don't get lost out in the woods even if I haven't been there before. However, this magical skill does not work in the city. At least not for me. Well it does generally. It's just I also can get lost in the city when I don't in the woods. There's just too much going on. Too much noise too Too many smells. And the buildings are too tall to get any sense of direction And a lot of them look really similar. 3 years ago I got lost in Boston for 4 hours. Mostly time spent Lost Around the Prudential building While trying to get to the hospital. So stressful. And nobody is helpful Down there. I tried asking several people to help me find the right way to the hospital. They are supposed to be a free shuttle to the hospital. I finally found the shuttle it said it was going where I needed to go. I tried getting on the shuttle, And the bus driver who didn't speak English looked at me and then told me to get off the bus and shoed me away.😢 Then I got lost trying to find my way to the hospital by foot. It was all very scary. I'm not proud of it But I ended up crying like a baby. More to my dad dying of cancer at the hospital I was trying to get to than being lost. But being lost in a big city would no one willing to help me and it getting dark and scary people coming out and me being a 5' 6. 120 pound woman alone, It got to me. And yes I do feel like I need to defend myself on that. I don't cry in front of people unless it's an extreme circumstance. I was raised that you don't cry unless your foot stuck in a bear trap Or someone you love has died Including pets Especially your dog. Or your pet cow, She died in my arms. I was raising her because her mother had to be Put down. Perhips got broken During birth. The calf was actually born not breathing and my dad brought Her back to life. I named or miss lucky. Unfortunately because she didn't have her mother's milk she got Call lick Colick and didn't make it After a few weeks. 😢
I tell time by the sky and the animal behavior. If the wind is coming from a certain direction you go another way to avoid the bugs. Am I a redneck? Some say I am. I just have a heightened awareness because I live with the earth not on the earth 😊
New Orleans directions are a bit different. You go toward the river (south maby) or towards the lake ( defiantly north) airport (west) but never compas directions.

I was fine until the part where he'd told me to turn left at the golden palomino. I'm looking for a business named The Golden Palomino. I was lost for 30 minutes before I saw what he was referring to. It was a statue of a rearing palomino on top of a feed store. 🤦♀️ I'm 4'10" driving a '62 Ambassador that I'd already had to start by jumping it across the solenoid when I stopped for gas. I'd just gotten off work and drove 30 miles by then. Needless to say I was not happy with my Dad when I finally found the trailride out at the a** end of BFE.

I'm sorry but y'all skip the most important thing to prepare for. We don't know roads names, some are old dirt roads. We use landmarks. Go down this road till you see an old cow. Turn left, at the big oleander bush turn left again. Not a small one, you turn at the small one and that's old man Pickets place and he'll shoot ya.
Most directions are based off landmarks generations old. "Just past Mr Brunners old farm" "you know where old Thomas tobacco farm used to be?" "Rigjt by where Tom shot that 10 pt buck few years back" ask me know i know 😉

Also a redneck will give you 10 to 20 different directions to get to that place. Mainly to avoid traffic, toll booths, bad weather etc.
