This or a god knight or just killed so many he was a threat. To me this is a label considerably close to “world’a worse criminal” of Dragon. It’s something out upon by the government more than because Dragon is a shitty dude (beside being a non active dad) But my thoughts were it had to due with his relationships much more for Marines than to other Pirates. He isn’t recorded going against Oden or other Whitebeard pirates. We get introduced to him in the most chill of seas. Which begs a few questions. Why did Mihawk want to fight? why does Mihawk hate the government so much? Maybe they fucked him over and it was a form of revenge? Maybe he IS only a pirate in name because he was against the navy, not because he EVER had his own team. Maybe he is against the navy because he had a crew and we have a Moria situation but instead of Kaido, it was the navy that killed the rest of his crew and he got away. We could have a Sabo situation where he does know about the world more than others but accepted his fate in if he could go against the gorosei or Imu but still had a grudge against them. This could give parallels to Luffy after he lost his crew as well. The title is too similar IMO to Dragon to not think it came from the WG than rumors and whispers of his skill.
I think people are conflating "beating powerful swordsmen until there was none left" with "beating *more and more* powerful swordsmen until there was none left" to mean the exact same. While both mentions defeating powerful swordsmen, the latter adds another layer to it, in that after defeating a powerful swordsman, Mihawk went on to defeat an EVEN MORE powerful swordsman than the previous. So a simple reason why Mihawk never went to Vista is that he's looking for a swordsman that is even more powerful than Shanks. Can Vista beat Shanks? :)

No disrespect to Shanks, but I think Mihawk gave Shanks a bit of a handicap so they can still have a fun battle challenge while getting the trainingand keeping their skills sharp. Note that the black blade not even Venus or Garling can forge, heck venus after 800 years... I think Mihawk has gone against Venus and Garling beating them both resulting him forging his black blade. Mihawk was introduced so early that people downplay him so much and overhyped Garling who's new and was dubbed strongest holy knight in his prime. Imagine Mihawk in his 20s beating prime mid 30s garling. I'm calling it that Zoro will forge his black blade(s) through battle against Garling, beating him. Then he will challenge Mihawk with his freshly forged black blades. Because Zoro will need at least 1 black blade, maybe Enma going against Mihawk. And maybe Kuina's wado during fight against mihawk being the first ever to forge 2 black blades, putting Zoro above that even Mihawk and Ryuma. Yeah I think we have a Sabo situation where he managed to get away. Maybe he lost his crew through it, which adds to the depression. The government probably already was shitty to Mihawk in his life due to his desire to hunt marines. It progressed to a point of depression from Shanks losing his arm to seeing the reality of the WG. We haven’t seen that he has goals to be pirate king, just to live peacefully. If his crew was killed or barely got away from the Gorosei, it’d make sense why he’d take the title as a form of surrender/ bargaining. It allows the government to find ways to use mihawks lineage factor for their own desires behind the scenes. It’s not a hard concept. Someone is given the rank of strongest swordsman. If you beat them you get the title. Just like the any combat sport. You don’t need to be 3rd place to be number 1

Here is a spoiler for all of you, one factor that makes Mihawk the strongest swordsman that you can never argue with. "Black Blade". before you say non sense, hear me first. 2 of the undisputed strongest swordsman who ever lived have something no other swordsman have, Black blades, Sword GOD Ryuma =Shusui and Mihawk Yoru. There are countless monster swordsman in one piece, Ace , Rayleigh Shanks etc. But they don't have a black blade. Regardless of how skilled and powerful someone is with a sword you can't beat someone with a black blade using a regular blade even a supreme grade blade. Why, because if the battle against someone with a black blade goes for too long the black blade will break the non black blade. Remember when Zoro fought Zombie Ryuma and Shusui, Zoro mention that if the fight drags on Shusui will break all of his blades including Wado ichimonji if this happens he will only mean he already lost. So if you wanna defeat Sword GOD Ryuma or Mihawk "you will need a black blade" and so far in all of one piece no one has one except for Mihawk.

