While I do have some original hardware, 3ds etc, the games are to expensive and hard to find because collectors online drove the prices through the roof. I just got an anbernic and it’s got so much on it for free. And I’m sorta ADD. And I switch games every couple of minutes. Great videos man. Love from Canada!
I think the shift in prices began when they had an episode of Pawn Stars with a one million dollar graded copy of super mario brothers (NES)... and suddenly every retro game was rare at every yard sale. I think the emulation has opened up retro games to a massive audience. I'd never have tried so many games if it wasn't for the cheap emulation hand helds... Their is a great platform called pico-8, I haven't tried it yet, but you should do a video on that system.
This is an interesting subject. You mention that you prefer original hardware but also say that you've modded systems to bring them up to date. To me that isn't the original experience any longer and if I'm not going to being having the original experience then why wouldn't I just emulate the system and get all the benefits that brings? It's the same with flash carts which have the same downsides as the retro handhelds in that they may not come with games and you're going to have to plug an SDCard into your PC. Once in the handheld won't give the same experience as original cartridges. I was going to comment on the PSP on your older video but I'll put it here. The PSP isn't even the best way to play its own games any longer. I have a Retroid Pocket 3+ to which I added Playstation symbol buttons and use it pretty much exclusively as a PSP, replacing my actual PSP. Upscaling, cheats, save states all make for a better experience than the actual hardware and playing with a proper analogue stick is brilliant. The RP3+ can play all the emulators the PSP can, and run them better, as well as others which includes a little PSVita emulation. Jumping ahead now to your Odin 2 video to see what you think of a more modern retro handheld. Really enjoying the content so far.
