About time it was SIR Rick Wakeman ... musicians like Rick are few and far between now, he is a unique and multi talented all round entertainer and a brilliant raconteur
Not sure he cares, could have made it happen if he did
Literally bumped into him once in Liverpool Street Station, whilst listening to White Rock on my headphones.... I said, Oh its you!... Yes it is, he replied.... true gent.
If you love Rick's anecdotes, I highly recommend Rick Beato's recent interview with him, also on TH-cam - 'Rick Wakeman On Prog Rock, Keyboards and His Legendary Career With Yes'
Absolutely agree about the Rick Bento interview, a wonderful hour of anecdotes, lifting the lid on the music industry of the 60s and 70s.
A great interview. Rick makes mainstream interviewers look like amateurs.
It’s a fab interview. The whole harpsichord story is great.
My main inspiration in my career as a musician I adore everything Rick does and seeing Grampa Grumpy doing his thing brings a tear to my eye. That man has shaped my life 💙
Matt Wharton ...... 🔔🔔🔔
I wholeheartedly agree ‼️
Merry Christmas 🎅🏻✝️
Rick is a true living legend ❤
Rick is a true talent 👍 He’s never been up his self like so many so called celebrities. He’s the sort of guy you could spend a interesting evening down the pub with 👍 thanks Rick
I could not agree more.
Totally True
The fantastic, charismatic Rick Wakeman, a bona-fide national treasure!
Over here too.....🇺🇸🇬🇧
Just saw his magnificent last US show‼️
Global Treasure!
Rick is a national treasure.
Actually an international treasure.
Adore Rick Wakeman - everything about him. His naughty sense of humour, his Music, his unbelievable never-ending fountain of creativity (love all the radio shows, the TV shows, the performance creations, etc.). Plus he's just so damned cute. I'm amazed he's never been knighted. When I think of the ne'er-do-wells who HAVE been - it seems a major slap in the face. This guy has single-handedly kept more than half the Musical community in Britain working for more than half a century - as well as bringing his Music and Prog Rock to the ENTIRE WORLD community. What more does he have to do ?!? Slit his throat and bleed on stage, for Pete's sake ?!? So glad I was born in the same era (I'm actually just a few months older than he is). He once said - on "Desert Island" - that more than 90 percent of Prog Rock audiences were men . . . Well - I am happy to be counted in the 10 percent of WOMEN who LOVE Prog Rock - specifically HIS Music. Look after yourself, Rick - so we can keep you around as long as possible. 💖💖💖
There is a lovely talk with Rick Wakeman talking to Rick Beato on You Tube.
Rick is super funny and tells a great tale
Rick & Simon at Christmas is becoming as memorable as Eric & Ernie at Christmas. Seasonal greetings gentlemen.
From The Strawbs to Cat Stevens, Yes and Bowie ... incomparable
Thank You :-)
Thank you for sharing this treasure piece Christmas show with Rick Wakeman playing. What an honor. Merry Christmas from Indiana.
I was honored and blessed to meet Rick in the mid 70’s after a Journey To The Centre of The Earth show in Memphis. I was in my late teens. He offered me a Heineken and during our discussion handed me a few hundred dollar bills to cross the Mississippi River and place his money on bets at the greyhound race track. I politely laughed and returned the money and to this day I have no idea how he a gentleman from England knew there was a track over on the Arkansas side of the river and still don’t know if he was serious or not. I was too young to be allowed to go to the races anyway. Great memories. Been a huge fan since the Close to the Edge tour!
Fantastic Story, have seen Mr Wakeman multiple times a true living Class Act, been to Memphis once before hope to get back there again. Peace...
Rick has a true jaw dropping breadth of musical talent, what a guy!
Ricks stories during his live shows are fantastic. He and Jon’s tour was one if the best. Their banter was fabulous.
The keyboard maestro and wizard performs brilliantly as ever. 😎😻💙🇬🇧👍
Good Ol' Rick growing old (and me to) long may he live..
And we're Grumpy too 🎅🏻🫵🏻
What a joy to see and hear Rick on any occasion. He is a true genius.
There is nothing quite like the highly endearing Wakeman trill.