I never thought of it, but Buggy and Mihawk both have something in common. They were both left hanging by Shanks when he put his goals on hold. Buggy lost the person he wanted to make the next Pirate King, and Mihawk lost the person who was constantly pushing him to be stronger.
Lets look at 2 facts: there seems to be a lack of strong/ high end swordsmen in the world mihawk is known for having traveled the world for 20 years, searching for strong opponents He's climbed to the top and cut off everyone else. It's like he's an endgame character in a video game who's killed everyone else on his level and is now waiting for the newbies to level up and as soon as one reaches his level, he cuts them down immediately. No wonder there's a lack of strong swordsmen.
I always wonder why Mihawk was at Roger's execution. I believe Mihawk and Roger clashed. Yoru is on Mihawks back in the flashback at such a young age. Shanks swordsmanship is heavily inspired by Roger and I think Mihawk witnessed in their duels. Once Shanks lost his arm he couldn't emulate Roger's swordsmanship to the fullest anymore.
mihawk was the worlds strongest swords man before joining the Warlords though, he was known as the marine killer, and actively hunted marines…. I think it was a title given to him by marines simply for the fact that they themselves have never meet anyone who’s even close to matching his swordsmen skill, so they started to call him “The worlds greatest swordsman” i don’t think it’s a title he went out to try an earn… think it was just giving to him from people who saw just how powerful he was with said sword. I mean if you saw someone cut a boat in half with a sword you’d also probably claim them as being “the strongest swordsman” aswell
I think the previous WSS being Garling is an interesting angle and could be connected to whatever betrayal led to the Marine Hunter title. Anything that threads Garling into the narrative is probabaly a good thing because hes such a late addition to the story. And we know Garling is stronger now that he became a Gorosei.
Oda revealed him too early because at the time of his reveal, one piece was planned to be much shorter. So for the tien being, he's just a continually moving goalpost until oda decides to show us what he can do.

I always be a fan of the idea that Mihawk just beat a yonko, probably Shiki and got the title after that which freed up that yonko spot for Shanks to take it. There always four yonko after all, so the fourth one had to be taken down for the spot to free up.
Zoro did say that Mihawk is even more robotic than an actual Seraphim. So i want to believe Mihawk has always had his Observation Haki, meaning even as a child his Advanced Observation Haki made things appear to stop in time. Meaning he never felt a threat from a blade. Shanks was different, he could block his observation haki, meaning it was the first time he could truly use his skills and fight. The feeling made him feel alive. I wanna believe that him becoming the Strongest Swordsman happened by accident, as part of his Marine Hunting. He was not aiming for it, not did he want it. But the Marines kept annoying him. To add, he was already disappointed at the fact Shanks lost his arm, so he really was bored and just wanted to be left on his own. Mihawk is a prodigy, he was a genius at swordsmanship, meaning he has never enjoyed a fight. He became the World Strongest Swordsman, not because he wanted, but because the previous title holder was a Marine that fell during his time as the Marine Hunter. He earned the title, but for him it was part of his whole Marine Hunting, he wasn't aiming for it nor wanted it. He dislikes attention. And once he got it, he got challenged a lot. At first he was looking forward to it. But he grew disappointed, no one was able to give him the thrill of the fight. Its why Zoro sparked so much interest in him. And at the same time he realized that the only way someone can defeat him is if he trains him himself.

Maybe it's a combination of reasons? Mihawk rising notoriety was becoming a bit of an inconvenience to the WC, who paid Morgan to name him the World's Strongest Swordsman in the hopes someone else would take care of him. Then fodder pirates began chasing Mihawk, wasting his time, time he could use pursuing his next worthy opponent. So to make a point, Mihawk decides to go after marines specifically, only stopping after becoming a Warlord. Doesn't explain the whole betrayal thing... Or his unspecified origin... But it's fun to think about!
On the subject of whether or not Mihawk has literally defeated every other swordsman, I'd say it's quite irrelevant. I get where you're coming from, but bear in mind that Shanks is probably the strongest Emperor at current, and Mihawk is supposed to be at the very least comparable to Shanks. Think of Kaido, right? He was often referred to as the strongest being on the planet, and it was said that "If it's a one on one, no one could beat Kaido" or something to that effect, I forget the exact wording. Are we then to assume that Kaido has 1v1'ed everyone on the planet? I reckon that Mihawk has his title as "Strongest Swordsman" because of the fact that, like Kaido, no matter how strong and renowned his challengers have historically been, it has always ended in Mihawk folding them and sending them home to mama in a one-sided massacre. Well, aside from Shanks, but they were renowned for coming to a draw, so I reckon the public perception just doesn't really recognize Shanks as "swordsman" per se, as in those are not his main attributes. He doesn't seem to dedicate himself to the philosophy of the sword, like other swordsmen, he just uses a sword when he fights. I know that might seem like an arbitrary difference, but we can see that this is a real thing in One Piece, with Zoro slicing leaves at full speed without cutting them, and cutting through rocks whilst barely swinging when he unlocked his whole steel cutting mindset.

