    Hello from Norway. We had these problems you do now, which made me a late adopter of EV, but now there is a fastcharger almost every 10 miles and fastcharger park evert 25 miles (still bad in the North, but getting better and better). So I think you will see it getting better too. Now, commuting in the US and Norway are two different worlds, I know, but I charge 90-97% of the times at home. And for those who do have long commute’s, they usually have a destination charger when they arrive at their workplace. That’s actually one of the big things they are fighting for now, destination chargers. When we reach our destination, either it’s work, vacation in a city, the beach, you usually are staying there for some hours. As for time lost: Hahahhaa, I’m a family father, there is no change 😂😂 I have to stop for 15 min here and 45 minutes here and there anyway on a long trip, and I just charge when I stop, even if it’s for just 10 min. I have almost have none range anxiety. I did actually have more range anxiety in my old Nissan Micra K11 which had about 370miles of range on its 10 gallon gas tank, bless that car, but it mostly came from my self: “maybe I can save 10 cent on the next station” 😂😂

  • @gordboyko769

    What happens as more people get EV’s and when you pull up to the charging station and there’s a line up of other EV’a waiting to charge . Especially on a long weekend etc. That will be additional wasted time.. and frustrating if you are wanting to get somewhere . I think the EV’s are great for local run around town vehicles. But they are a long ways off from becoming a trouble free road trip vehicle.

    • @gordboyko769
      @gordboyko769 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MBergyman agreed . I realize the infrastructure will only get better, as will the vehicles and batteries with increased range . What I’m saying is it has a long ways to go before EV’s are a viable option to replace gas powered vehicles. I know for myself, I live in a rural area and tow a lot of trailers in remote locations. There is just no way one of these electric F150’s could do what a gas powered one does for me. But for say a contractor that mostly makes short trips in and around the city . They are a great option as they are now.

    Congratulations on your new truck sir, some advice, if you plan on frequenting Electrify America chargers then you should get the $4 a month Pass upgrade to save 10¢ per KWh, it will quickly pay for itself. Regarding range anxiety, in my personal experience as an owner of a 100 mile range EV, those feelings will subdue after a few weeks of driving once you learn what your vehicle can do. You might need to do a little planning for long trips, but for daily commutes I never feel distressed.

    I love the power these electric vehicles have, and what it cost to recharge the battery is less than gas vehicles. Doing further research on the cost to replace the battery and life expectancy surprised me. From what I have read is that the life of the battery is 7-9 years and cost $30,000-$40,000. I know not everyone will keep a truck that long, but there are a lot of trucks over ten years old on the road.

    My question is, if a hotel only has two charging spots, does it mean it can accommodate two overnight guests on any given night? That's the biggest variable in my opinion when you're planning a trip to an unknown tourist spot. You may have the chargers, but if people before you are leaving their EVs there overnight, you're out of luck.

  • @ryansheard8092
    @ryansheard8092 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video! Still not sold on EVs as primary vehicles simply due to the inconvenience of time to charge. The range itself isn't a big deal but the time to get that range is where I pause. That said, it's also a statement on our "go, go, go" society when 45 minutes at a fuel station is unacceptable. But, that's how it is. I'd say once technology gets to cut current charge times in 1/2 it's a serious consideration for many.

    • @mixdupjoe
      @mixdupjoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how often you take long road trips. If you are able to charge at home, you'll never stop at another gas station on your daily commute. The only time you'll need to stop and charge at a public charger is on a long road trip
      If you're going on 200+ mile trips more than 5 or 6 times a year, maybe wait on EVs. If you take one a year, then it shouldn't be a factor

    • @ryansheard8092
      @ryansheard8092 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mixdupjoe that's why I said primary vehicles. Most households have 2 vehicles. Having an EV as a commuter vehicle isn't a bad idea.

But for the rest of us living in reality, driving roughly 300 miles or 5 hours without the need to charge, then stopping for 45 minutes for a bathroom break and food, and a 80% charge for $12 seems like a huge positive in my book. I’m on the west coast, there’s a charger every 500 feet so not worried about range anxiety so much lol. And for the 99.9% of the time I’m driving my daily 30 mile commute to work round trip it becomes genius. I have a big bronco and a Silverado EV reservation. The bronco was my first ford ever the Silverado EV will be my first Chevy ever. It’s an awesome time to be a car enthusiast.

    What would you have been charged for leaving a fully charged vehicle hooked up and occupying a space so that no other EV could use it? What if another customer had pulled up while you were slow-charging and sleeping ( over 90% your charge rate slows dramatically to hours), preventing them from powering up? How is this addressed?

      @@pstoneking3418 forgive my ignorance when it comes to EV charging (as I know nothing about it), but if the Lightning starts charging around 15% and goes to 80% at both chargers, should the cost be somewhat similar? I understand energy pricing will be different based on region (similar to gas prices), but I wouldn't expect one to be 3x higher. I am completely new to EVs and charging so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

    ABC. Of EV [ means always be charging } as much as you like the lightning and power and it’s torque I don’t think that it for most f150 owners who travel on long distances and don’t want the anxiety wondering if they are going to make it to the next charging station and how many truck in line in front of you waiting to charge there ev that is to much to down time for most people also the down side to that you show us in a previous video when your Mach E had to be flat towed not to mention all the and down time wasted charging the lightning for long periods on time limitations that make it less desirable then the f150 powerboost which has no limitation’s because you can always find a gas station it can do everything that the lightning can do go twice as far with a600 mile fuel range there is minimal downtime fueling up I will stay with my 2021 f150 limited powerboost I think that the right fit for most f150 owners think that the grid needs time to handle all these rv that they are trying to flood the market with these ev are best suited for around town not for long haul the price of charging might be cheep for now but once more people start using the charging station the more costly it will become charging your ev

  • @TheParkingLotGarage
    @TheParkingLotGarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I noticed on the screen you happened to charged up 80 kWh. Given that you got 2.2 miles per kWh, that means it cost $37 to travel about 176 miles. That same distance in a stock f150 ecoboost (assuming 19 mpg, which I would say is conservative for the highway), would cost you $45 for the same distance. So only you save about 20% in “fuel”/electricity cost with the Lightning. For me, that’s just not worth the hassle of waiting the extra time at the charging station, planning out trips, and the limited range. That’s not even considering what happens to the range of you need to tow for long distances. That’s also not considering when the cost of gas comes back down to normal - then the savings could easily be 0, or even more expensive than gas (on a road trip).

    This just proves that battery vehicles are not designed for long distance traveling. You spend more time charging than driving to the destination. A gas vehicle takes about 5 minutes to fill up and you are on your way for another 200-300 miles before another fill-up.

      I would never consider an EV truck if it's main purpose was to drive long distance and pay at charge stations. That same 200 miles of local driving charging at home will cost me $12 @ $.15/kwh. And where an EV range increases in city driving, fuel vehicles range decreases. With myself though even cheaper as my home runs on solar as will my lightning when I charge it off my 13 kw solar array. So it definitely depends on where you plan on using your truck and how you charge it.

The base pro lightning vs a base xl crew cab 4wd 5.0 or 3.5 with pro power is already 7-9k cheaper WITHOUT the additional fed tax credit of $7,500 the lightning still gets. Plus any state or local incentives you can qualify for. And a fully optioned lariat ice 5.0 is within 4k of a fully loaded lariat lightning. Ad the tax credit and the lightning wins again. 👍🏻
