I saw Mahogany Rush at Cal Jam II in '75, then waited in line all night (before Ticketbastard) to get tix at the Long Beach Arena box office later the next year and scored front row/center seats! What an amazing trip that was! Frank...shredding and sweating right there in front of us! I continued to see him dozens of times...last time being about six years ago or so. He is one of the most incredible and underrated guitarists of all time...especially live!

The California Jam #2 I know of was in 1978. The original was in 1974.

Mahogany rush did not play in California jam 1 which was in 1974 he played in California jam 2 which was in year 1978 I remember it was on TV I came home from school it was on channel 7

Probably one of the only hard rock bands that kept a psychedelia thing going throughout the 70s. And Marino is one of the best guitar slingers I've seen.

Not the only one at all.. Tons of psychedelia all through 70's. By its nature it is long song jam band stuff, so it was not in 3 minute hit song format. They called it prog rock in the 70's. Like YES and bands like that
@@michaelcraig9449 I was referring to heavy rock bands, not prog rock. Many heavy rock bands were particularly 'psychedelic' in the early 70s, such as Scorpions, UFO and Black Sabbath. By the late 70s most of the heavy bands were morphing into straight arena rock and heavy metal, while Marino's band continued to seem psychedelic throughout the 70s.
They were Acid rock early on. To an extent

With sorrow I am forced to announce my immediate retirement from touring, and possibly all things related to continuing my career, due to an unexpected and debilitating medical condition which makes it impossible for me to tour. I want to thank all the people who supported me all of the last half-century. I know that many were looking forward to seeing us play this fall and I was looking forward to getting out again and doing more shows, but it now appears that in the absence of a miraculous recovery, my Concert DVD (Live at the Agora) will constitute the last show I will ever have played. I ask any that are believers to include me in their prayers.
I had tickets to 2 shows that I had to get refunds for in 2021. So sad he had to cancel, and yes, my prayers are with Frank.

I still remember high school 1978 when a kid by the name of Chuck, loaned me a tape, and said listen to this band, they're called Frank Marino and Mohogany Rush. I'm still a fan, I have Frank Marino on my jogging playlist. Fortunately got to see him live. Amazing Amazing guitarist
Bought the LIVE album in 78 when I was 14. Good thing I was alive back then for that. Burned it into my DNA.
About this time a friend gave me a copy of frank Marino live..I was ate up with it.one of the best live albums of all time.he can really play..I can't give points for creativity but the feeling and intensity was sure there
*Met Frank Marino when Mahogany Rush 1st came to Atlanta; Paul Harwood, Jimmy Ayoub, and their manager Paul Levesque were all very friendly and humble to my friend and me. From that time on whenever they came to Atlanta I always had 2 tickets at will call. Jimi Hendrix inspired me to play guitar but Frank Marino influenced me. I remember watching this when it 1st aired. Mahogany Rush always brought it when they played. ✌❤ & 🎶*
Great story, thanks for sharing man. I am in Canada so always enjoyed Frank's music. I am big time into Jimi, but Frank and SRV were just fantastic too! I will be posting a few more Mahogany Rush clips in coming days. Hope you enjoy those too!

I am fortunate to have seen both Hendrix and Mahogany Rush in Hotlanta. Underground in 77 and then Marino at the Road Atlanta concert in 80. Marino Stevie and Robin are examples of what Hendrix could have matured too if he was still alive.
I cant believe this video only has 320 thumbs up right now. All Franks videos should have millions of views. If you ever saw him in concert, it was way more mind blowing than you can see on a video
I saw him so close in a small venue that he was actually sweating on me ( I was pressed up against the stage at the time ). Still to this day the most awesome concert experience I have had, and I have been to plenty of concerts over the years.

I remember seeing these guys playing in church basements in Ville D'Anjou for $2. and they supplied the pizza. I also saw them open for John Mayall at the forum sometime in 1974. They were a great live band to see.