Law is a swordsman confirmed by Oda, Roger, Rayleigh, so for you to say they are not as dedicated to their swords as Zoro is complete head Conon, Roger named his beloved son after his sword. Law uses almost all of his attacks with his sword, Oden loves his swords. your understanding of being a swordsman in one piece is completely wrong and terrible and on top of that Oda disagrees with you. Zoro is considered a strong swordsman not because of his skills but his top tier Haki. Roger, Rayleigh are strong swordsmen not because skill but their strong haki. If you read carefully, you'll notice that Oda compares Mihawk to the current Emperor Shanks, not to Shanks from 12 years ago. Oda conveys to the reader in chapter 1058 that Mihawk possesses the strongest sword skills in the entire verse (unrevealed for now) and goes on to state that Mihawk is indeed the Strongest Swordsman in the World, not Emperor Shanks, the swordsman of the Red-Haired Pirates. If Emperor Shanks' sword skills (Divine Departure) one-shotted Kid, what do you think would happen if Mihawk unleashed one of the strongest sword skills (unrevealed name attack) in the entire verse of One Piece? I bet the fandom is not ready for it, and many minds will melt from witnessing it.
I mean the thing that I always say is that characters who are going to feature heavily in the end-game are being protected/ we aren't seeing any feats from them because that would force Oda to set out the whole power ceiling early. I don't think it's a coincidence that Mihawk/Dragon and until recently, Shanks, have no fights. We are just going to have to wait until they come into the plot before we can understand why they hold such fame. I suspect that when Oda is ready to use Mihawk he will suddenly become someone more interested in fighting others.
Heres a shot in the dark. I have no evidence, but love the idea that the former Strongest Swordsman was actually Figerland Garling, but it was not public knowledge but the Government knew, and that was enough.
I don't think Zoro is going to get a chance to face MiHawk again. My theory is that Mihawk will die or get defeated by garland or well now another gorosie member...Because when you really think about it, narratively there is no reason for Oda to put another Zoro or Mihawk in another fight against each other due to the obvious outcome, kinda like Yugi vs Joey duel end not being shown. If you consider the fact that there is obviously a stronger swordsman than Mihawk based on what we've learned, it would make sense that Zoro's title will come from defeating the one that defeats Mihawk.....Sorry, this theory has just never made sense to me, even since the first defeat. It was presented as one of those fights that would not get a rematch.
I always assumed Mihawk would fight someone stronger than him and then Zoro would have to fight the person who defeated Mihawk but I don’t think that would be interesting.

maybe and Yoru is the sacred sword in holy knight history. the fact Mihawk can use Yoru or Yoru choose Mihawk to wield the sword makes him the strongest holy knight ever exist. only the strongest samurai from land of wano who can compere to him, but there is none after Ryuma not even Oden. now a samurai who should beat him is Zoro, the fact he is originaly from land of wano. ( just my theory )

