The issue is mass immigration. People being replaced by foreigners. Complete foreigners, unvetted crowding out people from their jobs, homes and services. Many times killing them in car accidents or crime. Foreigners being given free money and jobs while regular taxpaying Americans get nothing.
They’re working on the housing- they e done a bunch of stuff, but it will take time. They’ve got to break the price fixing by the grocery stores, they’ve been slow on that.
If you're looking for price and rent controls, I'm not sure the NDP will get into power anytime soon, but they'd probably be your best bet. If you think the Canadian right-wing hates the Liberals though, they'd be swallowing their tongues over an NDP government. Personally if I were you I'd probably move to a more affordable area and improve my skillset for a better job.
Yeah and thats the issue, they're not addressing price fixing on groceries and rent. Not nearly fast enough, and it has never appeared to be a priority.
@figeon It's not affordability they're talking about. As far as I can see the Conservatives have no plans at all to do anything about affordability. The "extreme" they're talking about is the crazy conspiracy theories, "the government is using chemicals from planes for mind control! They're injecting us with microchips to track our every move! They're forcing sex change operations on children! They want to convert us all to Islam and implement Sharia law!" That's what right-wing extremists keep spouting. It's nothing to do with affordability. Right wing politicians don't care about that. Their job is to protect the rich from evil socialist schemes that siphon away their wealth to help the poor and middle class.

The Canadian situation seems very similar to the Australian scene at the moment. Both commonwealth countries. Both navigating a housing crisis and increased costs of living. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Justin's government doubling our debt in less than a decade. Or the fact that they brought in more people than our housing supply can handle. 😉
Corporate greed is one thing but government greed and incompetence is a greater threat. The government pays it's select corporate friends and consultants with middle class taxpayer income and accomplishes nothing. Government incompetence, Canada literally doubled its debt while it's economy shrank. Combined with mass immigration. Trudeau care about foreigners over his own people. Canada isn't the world. We can't save the world. Trudeau thinks otherwise.
The problem as I see it. He is quite obviously more concerned about how HE looks on a global stage rather than how WE ARE FALLING APART UNDER HIS REGIME.
we can't fully blame him (Trudeau) given how much power our provinces have in their own affairs. Ontario has had a conservative leader (ford) for YEARS and he laughed at the housing crisis when asked about it earlier this week and told people to get off their a** and work. 🙄

Colbert did not ask Trudeau any real questions about his approach in Canada. This is simple grand standing to gain some sort of recognition as a world leader.
That literally all he cares about. I have zero faith he gives a single shit about Canada and just wants to be known as the world is most progressive leader.

What's funny about Trudeau's situation is that it was entirely avoidable had he kept his 2015 campaign promise to enact electoral reform. It will be very interesting to watch their election next year to see if he'll even be opposition leader, or if the NDP will retake it's place as the left's party in Canadian politics.

That interview seemed so awkward to me, but maybe that's me projecting. It felt like Trudeau forgot he was at a comedy show and just kinda said what he wanted. As a Canadian, I wish this interview hadn't happened, it feels embarrassing how passive-aggressive the PM was acting and he really struggled to adhere to the show’s format. I feel like you need to know enough about the government the politician your guest is a part of to prevent being steamrolled like it seemed Stephen was. I guess if anything good came of that interview, it’s that the apparent lack of chemistry between the two will hopefully mean Trudeau won’t be back any time soon. I’d love if there was more coverage of Canada in late-night comedy, but I think this shows how important it is to have some familiarity with a topic when you’re speaking to a politician, because I don’t generally notice American politicians just coming to say whatever they want, and I think that’s because they know the audience and the host has context that wasn’t here today. This isn’t the first late-night show I’ve seen talk about Canada without the necessary context, but I wish it would be the last. I won’t lie, there are definitely some moments in that interview that I’m pleased with from Trudeau, but generally speaking, I don't think this interview was of the same quality as most of the others on this show.
I had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with his people years ago for my job. That was long before he became deeply unpopular. This must be the only audience who would cheer for him.
I don't like how Polievre is being portrayed as Canada's trump. They're really nothing alike, and Canada's conservative party is much more moderate than the US' republican party. I think we do need a change. Polievre can give us some traction in the areas we need, even if we fall back in others. But in Canadian politics, we usually keep one person in office for 10 years at a time until we get tired of them and get the next person in. It really has little to do with left vs right
If you knew nothing of Trudeau, but you hear someone who starts a conversation off by gloating about widespread free trade with all nations among some nonsensical global economic organization like G-7 (or G-8, G-20, whatever) would immediately be indicative of someone who hasn't the slightest idea of national/political economy, and should be far, far away from the shaping of economic policy.

How is this not considered Foreign Interference? The Canada Elections Act contains measures to address potential foreign interference threats to federal elections. This includes section 282.4, which makes it an offence for certain persons, including an individual who is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, a foreign corporation or entity, a foreign political party, a foreign government or its agent, to, during an election period, unduly influence an elector to vote or refrain from voting, or to vote or refrain from voting for a particular candidate or registered party, at a federal election.

I pay 60$ a day for child care. Wheres this 10$ stuff he's been shouting about for years?
It's only for very low income families... It's handouts that Canada can't afford - hand outs for the Liberal voter base to try to keep their votes. A lot of day cares won't sign up for the $10 program because the government doesn't even give the business enough reimbursement to cover their costs. It's not a good program.

Childcare, if I'm right, is under the province's jurisdiction. Not federal.

Worth noting that unlike our American neighbors, not just anyone can be prime minister. You actually have to be leading one of the major political parties (btw we have more than just 2) for a while. So you pretty much have to have political experience. On top of that prime ministers are able to stay in power as long as the public sees them worthy of it. If they do a good job, keep them in. If they don't do a good job, we vote them out at any time with a vote of non confidence. Simple. Not like the US with the hard term limits and anyone with money can be voted into office. and impeachment in the USA btw is never really doing anything because politics are so divided in the US that its virtually impossible to remove a sitting president.
Stay positive and hopeful. The good WILL prevail. 😏

This man brags of universal health care as if it’s actually working here. So many hospitals in major cities are experiencing overcrowding and are unable to treat patients. Most Canadians that were born in this country have no doctor. They go to walk in clinics and wait hours for check ups. People with serious medical issues are being diagnosed late due to the months it takes for an appointment to get tested. The late diagnosis means less chance of survival, or returning to a full state of health.
This country has changed so much as I’ve grown up here. The prime minister I once admired is now the reason so many Canadian families are struggling. He cares more about his image on the world stage than the people struggling at home.

Trudeau is not for Canadians
Oh, the Liberal dump of Canada itself…

What people?
I don't like how Polievre is being portrayed as Canada's trump. They're really nothing alike, and Canada's conservative party is much more moderate than the US' republican party. Now, I did vote for Trudeau in the last election because the alternative was much worse at the time. However, it is time for a change. Trudeau has done a lot of damage in some pretty important areas. I think we do need a change. Polievre can give us some traction in the areas we need, even if we fall back in others. But in Canadian politics, we usually keep one person in office for 10 years at a time until we get tired of them and get the next person in. It really has little to do with left vs right
Ur an idiot for voting Trudeau in… you’re part of the problem with the situation we’re in now.

We don't dislike other countries, we dislike our own country getting ruined. I mean immigrant Canadians themselves are lamenting the decision to immigrate here. Canada is scamming them too. People's children immigrated here for school and now live under bridges and starving. How is this not considered Foreign Interference?
The Canada Elections Act contains measures to address potential foreign interference threats to federal elections.