I have admired those gifted hands and mind for years.😁🎹🎹🎶
Play On⛄
So thankful to have lived to hear Rick play so many times. Always inspires flights of imagination and good memories. Thanks, Rick! Happy Christmas to you too!!!!
Rick is the man
Practically Immortal ‼️
Wow ! ...what a wonderful talent Mr Wakeman.
Tremendous musicianship - so great seeing Rick playing beautifully!
Rick's Christmas album is much like this...great renditions of Holiday favorites and a couple originals. And yes, the Rick Beato interview is priceless!!!
RW - the grumpy cape-wearing LEGEND! 🎹
Doesn’t seem grumpy.
It’s in reference to his long stint on Grumpy Old Men…
We look forward to this video every year.
Saw Rick Adam and Mollie in Croydon beginning of December. A fantastic Christmas show. Also a must every year. We love you Rick.
Rick's finest 2 seconds had to be on celebrity Mastermind, featuring Ian Lavender from Dad's Army.
As with every contestant, as soon as Ian parked his rump on the black chair, John Humphries asked "Your name is"
Before he could answer Rick called out "Don't tell him, Pike!"
Genius.
Ok then.... I'm gonna need a thorough explanation stateside....🇺🇸 as I'm only getting visions of Captain Pike on Star Trek‼️
@@warrenbutterfield4208 It’s a reference to a classic scene in a UK sitcom called Dad’s Army which is set in wartime Britain telling the story of the old men too old to go to war who were called up as Home Guards in their own towns. In this episode the Germans had landed and had captured the Home Guard and were holding them prisoners in the Church Hall. The German commander said he was making a list of names so that they could all be punished once they had invaded. He turned to a very young Ian Lavender (who was playing a character called Private Pike) and demanded his name for the list. Before he had the chance of answering the bumptious platoon leader, Captain Mainwaring, shouted defiantly “Don’t tell him Pike!” Naturally the German commander simply said “ah Pike” and wrote his name in the book.
The comic timing was impeccable and it was so funny it became a line that has passed into sitcom legend.
@@warrenbutterfield4208 It's very much a British thing. It's from a sitcom about the home guard during WWII - the home guard consisted of volunteers who were too old (or young in Private Frank Pike's case) to enlist.
In this episode they had apprehended a group of German submariners and the the German Captain was making a list of transgressors for when Germany was victorious.
Pike sang a song about Hitler and was told he was going on the list.
The German Captain said "Your name shall also go on the list, what is it."
The English captain says "Don't tell him, Pike" giving his name away and getting a huge laugh from the studio.
Ask TH-cam for "Don't tell him, Pike" and you will find the original clip and Rick's version.
I don't know how amusing you will find it, but I hopw it cleared things up
@@pauldavies1710 Thanks for that. Happy New Year 🙂
@@Ralstro Happy New Year to you. Much funnier to watch. Just put ‘don’t tell him Pike” into TH-cam search and you will find the clip.
I had been wondering if Rick had a Christmas LP, glad I found this, as only Rick can play!
Loved my Raleigh Chopper! My parents truly loved me. Love anything with Rick. He’s a true global treasure. Brilliant show!
Need to know how to be in the audience for this for Christmas 2025!
Keyboard genius. Thank you.
And on that day was put in motion the means of our redemption.
And the way was opened up as a highway to our God.
And a child was born to us and to us a Son was given,
For through the young and blessed Mary came the greatest gift of all.
Phil Keaggy and John Sferra
Merry Christmas to all how watch this video and listen to Rick Wakeman's amazing playing. This was such a treat!
Phil Keaggy as well ‼️
🎸🎸🎸
The master at work.
Haooy Xmas to you all. 🎅🎄
Had the pleasure of seeing the maestro live in concert in Ipswich during December, and it was simply wonderful
Last show in US .... Novembers 3rd 2024 fittingly Sunday night in The Century Old Scottish Rite Theater...Collingswood, NJ
Pleasure of Al Stewart opening.... they hadn't worked together for 52? Years‼️
It was awesome......
Amazing Rick Wakeman .
As always extremely talented and friendly, Merry Christmas from Chile Rick!