They made it clear with King that not anyone wielding a sword is considered a proper swordsman. It happened in the exchange with zoro while fighting. King is a killer, a "machine" swing a tool, zoro is a swordsman in philosophy and discipline, same as Mihawk. In many martial arts championship one has to become number two in order to challenge the champion, at least top 10, so by that logic Mihawk does not need to beat every single one, only defeat all the other undefeated of his generation. Those might be two important nuances.
Yeah oda needs to expand beacuse from what we know he hasn’t defeated any of the current strongest swordsman to even make that claim, he didn’t even defeat vista so the sbs of him defeating swordsman until there’s none left currently doesent make much sense since no one of note who uses a sword has been defeated by mihawk
the title of "world strongest swordsman" might have been a burden for Mihawk. it attracted just the wrong kind of people: the loudmouths and phonies who wanted to gain some reputation by fighting (and defeating) Mihawk. true swordsman, aka the skilled ones, just might not have been very interested in such a fight - gaining nothing out of it. maybe the true sword masters might have despised Mihawk just for him having that title. they might have assumed him of being a fake swordman, refusing to fight him and test his skills and abilities. and so the loudmouth Zorro himself could be Mihawk´s biggest hope for a great challenge just because Zorro is very capable of becoming a grandmaster himself.

Hot take: Mihawk doesn't have conqueror's because he's not born to be a king, he's born to be a champion. Mihawk's signature ability will be (as both his current and early nickname imply, hawk Eye and Clairvoyant in oda early sketches) the world's strongest future sight (which also explains why shanks has devised a technique to counter future sight) and near perfect efficiency at using advanced armament. Conqueror's coating may be more powerful but fighting isn't all about strength. Mihawk is the kind of guy to become a living example of such principle.
I love the idea that Mihawk doesn't have conqueror's haki. Him being able to sit at the top with nothing but sword skill, observation haki, and armamemt haki (things literally anyone in the verse can train) is peak.
I don't think he defeated someone with that titile , it's kinda late in the story for no one mentioned it until now , but who knows , like kaido or whitebeard, is something he got know from , because they are unique strong in their ways .

To me it seems like he got the title by default. He and Shanks were both competing for it, and never determined a winner because Shanks sacrificed his dominant arm for Luffy.
Shanks wanted to be the strongest swordsman but then he got clawed in the face from blackbeard, right after that a giant fish took his arm. He blamed it on the future generation luffy So now he takes out his frustration on rookies like captain mid and Bartholomew. He rose to yonkou status by beating whos who and taking the Nika fruit. He didn't beat big mom, kaido , whitebeard or anyone strong just who's who. Now he is hyped by the Fandom as being the strongest after beating whos who , captain mid and Bartholomew. He also couldn't develop his own fighting style so he took rogers moves.

I am still stuck on the whole Mihawk catch 22 situation. Were I just don't see plotwise how it makes sense? Mihawk refuses to duel Shanks because duelling a One Armed is not honerable? He is also coined the worlds strongest swordsmen. Shanks uses a sword. So the story is trying to tell us that Mihawk is stronger than Shanks. But Shanks is clearly strong!? How Shanks really matches up against Kaido I don't know. But he would do a lot better than Zoro would right now. In fact I bet Shanks has a shot at winning. Which means why would Mihawk not duel Shanks? In fact how can Mihawk be better plot wise? Maybe he is and if he is I give him Kudos but I feel like there will be some explanation like Shanks is more powerful but only because he uses Haki and other skills or some nonsense. I don't think Oda will let us down but I feel like the situation between Mihawk and Shanks has changed over the years. Oda may have written himself into a weird situation.

If Mihawk isn’t the “real” worlds strongest then Zoros title would be fake making his dream worthless. Imagine if Sanji never found the “real” all blue or something. This or a god knight or just killed so many he was a threat. To me this is a label considerably close to “world’a worse criminal” of Dragon. It’s something out upon by the government more than because Dragon is a shitty dude (beside being a non active dad) But my thoughts were it had to due with his relationships much more for Marines than to other Pirates. He isn’t recorded going against Oden or other Whitebeard pirates. We get introduced to him in the most chill of seas. Which begs a few questions. Why did Mihawk want to fight? why does Mihawk hate the government so much? Maybe they fucked him over and it was a form of revenge? Maybe he IS only a pirate in name because he was against the navy, not because he EVER had his own team. Maybe he is against the navy because he had a crew and we have a Moria situation but instead of Kaido, it was the navy that killed the rest of his crew and he got away. We could have a Sabo situation where he does know about the world more than others but accepted his fate in if he could go against the gorosei or Imu but still had a grudge against them. This could give parallels to Luffy after he lost his crew as well. The title is too similar IMO to Dragon to not think it came from the WG than rumors and whispers of his skill.
I think people are conflating "beating powerful swordsmen until there was none left" with "beating *more and more* powerful swordsmen until there was none left" to mean the exact same. While both mentions defeating powerful swordsmen, the latter adds another layer to it, in that after defeating a powerful swordsman, Mihawk went on to defeat an EVEN MORE powerful swordsman than the previous. So a simple reason why Mihawk never went to Vista is that he's looking for a swordsman that is even more powerful than Shanks. Can Vista beat Shanks? :)