Wow. I remember reading about them in Beetle magazine, some Canadian rock mag. This was before Child Of The Novelty came out in the US. Said they were from Montreal. To an American at the time, Montreal wasn't known as a rock city. When I got the album, I learned otherwise. :-) Peace.

I seen frank Marino and mahogany rush in Cleveland Ohio at the music hall in 1975 great guitarist and band we sat in the 5th row general admission never forget it such power and knowledge of the guitar saw. Him with my cousin Gail.
This was my introduction to Frank and Mahogany Rush and I've been listening ever since.

Ah yes, when late night Saturday TV rocked balls. I got to see Frank Marino just a few feet from the stage at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY in the mid-80's.
He would let people stand a few feet from the stage at his concerts and it did not bother him. It would have bothered me

I had the Strange Universe album and it got a skip in it, however, the skip was in the perfect spot to keep repeating an incredible guitar riff over and over. When people would come over and get high I would play it and wait to see how long it would take before they would notice the same riff was repeating. Sometimes they never would... they would just groove on it!

Frank and Uli Jon (Ulrich) Roth were peas in a pod back in the 70's. They both took the Jimi Hendrix style to a new level. No one else matched their abilities in their respective style of playing back then. Tell me I'm wrong.

The Gibson SG is truly an underrated iconic guitar. While the Stratocaster and Les Paul seemed to be the 'Ford/Chevy' of rock guitar legend, the SG was always there....
Frank came to the Sellersville Theater several times. I saw him there three times. Fantastic each time.

Wow, we had a dj in B'ham Alabama back in the 70s who loved Frank , that's how I found out about him, back when FM radio didn't play the same songs over and over. Never got to see him live though.
Back when I was a kid when I'd ask if someone knew about Rush they'd ask: Mahogany Rush? Later it was the other way around.
Saw him at a Day on the Green in Oakland(1979) and he was clearly the baddest guitar player there, even with Ted and Angus and Joe Perry. I also had tickets to see him and Covid hit so it got postponed, and then he became ill and retired. Really bummed but I hope you recuperates!

Ace was not qualified to lick his boots! NO this was the style back then, platform shoes and boots for a couple years, even non musicians just regular folks wore them some.
From 3:30 minutes onwards they do the lever tricks Hendrix created in "House Burning Down", and at 3:50 onwards he literally transcribes the ending of this song where Hendrix simulates a motorcycle in his recording! Very cool!

I saw Frank in a billing with Humble Pie, not bad, Mothers Finest, ok, and Angel was headliner over Frank! That was not a good billing at all.. That was like The Monkees and Jimi Hendrix..not even close at all..
That tour they bands rotated the headline spot. I was disappointed when I saw this tour, after having seen the spectacular performance on the "Tales From The Unexpected" tour in 1979 where they played for two and a half hours including four encores!

Frank is a real good player and seems like a heck of a nice guy...but GEEZ, ya' think you could sound any more like Hendrix? I mean that 2nd tune was Third Rock from the Sun with a slightly different melody. Same "swooshing" wind, same spoken word thing...but what the heck, still fun to hear.

True. Two of the three songs were off the second Canadian album, which was more Hendrixy than the second two albums, where I think Marino found more of his own sound. Tales of The Spanish Warrior really doesn't sound all that much like Hendrix, for example. Either way, he definitely could play and hit some great notes.

I could see a live concert every Saturday night! from the trips music of Mahogany Rush to the blues of Albert King. Black Sabbath or Frank Zappa.Motor Head was doing it to the man on Kirsners and the network said no more of this and began to do anything to end our battle of the bands. The Wolf man began to replace the show and finaly no more saturday night jam.
Bored as shit and channel surfing I ran across ETV and like a bona fide miracle The Don Kirshner's ^rock concert with Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer was in the middle of Mean Town Blues. Damn I am truly a fortunate man to have been right in the damn middle of the time when music changed the whole damn world!