Saw Rick perform in Folkestone in November, probably the 4th show I've seen of his and he's still brilliant 😊
Rick was probably Britain's first Super Hero with his Super Trooper Cape which was certainly No Disgrace. I could go on but I am going to listen instead.
My first Rick show was King Arthur on Ice and the most recent was three weeks ago. I've seen him dozens of times and he never disappoints. Totally agree about the Rick Beato interview. What a star. How about a knighthood?
Great idea but Rick's American.
Mr beato i mean, not Mr wakeman who 's from London.
Wonderful work as ever from a genius
Thanks Rick
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎹🎶
That was fun, thanks from 🇺🇸
Love the atmosphere here ❤❤❤
Charming....and that's why Rick makes it a regular staple on his calendar.....
Capes Forever‼️
Thank you Rick, Simon and team for another Christmas special. And finally this year, after retiring, I got round to renovating and converting our early 1900's upright piano. Partly inspired by Rick's playing and being my wife's family heirloom. Wished I could play it.
No better time to learn. Even after 30 minutes a day, you'll be surprised after a few months
Fabulous, this and Wallace and Gromit made me a merry liddle Christmas! Thank you GHR.
Thanks Simon et Al. I missed last week so it was great to find it on you tube.
THE BEST!
Inspired Interpretations, thankyou Rick
Eleonore Rigby spirit is Christmas.
Love it, long long time fan - choked me up at 15:42 doing silent night.
🎸🎸🎸 yup ‼️
I needed this. Thank you.
A great show! From another Old Azurian. We must have been at WHSB at the same time. ❤❤❤
Really enjoyed this.
Yes
Very subtle, a gold star, and Merry Xmas to you and Yours, with love from Yorkshire🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
will always remember Rick in Paris in 1975 with long blond hair and long dress suit....
Brilliant
Happy holidays.
Happy Christmas.
🙏 how wonderful
19:51 excellent discussion on drinks
Some familiar faces here. Welcome to the drive-time gang. It's been a while. Happy New Year!
Felíz Navidad y próspero Año Nuevo. Que Jesús os bendiga.
Keyboard King 🎹
Respect to Rick,i never really liked his music (even tho his talent is awsome) ..but i loved his book "grumpy ol rock star" and he has a great talent at just talking and i could listen to him all day
rick is always good value (unless he talks about man city) :o) merry christmas everybody
"Don't Look Back in Anger" mate😏😏😏
22:37 Rick Couldn't find the music for this? And then from memory, proceeds to knock out a rendition that is second to none.
Especially as ~Mary's Boy Child~ is not my favourite song.
It must be the red cape🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Surely God given talent handed to few so we can really truly appreciate it I reckon.....
Is rick a musician or comedian, he's both.
Rick wakeman has to be the funniest musician on the planet.
Oh'' i'll add ozzy osbourne to the list.
17:13 says the clown in jeans and t shirt
'As soon as he starts playing, stick an advert on' . . . Well done, how to alienate your dwindling audiences! : )
Krikey‼️
I kept getting adverts cutting into the playing too. Very annoying. It would have been better to have proper sections with adverts in between.
28:03 Rick interjects some great humour and the host comes across as a pompous asshole. I do thank him for hosting this special though
I do believe it may be time to lose the cape.
He'll take it to the Grave and you'll find a chemical to Cope......
Rick is great! Shame about the Mayo. How this guy has a public career is beyond me, total charisma bypass. Does he ever smile?
Then by all means:
"HOLD THE MAYO‼️"
@@warrenbutterfield4208 yeah, but they don't. Such a sour face, and no talent whatsoever.
He’s almost as good as Mrs. Mills.
A plastic tree pretending to be real is fake. Nothing wrong with good quality artificial trees
good, but, I can't stand those electric piano sounds..where the Yamaha etc?
I wish Rick would use less notes. The twiddly bits just annoy me. It’s a pity because he’s been such an important part of my formative life. But these days he just seems to be an old bloke who wants to impress everyone with how many notes he can fit into a bar.
You’re goofy
I love the extra notes. It adds a nice touch and a bit of creatively.
What a genius!
Putting on weight, Mr Wakeman!!
Actually dropped a bit even after surgery that cut into his walks.