He didn't address him by his swordsmen rank of there even is such a thing. Swordsmen are sorta like the Highlander, "there can only be one". Its kill or be killed unless they show mercy. All swordsmen know about the most famous swordsmen and the rest are trying to fight the top guy if they dare. Vista just dared and Mihawk just wasn't impressed or pressed enough to kill him

Note that the black blade not even Venus or Garling can forge, heck venus after 800 years... I think Mihawk has gone against Venus and Garling beating them both resulting him forging his black blade. Mihawk was introduced so early that people downplay him so much and overhyped Garling who's new and was dubbed strongest holy knight in his prime. Yeah I think we have a Sabo situation where he managed to get away. Maybe he lost his crew through it, which adds to the depression. The government probably already was shitty to Mihawk in his life due to his desire to hunt marines. It progressed to a point of depression from Shanks losing his arm to seeing the reality of the WG. We haven’t seen that he has goals to be pirate king, just to live peacefully. If his crew was killed or barely got away from the Gorosei, it’d make sense why he’d take the title as a form of surrender/ bargaining. I don't see Zoro challenging Mihawk for the title of the strongest swordsman, without at least forged one black blade first, possibly Enma since Oden already already forged it to some degree. Grim Reaper that Zoro saw probably foreshadow of him forging his black blade with Venus, the skeleton horse.

4:37 it doesn’t technically disprove this idea. It’s possible that Mihawk got his title before Vista has become strong enough, and thus, he just kept it, because Vista hasn’t defeated him.
It’s not a hard concept. Someone is given the rank of strongest swordsman. If you beat them you get the title. Just like the any combat sport. You don’t need to be 3rd place to be number 1

Here is a spoiler for all of you, one factor that makes Mihawk the strongest swordsman that you can never argue with. "Black Blade".
before you say non sense, hear me first. 2 of the undisputed strongest swordsman who ever lived have something no other swordsman have, Black blades, Sword GOD Ryuma =Shusui and Mihawk Yoru. There are countless monster swordsman in one piece, Ace , Rayleigh Shanks etc. But they don't have a black blade.
Regardless of how skilled and powerful someone is with a sword you can't beat someone with a black blade using a regular blade even a supreme grade blade. Why, because if the battle against someone with a black blade goes for too long the black blade will break the non black blade.
Remember when Zoro fought Zombie Ryuma and Shusui, Zoro mention that if the fight drags on Shusui will break all of his blades including Wado ichimonji if this happens he will only mean he already lost. So if you wanna defeat Sword GOD Ryuma or Mihawk "you will need a black blade" and so far in all of one piece no one has one except for Mihawk.

I never thought of it, but Buggy and Mihawk both have something in common. They were both left hanging by Shanks when he put his goals on hold. Buggy lost the person he wanted to make the next Pirate King, and Mihawk lost the person who was constantly pushing him to be stronger.

