The issue is mass immigration. People being replaced by foreigners. Complete foreigners, unvetted crowding out people from their jobs, homes and services. The "extreme" they're talking about is the crazy conspiracy theories, "the government is using chemicals from planes for mind control! They're injecting us with microchips to track our every move! They're forcing sex change operations on children! They want to convert us all to Islam and implement Sharia law!" That's what right-wing extremists keep spouting. It's nothing to do with affordability. Right wing politicians don't care about that. The Canadian situation seems very similar to the Australian scene at the moment. Both commonwealth countries. Both navigating a housing crisis and increased costs of living.
The truth, as I see it, is that profiteering from big supermarket chains, social media companies, real estate, big pharma and more has run unchecked for decades. That’s where regulation can play a strong part.

Yes, we don't have enough doctors, yes, grocery prices have gone up, but why do you feel that those things have been caused by policies of the current government? It sounds like you're just using correlation (these things have happened during the time that Trudeau also happened to be the leader) and assuming that there's a causal link, but you don't have any reason to believe there's an actual cause and effect here. In fact there's plenty of evidence it's not cause and effect - like the fact that inflation and cost of living increases are happening globally, not just in Canada, so it's pretty unlikely that Canada's PM is causing this worldwide phenomenon. We're just a little country. As for doctor shortages, I think there are a lot of reasons that fewer people are going into family medicine and that there is not as much physician time available for patients as needed, but again, I don't think there is some government policy you can point to and say it's to blame... ?

I’m not disabled enough for federal benefits though, because dynamic disabilities basically don’t count. I think last time I checked, I can only make like $12,000/year before I would get my disability cut off. So even working part-time doesn’t make any sense because the amount of physio and whatnot I’d need wouldn’t make it worth it, and you only get extended medical when you work full-time.

"Slightly more positive on the macro level" = Canadians have gotten significantly poorer per capita over the last ten years.
Our GDP is isn't a holistic representation of our economic health. Rather it is the result of a massive increase in both permanent residents and temporary foreign workers whom, through no fault of their own, have stretched the limits of our housing supply, job market, health care system, and civic infrastructure extremely thin. Canadians have historically been uniquely pro-immigration. Our land mass is huge and our population is comparatively small. But to invite a half a million permanent residents and another half a million non-permanent residents into the country year over year without making the proper investments is how you till nativism.

Worth noting that unlike our American neighbors, not just anyone can be prime minister. You actually have to be leading one of the major political parties (btw we have more than just 2) for a while. So you pretty much have to have political experience. On top of that prime ministers are able to stay in power as long as the public sees them worthy of it. If they do a good job, keep them in. If they don't do a good job, we vote them out at any time with a vote of non confidence. Simple. Not like the US with the hard term limits and anyone with money can be voted into office. and impeachment in the USA btw is never really doing anything because politics are so divided in the US that its virtually impossible to remove a sitting president.

This man brags of universal health care as if it’s actually working here. So many hospitals in major cities are experiencing overcrowding and are unable to treat patients. Most Canadians that were born in this country have no doctor. They go to walk in clinics and wait hours for check ups. People with serious medical issues are being diagnosed late due to the months it takes for an appointment to get tested. The late diagnosis means less chance of survival, or returning to a full state of health.
This country has changed so much as I’ve grown up here. The prime minister I once admired is now the reason so many Canadian families are struggling. He cares more about his image on the world stage than the people struggling at home.

That interview seemed so awkward to me, but maybe that's me projecting. It felt like Trudeau forgot he was at a comedy show and just kinda said what he wanted. As a Canadian, I wish this interview hadn't happened, it feels embarrassing how passive-aggressive the PM was acting and he really struggled to adhere to the show’s format. I feel like you need to know enough about the government the politician your guest is a part of to prevent being steamrolled like it seemed Stephen was. I guess if anything good came of that interview, it’s that the apparent lack of chemistry between the two will hopefully mean Trudeau won’t be back any time soon. I’d love if there was more coverage of Canada in late-night comedy, but I think this shows how important it is to have some familiarity with a topic when you’re speaking to a politician, because I don’t generally notice American politicians just coming to say whatever they want, and I think that’s because they know the audience and the host has context that wasn’t here today. This isn’t the first late-night show I’ve seen talk about Canada without the necessary context, but I wish it would be the last. I won’t lie, there are definitely some moments in that interview that I’m pleased with from Trudeau, but generally speaking, I don't think this interview was of the same quality as most of the others on this show.

I don't like how Polievre is being portrayed as Canada's trump. They're really nothing alike, and Canada's conservative party is much more moderate than the US' republican party. Now, I did vote for Trudeau in the last election because the alternative was much worse at the time. However, it is time for a change. Trudeau has done a lot of damage in some pretty important areas. I think we do need a change. Polievre can give us some traction in the areas we need, even if we fall back in others. But in Canadian politics, we usually keep one person in office for 10 years at a time until we get tired of them and get the next person in. It really has little to do with left vs right
