Sandstorm is pretty much our second national anthem now. For real, when Finland turned 100 years and we were celebrating the new years eve, we had Darude play Sandstorm in the middle of Helsinki. That's how iconic that song has become over the years.
>be me >year 2000 >11 years old, first time visiting the UK from north America >driving through the countryside, radio on, listening to a heavy, no vocals, dance track >only used to hearing electronic music at 2am by listening to club radio broadcasts at the lowest volume (doors open all times house policy) >know that dj's rarely ID tracks on the radio, so decide to savour the moment in time, coming to terms I may never hear that song again for the rest of my life >MFW not only was it overplayed in stadiums, but it was catapulted to meme status and is the answer for EVERY ID REQUEST
@@yangerjamir0906I believe he's referring to the troll replies. When someone asked what song it is in the video comment, a troll would reply, "Sandstorm by Darude".
My favorite Symphonic Metal band, Nightwish, is from Finland. (The original members. None of the current singer they're going through) You guys do metal well.
Ismo I have been following you for a few years now and you are one of my favorite comedians!! I am now currently visiting Finland as part of a trip around Europe and it’s a great country. One of the first references to Finland I had before coming here was your comedy 😊 keep being awesome! Kiitos!!
I actually remember where I was the first time I heard Sandstorm. Was at a club in the US and when it hit my friend and I were so amazed that we risked our lives climbing up to the DJ booth on the second floor to ask him what the track was.
Don't forget one of the greatest classical composers in Jean Sibelius. For me, the greatest of the ones I know, to come out of a Scandinavian country and I'm saying this as a Dane who loves many Danish composers. But Sibelius was just in a class of his own. Trivia: Did you know Sibelius saw musical notes in colour? His favourite was green, which represents F major. His fireplace was green just because of that. And that was the fireplace where he burned his 8th Symphony, as he didn't think it could compare to his 7th.
I've always liked terasbetoni, turisas and korpiklanni, I'm 75% Finnish my great grandparents moved here to the US here in the the early 1900s/late 1800s. Ismo would have a huge audience up here in northeastern Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin, and Western UP of Michigan, lots and lots of Finnish people or mostly Finnish people up here, a good chunk of us even pronounce sauna the correct way, my grandparents spoke finn-glish so I know some Finnish words myself
Wow, you’re more Finnish than I am! That’s intriguing! My mother is Finnish and I live in Finland; my dad is from Wisconsin (no Finnish heritage). So I am 50% Finnish; but you are 75%!!
@anna-helenahamann yeah my mom is 100% and my dad is half, my moms side is from Jalasjärvi, and my dad's side was from somewhere up by the Swedish border my great grandma used to bike into Sweden to go to school but was Finnish, and her husband Pekka's family were fisherman on lake Ladoga (karelian pre winter war) he used to bootleg vodka into Finland across that lake from Russia, a couple of Russians tried stopping him and he stabbed them with his puuko and I guess the the Russias were looking for him so he came to the US here
What a story! Perhaps one day if you are able to visit Finland, you can visit some of the places (those that are a part of modern-day Finland) that your family came from! It's a beautiful country with so many lakes and forests; so much beauty to give and see. ❤️🇫🇮