I always wonder why Mihawk was at Roger's execution. I believe Mihawk and Roger clashed. Yoru is on Mihawks back in the flashback at such a young age.
Shanks swordsmanship is heavily inspired by Roger and I think Mihawk witnessed in their duels. Once Shanks lost his arm he couldn't emulate Roger's swordsmanship to the fullest anymore.
mihawk was the worlds strongest swords man before joining the Warlords though, he was known as the marine killer, and actively hunted marines…. I think it was a title given to him by marines simply for the fact that they themselves have never meet anyone who’s even close to matching his swordsmen skill, so they started to call him “The worlds greatest swordsman” i don’t think it’s a title he went out to try an earn… think it was just giving to him from people who saw just how powerful he was with said sword. I mean if you saw someone cut a boat in half with a sword you’d also probably claim them as being “the strongest swordsman” aswell

I think the previous WSS being Garling is an interesting angle and could be connected to whatever betrayal led to the Marine Hunter title. Anything that threads Garling into the narrative is probabaly a good thing because hes such a late addition to the story. And we know Garling is stronger now that he became a Gorosei.
Oda revealed him too early because at the time of his reveal, one piece was planned to be much shorter. So for the tien being, he's just a continually moving goalpost until oda decides to show us what he can do.

I always be a fan of the idea that Mihawk just beat a yonko, probably Shiki and got the title after that which freed up that yonko spot for Shanks to take it.
There always four yonko after all, so the fourth one had to be taken down for the spot to free up.
Zoro did say that Mihawk is even more robotic than an actual Seraphim.
So i want to believe Mihawk has always had his Observation Haki, meaning even as a child his Advanced Observation Haki made things appear to stop in time. Meaning he never felt a threat from a blade.
Shanks was different, he could block his observation haki, meaning it was the first time he could truly use his skills and fight. The feeling made him feel alive.
I wanna believe that him becoming the Strongest Swordsman happened by accident, as part of his Marine Hunting.
He was not aiming for it, not did he want it. But the Marines kept annoying him.
To add, he was already disappointed at the fact Shanks lost his arm, so he really was bored and just wanted to be left on his own.
Mihawk is a prodigy, he was a genius at swordsmanship, meaning he has never enjoyed a fight.
He became the World Strongest Swordsman, not because he wanted, but because the previous title holder was a Marine that fell during his time as the Marine Hunter.
He earned the title, but for him it was part of his whole Marine Hunting, he wasn't aiming for it nor wanted it. He dislikes attention.
And once he got it, he got challenged a lot. At first he was looking forward to it. But he grew disappointed, no one was able to give him the thrill of the fight.
Its why Zoro sparked so much interest in him. And at the same time he realized that the only way someone can defeat him is if he trains him himself.

Maybe it's a combination of reasons? Mihawk rising notoriety was becoming a bit of an inconvenience to the WC, who paid Morgan to name him the World's Strongest Swordsman in the hopes someone else would take care of him. Then fodder pirates began chasing Mihawk, wasting his time, time he could use pursuing his next worthy opponent. So to make a point, Mihawk decides to go after marines specifically, only stopping after becoming a Warlord. Doesn't explain the whole betrayal thing... Or his unspecified origin... But it's fun to think about!
On the subject of whether or not Mihawk has literally defeated every other swordsman, I'd say it's quite irrelevant. I get where you're coming from, but bear in mind that Shanks is probably the strongest Emperor at current, and Mihawk is supposed to be at the very least comparable to Shanks. Think of Kaido, right? He was often referred to as the strongest being on the planet, and it was said that "If it's a one on one, no one could beat Kaido" or something to that effect, I forget the exact wording. Are we then to assume that Kaido has 1v1'ed everyone on the planet?
I reckon that Mihawk has his title as "Strongest Swordsman" because of the fact that, like Kaido, no matter how strong and renowned his challengers have historically been, it has always ended in Mihawk folding them and sending them home to mama in a one-sided massacre. Well, aside from Shanks, but they were renowned for coming to a draw, so I reckon the public perception just doesn't really recognize Shanks as "swordsman" per se, as in those are not his main attributes. He doesn't seem to dedicate himself to the philosophy of the sword, like other swordsmen, he just uses a sword when he fights. I know that might seem like an arbitrary difference, but we can see that this is a real thing in One Piece, with Zoro slicing leaves at full speed without cutting them, and cutting through rocks whilst barely swinging when he unlocked his whole steel cutting mindset.

Oda conveys to the reader in chapter 1058 that Mihawk possesses the strongest sword skills in the entire verse (unrevealed for now) and goes on to state that Mihawk is indeed the Strongest Swordsman in the World, not Emperor Shanks, the swordsman of the Red-Haired Pirates.

I mean the thing that I always say is that characters who are going to feature heavily in the end-game are being protected/ we aren't seeing any feats from them because that would force Oda to set out the whole power ceiling early. I don't think it's a coincidence that Mihawk/Dragon and until recently, Shanks, have no fights. We are just going to have to wait until they come into the plot before we can understand why they hold such fame.

My theory is that Mihawk will die or get defeated by garland or well now another gorosie member...Because when you really think about it, narratively there is no reason for Oda to put another Zoro or Mihawk in another fight against each other due to the obvious outcome, kinda like Yugi vs Joey duel end not being shown. If you consider the fact that there is obviously a stronger swordsman than Mihawk based on what we've learned, it would make sense that Zoro's title will come from defeating the one that defeats Mihawk.....Sorry, this theory has just never made sense to me, even since the first defeat. They made it clear with King that not anyone wielding a sword is considered a proper swordsman. It happened in the exchange with zoro while fighting.
King is a killer, a "machine" swing a tool, zoro is a swordsman in philosophy and discipline, same as Mihawk.
In many martial arts championship one has to become number two in order to challenge the champion, at least top 10, so by that logic Mihawk does not need to beat every single one, only defeat all the other undefeated of his generation.
Those might be two important nuances.

the title of "world strongest swordsman" might have been a burden for Mihawk. it attracted just the wrong kind of people: the loudmouths and phonies who wanted to gain some reputation by fighting (and defeating) Mihawk. true swordsman, aka the skilled ones, just might not have been very interested in such a fight - gaining nothing out of it. maybe the true sword masters might have despised Mihawk just for him having that title. they might have assumed him of being a fake swordman, refusing to fight him and test his skills and abilities. and so the loudmouth Zorro himself could be Mihawk´s biggest hope for a great challenge just because Zorro is very capable of becoming a grandmaster himself.

Hot take: Mihawk doesn't have conqueror's because he's not born to be a king, he's born to be a champion. Mihawk's signature ability will be (as both his current and early nickname imply, hawk Eye and Clairvoyant in oda early sketches) the world's strongest future sight (which also explains why shanks has devised a technique to counter future sight) and near perfect efficiency at using advanced armament. Conqueror's coating may be more powerful but fighting isn't all about strength. Mihawk is the kind of guy to become a living example of such principle.
I love the idea that Mihawk doesn't have conqueror's haki. Him being able to sit at the top with nothing but sword skill, observation haki, and armamemt haki (things literally anyone in the verse can train) is peak.

I am still stuck on the whole Mihawk catch 22 situation. Were I just don't see plotwise how it makes sense? Mihawk refuses to duel Shanks because duelling a One Armed is not honerable? He is also coined the worlds strongest swordsmen. Shanks uses a sword. So the story is trying to tell us that Mihawk is stronger than Shanks. But Shanks is clearly strong!? If shanks was a shichibuikai we know that the gorosei, the world leaders would be like : well, we can get ride of the other war lordes, but shanks is here you know, his conquerors is comparable to fucking joyboy, he obviously need to stay. If Mihawk isn’t the “real” worlds strongest then Zoros title would be fake making his dream worthless. Imagine if Sanji never found the “real” all blue or something. If Shanks is the “real” world’s strongest then Zoro would have to defeat Shanks for the title but if the world government is pretending Mihawk is the strongest for reasons lol then Zoro would be pissed because his goal is to have his name reach the “heavens” so even that cope is against Zoros dream. Shanks isn’t even going to be top 5 by the end of the series. He still either be defeated by Luffy or Blackbeard and then there’s the Gods Knights, Imu and the Elders and the Seraphim that are made to surpass the originals but knowing Oda they will have draw backs because the green blood is needed as fuel.

This video is full of head canon, first of all you shouldn't use movie film red because that's non canon to the story, Secondly. Mihawk wants to fight someone stronger than shanks so is Vista stronger than shanks ? obviously not. Vista is literally fanboy of Mihawk aka Vista respects Mihawks title. Vista never said Mihawk you are a fraud because you didn't fight me but the whole fight was Mihawk distracted and Vista fan boying, btw Mihawk showed respect to Vista too.
